This week on 'Has It Aged Well?' we finally discuss our first Guru Dutt film. It's the romantic comedy 'Mr. & Mrs. '55' directed by Guru Dutt and written by Abrar Alvi. Joining Abbas for this episode is perhaps the most prolific chronicler of Hindi cinema - writer, film historian and documentary filmmaker Nasreen Munni Kabir. Topics discussed include Guru Dutt and his coterie of frequent collaborators Abrar Alvi, Johnny Walker etc., The difficult and confused gender politics of the film, Madhubala's run as the vivacious leading lady in the 50's, how the 'commerce vs. art' debate was seen by the filmmakers of the 50s, why Guru Dutt's 'tragic' films are more celebrated than a light hearted one like Mr. & Mrs. 55 and a lot more.
