We have discussed the need for constant course correction in our journey of holiness, and in this portion of the psalm we get a look at how we can fix our attention on our point of reference, the Word of God, and how we stay locked in even when the world is clawing and clamoring for our attention.

When you begin to think of all the obstacles, the detractors, and the troubles which come at us in life! The list is quite long, and every implement of distraction, discouragement, and disfunction which the enemy of our soul can assail us with, make no mistake, he will launch it. Thank God for the continuous and unfailing source of scripture! The answer to all the afflictions, antagonisms, and angers of our life is “the word upon which (God) has caused (us) to hope” (v.49)! The psalm teaches us that our way must be defined by obedience and conformity to the word of God.

Dirfitng along is easy, but costly. Diligent pursuit is hard but rewarding. Those on the journey of the Devout Heart will find that constant course correction is a necessity in life. We all will experience some drift, but to be true to God we learn the power of confession and repentance.

Those in the Way of the Devout Heart do not view God's word as a past time, nor as a chore to be completed, nor as an obligation, but as their necessary food for the soul, as the staff of strength for the journey, as the shield against the enemy, and as the counsel against the soul's tendency to be cast down.
