According to the American Psychological Association, “chronic stress is linked to the six leading causes of death.”
Stress has been implicated in heart issues, inflammation, obesity, mental illness and more.
Most people think of stress as caused by things like work, traffic, tense relationships…

Magnesium is the body’s “master mineral” powerful over 300 critical reactions, including detoxification... fat metabolism... energy... stress...EVEN digestion is influenced by the presence of magnesium.
If there’s ONE MINERAL you should be worried about not getting enough of... it’s MAGNESIUM.
That’s why I’m so excited to tell you about a new magnesium product called, Magnesium Breakthrough. It’s the ULTIMATE magnesium supplement, easily the best I’ve ever seen or experienced... with all 7 forms of this mineral.

Not one to shy away from controversy, Dr. Tommy Wood has worked with some of the highest performing athletes in the world. From Formula One to Ironmans, what are some of the key takeaways Tommy had on behavior change from that experience? You would be surprised at how little free time these people have. I also get the chance to pick Tommy's brain on the problems with nutritional epidemiology, genetics, and how to evaluate nascent supplements and compounds where little research may exist.
Who is Tommy Wood?
Tommy Wood is a Research Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the University of Washington Division of Neonatology. The majority of his academic work has focused on developing therapies for brain injury in newborn infants, but also includes adult neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases, as well as nutritional approaches to sports performance.
Tommy received an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge before obtaining his medical degree from the University of Oxford. After working as a doctor in central London, he moved to Norway for his PhD work, and then to the University of Washington as a postdoc. Alongside his academic training, Tommy has coached athletes in a dozen sports, from weekend warriors to Olympians and world champions. He is the outgoing President of the Physicians for Ancestral Health society, a director of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, and sits on the scientific advisory board of Hintsa Performance, which includes researching performance optimization strategies for F1 drivers.
Tommy’s current research interests include the physiological and metabolic responses to brain injury and their long-term effects on brain health, as well as developing easily-accessible methods with which to track human health, performance, and longevity. He and his wife Elizabeth share their home with two energetic (and goofy) boxers, and in his spare time, Tommy can usually be found cooking, hiking, reading, or lifting something heavy.

What brands of blue light blockers do I recommend?
BluBlox is definitely a go-to.
The CEO Andy Mant on the show before where we got into a really deep dive on blue light. If you get any amount of blue light in your glasses, no matter if it’s 3%, 10%, it disrupts melatonin production. So Andy has created blue light blockers that hold up to the highest standards. And in fact, you can see he’s tested it versus other brands and that they always come out on top.
Quality matters.
If you head over to blublox.com and plug in the code “DS15”, you’re going to get 15% off your order.
One of my favorite tools for cognitive enhancement, especially after long plan rides, is Blue Cannatine. The delivery mechanism is unique (buccle troche). It is especially effective for me on improving short-term memory, focus, and verbal fluency.
It’s the closest thing that I found to NZT and I think you guys should try it out. Get yours at troscriptions.com. Plug in the code BOOMER for 10% OFF your “Limitless” experience.
Full disclosure: I am involved with the company (I like the product that much).

You don’t have time for that 45 minute jog.
You need something fast, efficient, and leaves you wanting more.
My favorite tool for this is the CAR.O.L. She is a life-changing bike, that provides you all the endurance you need in two 20 second bursts.
Yes, you read that right.
That’s 40 seconds of max-effort, including the warm-up and cool-downs, you get a kick-ass workout in 8 minutes and 40 seconds.
The CAR.O.L is a resistance bike powered by artificial intelligence, which personalizes and optimizes the resistance, so you hit your maximum intensity levels and maximize glycogen depletion every single time.
The proof is really in the pudding. CAR.O.L’s effectiveness was independently verified by the American Council on Exercise. I take the CAR.O.L for a spin regularly and she always kicks my ass.
If you have limited time and want a kick ass workout, which basically everyone that listens to this show does, use the code DECODING150 for a big discount, head over to CarolfitAI.com to secure yours.
I’ve been fascinated by blood flow restriction training for a very long time. B Strong made great innovations on this technology.
I use it almost every day: high reps, low number of sets, a few exercises. In 20 minutes, I have a fantastic workout which is triggering an anabolic response.
If you want to get your B Strong blood flow restriction device, head on over to https://bstrong.training/ and use the code BOOMER, and you’re going to get yourself 10% off.

Patrick McKeown, bestselling author of The Oxygen Advantage joins for round 2 on everything you need to know about breath work. Patrick and I delve into CO2 tolerance, freediving, capnography, and the specific protocols for training. He talks about devices and technologies that can be used to track your breathing.
Patrick’s book, The Oxygen Advantage (published in fourteen languages) combines the simulation of high-altitude training and specifically-formulated exercises which empower readers to improve their corporate and exercise performance. For the first time, individuals are afforded a reliable and accurate means to measure their progress using the Body Oxygen Level Test, enabling them to address poor breathing habits; understand in simple terms how oxygen is released to working muscles, and to practice breath hold exercises that naturally increase aerobic and anaerobic capacity. A summary of the science can be found at http://oxygenadvantage.com/science/
To date, Patrick has worked with some of the top athletes in the world across a variety of sports including tennis, cycling, weight lifting, American Football, MMA and track and field.
A TEDx Speaker, Patrick’s work has touched the lives of thousands and more worldwide.

If you check out this episode in video, you’ll see that my tongue is blue.
