As you listen to this meditation, prayerfully consider and ask God: What do You want me to know about darkness and light in my life, in the life of the communities/groups I engage with, and in the world? Is there anything that I need to let go of and release to You? What do You want to give me to replace what I have released?

The scriptures say it so well, “For the sense and reason of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace.” If we focus our thoughts, asking God’s Spirit to fill our minds, guide our thoughts, we will live in peace, no matter our circumstances.

In the quiet of this meditation time, let these words bring the truth of God’s heart for us into our minds, reminding us to be as merciful and kind to others as He is toward us. Mercy dispels fear and kindness soothes the soul. May we overflow with acts of compassion for others today.

There are people we admire. They face the difficult situations in their lives with a sense of purpose, yet are pliable to God’s greater purpose. They have an outlook of hope when we doubt and they show us how to live with God’s faith. Doing the right thing at the right time is wisdom learned, and wisdom applied.

God wants us to know Him. Believing He is good, takes our trust to a new level. A Father whose character of pure love and goodness, is a Father we can love and trust. As Paul wrote, “we pray that by his power all the pleasures of goodness and all works inspired by faith would fill you completely.”

Our attitudes direct our thoughts which direct our actions. When we think about how God cares for us, that He takes care of us, we are able to change our attitudes and actions. As you listen today, let God’s care for you be the focus of your thoughts and you will find a gentle and growing strength in you for the day.

The wisdom of the Psalm 37 captures the essence of understanding the relationship of trusting God and living our purpose: "Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way, you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!" It is only in letting go of what you want that you receive the direction, wisdom and strength to fulfill your purpose.

Lord, keep us from bitterness. Others seem to have fewer problems, more money and fewer problems. We envy the ease of their lives and resent the weight of our problems. We have judged them and doing so, have turned the judgement on ourselves. Forgive us, Father. We will let go of the lies that tell us we're losing what we do not yet have and that You don't care. We will trust in only You.

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul wrote, Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real. Controlling our thoughts is key to our perception of God's kingdom. We don't control its existence, only our experience of it. Focusing on what is true, what is real, what is authentic positions us to see, really see God at work in a world that sees only the physical realm. There is more to living, more to life and we're invited to join God in living to the fullness of our purpose.

Envy is a comparison of ourselves with others. It is destructive and divisive, poisoning our soul as we believe we deserve what others have. So many of our heartaches are rooted in ourselves and our needs. Choosing to trust God with the details of our desires, results in the most excellent outcome.
