Today is December 1
May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
Take a moment and quiet yourself. Take a deep breath. Welcome God’s presence. And say, “Come Holy Spirit.”
Today’s reading is from the gospel of Luke, chapter 9.
18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”
19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”
20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
As we enter into prayer today, think for a moment about YOUR answer to this question… Not the proper Sunday school answer, or the answer that your pastor might say… But what’s your answer, in real life? Who do you say Jesus is?
Why do you think Jesus asked his disciples this question… What do the crowds think about me? Who do they say that I am? What do you think he’s trying to get them to think about? We know a couple of things to be true… first Jesus knows exactly who he is. Second the disciples should know exactly who he is! But they often seem confused. Listen to the text again, and wonder why Jesus is having this conversation with them.
Peter is always a great one to raise His hand and answer the question first! You are God’s Messiah, he calls out! Imagine you’re in the room with disciples and Jesus. Imagine this conversation. And imagine what happens when Peter speaks this truth. As we enter time of prayer, ask God to reveal more of himself to you… more of who HE is…
