Delayed Replay episodes

  • 11 - Jungle Cruise
Silence the Jurassic Park theme song, as this is about something from a different park. I wouldn’t be able to feature the song anyway for copyright reasons. That’s how copyright works when it comes to podcasts, right? I’m still not 100% sure. Anyway, it’s Jungle Cruise, not to be confused with Julee Cruise. Here with me to review it is Dylan Green, who has co-hosted multiple podcasts over at Decorative Vegetable, including Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 podcast, Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast, and a movie trilogy podcast called Triple Play. Guess you could call this episode Dylan Replay? Delayed Triple Replay? Dylanland? IDK. Just come along for the ride, and stay green, I guess.
    Show Notes:
3:55 - Speaking of anagrams and Disneyland, “Snide Dylan” is an anagram of “Disneyland.” Suspicious…
17:20 - The quote was actually about Jaws: The Revenge and said by Michael Cane: "Somebody said, 'Have you ever seen Jaws 4?' I said, 'No. But I've seen the house it bought for my mum. It's fantastic!” Sourced at Independent.ie here.
20:50 - My McGregor post from August 24, 2017: “Mayweather vs McGregor will be in AMC Theaters this weekend? Didn't realize the Kenobi movie was coming out so soon.”
30:24 - James Newton Howard actually worked on 2/3 of the trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises being the exception. Close enough.
33:55 - Here’s that episode of The Blue Box Podcast Dylan mentioned. If you just wanna hear the Trust Your Doctor segment, it’s at 3:26:57.
36:00 - Dwayne Johnson’s Star Trek: Voyager episode (“Tsunkatse”) aired February 9, 2000. His first acting credit is when he played his dad Rocky Johnson on That ‘70s Show episode “That Wrestling Show,” which aired February 7, 1999. Wow. Almost exactly a year apart. Wild.
39:00 - Koyaanisqatsi info for anyone curious.
43:10 - IPC episode on The Emperor’s New Groove.
    43:25 - Empire on Ice
50:00 - Turns out Jungle Juice an improvised mix of liquor. Wouldn’t it be something if our thoughts on this movie were improvised?

  • 10 - Tenet
Movie episode ten. Naturally, Tenet had to be the one for this episode. Guesting on this episode is another Channel 1138 podcaster: Ben Hart the Star Wars Guy! He’s the founder of the Star Wars Underworld, one of hosts of the Intergalactic Peace Coalition podcast, and does social media stuff for the entertainment news site Culture Slate! (I’ve been helping out with that too, and I feel like I haven’t been mentioning it enough here, come to think of it.) Maybe this episode could’ve been called Ben 10, but then people might’ve mixed it up with the Cartoon Network show. Here’s our review of Tenet, the Christopher Nolan movie that came out last weekend. Listen to us trying to wrap our minds around this whirlwind of a movie, and how we felt about certain risky and confusing choices that were made!

  • 9 - F9

F9. What a title. Maybe in this instance, the “F” stands for “family,” because they like throwing that word around a lot in these movies. Speaking of family, my cousin Leslie joined me for this review of the film. We talk about John Cena’s role, the ridiculous spectacles, a possible crossover that may be happening, among other things. We recorded this on Michelle Rodriguez’s birthday and are releasing it on Vin Diesel’s birthday. Give it a listen! Here’s that Michelle Rodriguez interview Leslie mentioned. • Video Game Special - Fast & Furious Crossroads
You’ve probably never heard of this game. It’s fine if you haven’t. Not all movie tie-in games are bad, but this one was just very…not good. Anyway, it’s Fast & Furious Crossroads, a video game that came out last May and takes place before F9. Fellow Channel 1138 podcaster Jeffery White joined me in this discussion of the shortcomings of this game. Also, it turned out that we recorded this on National Video Game Day (July 8)! And of course, there are jokes along the way!
Here’s that YouTube video I alluded to toward the end: This Is What a “Second-Person” Video Game Would Look Like

