Deathcast

In the early 1990s young girls began to go missing in the cities of Belgium. Though they received media attention at first, as time went on, the televisions and newspapers soon went silent. Police began to receive tips that a convicted sex offender named Marc Dutroux was responsible and sadly, did nothing. The more information that came in, the less it seemed the police forces were interested in investigating. When two eight year old girls, went missing, a reluctant watch was placed on the unemployed man's six properties and ten homes. Eventually after many attempts were made to derail the investigation, Marc Dutroux and four accomplices would be arrested, and two of an untold number of victims would be saved. What came next shook Belgium to it's very core, and changed their society forever as more than 300,000 citizens took to the streets to protest the obvious coverup and corruption that had allowed one of their countries worst serial killers to operate

It began in the summer of 1982 with the bodies of five young women being found in Washington States Green River. All of them had one thing in common, each worked as a prostitute on Seattle's SeaTac Strip. Over the ensuing months, more young women would go missing, many more. Police who had dealt with Ted Bundy only a few short years before hand, were quick to form a task force to track the faceless killer down. What none of them knew at the time however, was that this particular killer was unlike any they had seen before. A monster that lived among them, and was a part of the community, who existed solely to hunt and slay the young women that worked their streets and would later claim that the murder of women was his career.

This week we look further into the investigation, and into how Gary Ridgway was eventually caught and convicted for the murder of 49 young women.

From the late 1960s until 1980 a monster stalked the streets of Bergen County, New Jersey and Times Square in New York. He was a cunning, unassuming man who worked as a computer programer by day. Liked by his coworkers and employer, Richard Cottingham held a dark secret; he was a vicious, violent sexual predator who targeted teens and young women, savagely assaulting them before defiling their bodies. Richard's crimes escalated over the years, until he would eventually be dubbed 'The Torso Killer.' This week we look into his crimes before delving into the man who committed them.

In 1985, the burned, animal ravaged body of a young man was found inside of a Revolutionary War Era smokehouse on an estate in Stoney Point, NY. There were few clues as to the victims identity, until the coroner removed the leather S&M mask that covered the bodies face. What followed was a series of sensationalistic stories, all centered around cocaine, an art dealer, his entourage, and brutal sex games.

From the Vault: November, 26 2001, state police in Kresgeville, Pa are called to a home on H.Y.T. Road by a neighbor over a domestic dispute. What they found was far different however, as the occupants of the house were known drug dealers and addicts, and the scene inside was something that would haunt the investigators for years to come.
