Adversity, trouble, suffering in our lives tends to lead us toward feeling cast down, heavy hearted, and anxious. That is the normal human way. But Moses prayed, "Lord, teach us to rejoice in every day of adversity! Help me to have a happy heart when my days are the most trying!" This is a theme throughout the scripture. In today's discussion we will introduce this truth from Psalm 90, setting up the follow-on discussion for next time.

Could thoughts about God really be considered prayer? If so, then we need to consider how to turn our thoughts to God as often as we can so that we can be true to Jesus' instruction to "pray always" (Luke 21:36).

What is the most important thing we can do today? Arguably, the answer is "Pray." Arguably because of course to love is the fulfilling of the law, but to love God and to love others well we need a genuine and dynamic life of prayer. How then can we become more prayerful people? How can we learn to pray without ceasing? We must learn how our very thoughts of God are prayers offered.
