Deep Reactions with Catalyst

This is my NYE set (though I played it on NYE Eve, since I'm having party on NYE).

Enjoy!

Since it's Christmas season, I thought it fitting to make this is an all-gospel-house set.

There's a chat applet on the home page of Dogglounge.com and during live sets, many folks come & chat with the live DJ. The founder of Dogglounge & my time-slot partner on the station were both there, so for those "old friends" I played tunes from several "old friends" of Dogglounge.

I hope you enjoy installment number 83 of Deep Reactions with Catalyst.

Here in Boston the weather is headed into Winter. It's the long wait until the joy of spring arrives, so the music selection feels a bit less beach-y, and a bit more wintry. We’ll be listening to some terrific stuff from Atjazz, Osunlade, Ross Couch, Dennis Ferrer, JT Donaldson, and I’ll close with a bit more downtempo track called Thora Vukk from Robag Wruhme.

I hope you enjoy installment number 82 of Deep Reactions with Catalyst.

Night-time set at Autosubconscious, ending about an hour before sunrise.

I love the ending track on this. There rest of it was fairly random & reactive to what people seemed to be enjoying when dancing.

Yeah, Daylight Saving Time has ended for the year. Winter is approaching. The sun is setting at 4 freakin' 30 in the afternoon. This is waaaaay "too early" for the sunlight to go away.

I like this set. There's clearly an arc from deep house thru straight-up house to tech house. If I had a couple of transitions to do over (shortening the fade), I'd be happy to have those back. But, this worked pretty well, I think.

(Re-) Recording of set played live at The Reliquarium in Providence, RI on 2018 Nov 03 (see http://www.thereliquarium.com).

An after-party set; it was late, but the place was still bumpin', so it called for all-techno all the time. I love playing this stuff. Sadly, I hadn't inserted a USB stick into the DJM to record the set; but I had the playlist history from Rekordbox, so I recorded the set using the same tunes (with 1-2 changes).

I didn't have a real pre-determined audio theme for this set; it's just a bunch of tunes that felt right.

I wanted this set to have a little more funk than normal; so most (not all) tracks have a nice groove to them. It’s not fully soul/funk, but “funky house”.

I had no real centering for the song selection here, other than just how each one felt. Set title comes from the fact that - although it's fall here in New England - the sun time is still "lasting" nicely enough into the evening to make me happy. ;-)