  • Comic Book Special - The Walking Dead Ending + Negan Lives
This episode has spoilers. Like, for real. But I’ve included time stamps in the show notes so that anyone afraid of spoilers can navigate around them. As my friend Andres Serrano suggested, we had a fun discussion about The Walking Dead #193, which would’ve been a perfect ending had it not been for the three issues that came after. We only spent a few minutes talking about those. They’re that bad. We also learned about the new one-shot Negan Lives while recording this, so you’ll also hear a segment of me talking about that!
    Time Stamps:
6:22-6:35 - Paraphrased Creed quote from The Office (US) series finale.
    10:00 - Issue 193 spoilers begin .
11:45-14:10 - Side tangent on original Star Wars comic series by Marvel (without spoilers).
15:55-16:10 - Spoilers for Gears of War 3
33:10-34:45- Spoilers for Star Trek: Legacy of Spock.
41:20-42:00 - Spoilers for the end of New 52’s Animal Man.
42:00-43:00 - Spoilers for the end of Red Dead Redemption (2010).
43:00-44:25 - Side tangents on poker and Fresh Guacamole short.
    44:30-48:00 - Issues 194, 195, and 196.
48:20-50:20 - Story of the time I met Robert Kirkman. More details on the photos in this Facebook album.
50:20-52:35 - Our reactions to the Negan Lives news.
    52:35-1:08:10- Negan Lives segment
1:08:10 onward - Final thoughts (without spoilers) and scores.

  • 8 - Free Guy
This episode is FREE*! It’s opening weekend for Free Guy, and I talked with my friend Hayley about this fun video game movie about an NPC who becomes sentient! How does it compare to other media with similar premises? What shout-outs did we spot? What did we think of the Fortnite dances? Listen to this review by Delayed Replay!
*Just like all the other episodes.

  • 7 - No Time to Die
It’s the end of an era. (For the Daniel Craig movies, not for this podcast.) On this review episode for No Time to Die, the James Bond movie released in April, I was joined by Joe Coffey (whose birthday is today)! He and his family have a James Bond podcast called Bond with Coffey. Together for this crossover of sorts, he and I talk about possible crossovers every now and then as we dissect No Time to Die and share our opinions on various aspects of the film!
    Misc. Notes:
If you like James Bond and Doctor Who, you might enjoy the Doctor Who series 12 two-parter “Spyfall” (with the Thirteenth Doctor). Or even the Big Finish audio Fever Island from the Fourth Doctor Adventures range.

  • 6 - The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run
I didn’t say this within the episode, but the title of the movie sucks. The first film was called The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie, and The SpongeBob Movie became the umbrella title for the next two films. Plus, it was so hard for me distinguish between Sponge Out of Water and Sponge on the Run. Anyway, this movie came out toward the end of May. With me on this episode is my friend Cris, bassist of the band Heirgloom! (Guess you could call them band geeks. Heh.) Listen to us talk about what we liked and disliked about Sponge on the Run. Plus, some cartoon-related tangents!

  • Video Game Special - Star Wars Episode I: Racer Remastered
This is a different type of episode. Since it’s a video game and not a movie, it’s not included in the numbering, but it’s still canon. Never mind that there was no build-up for this episode. SURPRISE! It’s Aspyr’s remastered version of Star Wars Episode I: Racer, a topic suggested by my guest on this episode, Jeffery White from a couple other podcasts on Channel 1138 called Hype Function and Maniacal Melodies. This remaster was released for the Nintendo Switch and PS4 on May 12. We’ve played the game and talk about the updates and talk about a few other Star Wars-related topics.
    Show Notes:
-This episode actually was recorded on the 60th anniversary of Psycho. And the Racer cover image really did end up being the 1,138th of the photos listed on my phone. Weird.
    It’s Ridge Racer!

  • 5 - Mulan (2020)
People say, “No remakes!” Then they see them in theaters, as if to say, “Yes remakes!” Some want the same, some want different. It can be a losing battle. Much like the battles that me and my friend Chris (Starrapter) recall in this review of the live-action Mulan remake from Disney, which was released worldwide last March. This is pretty much Chris’ first Mulan movie, whereas I’ve seen Disney’s animated film (and its sequel that I just realized I did not mention at all). How do these factors affect our views regarding this newer movie? Find out on this episode, which I have no intention to ever remake!
