Turkey has expelled 75 foreign Christian missionaries
Alliance Defending Freedom hosted a religious liberty panel last Thursday in Poland. The panel brought awareness to Turkey’s persecution of Christians.
The number of Christians in Turkey has dwindled from 20% to 0.2% of the population over the last century. In recent years, the country has expelled at least 75 foreign Christian workers.
Dr. Lidia Rieder with ADF said, “We see Turkish authorities specifically targeting foreign Christians and their families and using immigration regulations to ban them from speaking about their faith. By deliberately targeting Christians with de facto bans, the government is actively stifling the Christian faith.”
Psalm 14:4 asks, “Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD?”
14 Americans died in Israeli/Hamas conflict
On Saturday, Hamas launched a massive surprise attack on Israel. The Palestinian Islamic group also took between 100 and 150 hostages.
Israel responded with deadly airstrikes, displacing over 100,000 people and threatening a “complete siege” of the Gaza Strip.
The Israel Defense Forces' Army Radio reports 1,000 people have died in Israel, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health reports 900 people have died in Gaza.
Fourteen Americans have died in the conflict, and Americans are among the hostages held by Hamas.
Trump: Look closely at the Biden-Iran-Hamas connection
The Wall Street Journal reports that Iranian security officials backed the Hamas attack on Israel.
This comes after the U.S. unfroze $6 billion in Iranian funds in a U.S.-Iran prisoner swap last month.
At the time, former President Trump warned, “Can you believe … Joe Biden is giving $6 Billion to the terrorist regime in Iran? That money [could] be used for terrorism all over the Middle East, and, indeed, the World.”
The U.S. State Department says the funds have not been fully transferred to Iran. However, other Republican presidential candidates like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are also criticizing Biden’s $6 billion deal as a catalyst for the Hamas attack.
Americans tire of funding Ukrainian weapons
Speaking of military funding, more and more Americans are growing skeptical of U.S. weapons support for Ukraine.
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found that only 41% of respondents agreed Washington “should provide weapons to Ukraine.” Thirty-five percent disagreed, and the rest were unsure. Support for sending weapons to Ukraine is down among both Republicans and Democrats.
The U.S. has sent $44 billion in support to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country last year.
Defense Dept. pays $1.8 million over COVID-shot mandates
Last Tuesday, the U.S. Defense Department agreed to a $1.8 million settlement in a religious liberty lawsuit over COVID-shot mandates.
A group of Navy Seals along with other military members sued the department for violating their religious freedom by mandating COVID shots during the pandemic.
Mat Staver and Liberty Counsel helped represent the military personnel. Staver said, “The military COVID shot mandate is dead. Our heroic service members can no longer be forced to take this experimental jab that conflicts with their religious convictions.”
Mainline Protestant pastors more liberal than congregations
A recent study by the Public Religion Research Institute found that mainline Protestant pastors are more likely to identify as liberal than their congregants.
The survey covered denominations like the United Methodist Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the American Baptist Churches USA, the Presbyterian Church USA, and the Episcopal Church.
