Their book,  Healing Begins with Us: Breaking the Cycle of Trauma and Abuse and Rebuilding the Sibling Bond (HeartWisdom LLC, April 5, 2022), shares their inspiring and hopeful story of healing from their painful upbringing.

They are sharing their story now to help heal the shame that they have carried as survivors of trauma, and to contribute to healing the hearts of others who have struggled in similar ways. To them healing is not about changing, or becoming someone "different" or "better"---it's about becoming more fully who they are: a spark of The Divine, connected to All, here to assist each other as our souls explore this existence and learn to love and live in peace.

Audrey Byrd Art is a creative outlet and source of expression for Audrey to show her love for the human body outside of her professional career. She is a family physician in her second year of residency and loves the parallels between art and medicine.Born of the COVID-19 pandemic, she began making art and participating in local exhibitions and markets to share her passions with others. 

Her bold colors and textures act to accentuate the femininity that is often so harshly judged and censored by the public eye. Her main goal as a painter is to help people fall in love with their beauty and recognize their divinity. Audrey uses all reclaimed + repurposed canvases, frames, and miscellaneous oddities to create her pieces, to be as sustainable and unique as possible. She manipulates her supplies to create one-of-a-kind paintings and sculptures that leave viewers thinking “how did she do that?” and inspire them to try creating their own masterpieces.

Deborah J. Hunter is a Tulsa, Oklahoma poet, spoken word artist, playwright, essayist, actor, teaching artist, workshop facilitator and social justice activist. A descendant of 1921 Greenwood Massacre survivors, she was honored to receive a 2020 Greenwood Art Project (Bloomberg) grant for her original play, Porches, set during the years following that Tulsa tragedy and staged during the 2021 Centennial remembrance. She was presented with a Woman of the Year Pinnacle Award in 2018 and was a 2013 Oklahoma Poet Laureate finalist.


Her poetry has been published in literary journals, magazines, anthologies and other printed media. She is mostly known for her soul-filled spoken word performances. She has had a long career teaching children, youth and adults fun techniques to find inspiration and sharpen skills for writing poetry. A staunch and longtime advocate and educator on issues pertaining to mental health and homelessness, Hunter’s chapter, “Violence and the Homeless Population: Perpetrators or Victims?” appears in the academic series, Violence and Abuse in Society: Understanding a Global Crisis.

Bio

I’m a Libra who finds inspiration through music and art. I truly believe that music sets the tone and have curated an eclectic mix from the Talking Heads to Arcade Fire. You’ll find cool artwork throughout the salon from my many adventures. Every picture has a story. 

 
I love hearing about your fur babies for I bring my pup Casey to the salon. I also have Milo "the fat cat"  and Maisey "the baby" kitten who happily stay home. You’ll also hear me mention my two sisters and 3 nephews from time to time. Family rocks!
 

Certified as a Reiki Master and Embeautyment Practitioner, I’m a huge self care advocate. I practice yoga, meditation and tarot cards. I believe in gratitude lists, mindfulness, acupuncture, massage and will talk to you about all the things. 

 
I feel truly grateful to be my own boss and do what I love every day. I love  inspiring my clients and bringing out their inner beauty. I incorporate Reiki into all of my services. I like to call it hair therapy ;)
