This episode is a Doozie. Lori and I go back in time when our father chose to have an affair. Not only did this affect our lives, but sadly, our mother’s as well. We continue our search for clues to unravel our mom’s mind. In this episode we talk about her teen years, how she met our father, their marriage, and the early years of parenting two sets of twins. Did any of that affect her dementia?     

Some of the questions we will discuss are: Why was our mother attracted to our father? Did our Dad pressured Mom to quit college and marry him?  What did Mother’s quiet, upper-class family think of our loud, bad-boy (but lovable) Dad? Were they were truly happy in the first years?  How did having twins affect them? How did having two sets of twins affect them? What was our early family life like?

In this podcast we talk about the “Silent Generation”  The generation in which our parents grew up.  We believe we have to sort through the dynamics of our parent’s  generation to attempt to decipher our parents mind set in our attempt to understand the decisions they made in their lives.  We will also look at the family my mom grew up in to see if there are any clues to unraveling our mom’s mind and if they still effect her today.

Donna and Lori share feelings they had after  learning their mother was diagnosed with dementia. In this episode, get to know these twin sisters as they share family background and dynamics as well as brief history of their mother.   

Welcome to Dementia Calling a new podcast where two daughters talk about their journey with their mother’s dementia.

When Shari was diagnosed with dementia, her daughters, Lori and Donna found themselves in a new situation. No one is prepared for this to happen in their family, it just happens and the children have no choice but to navigate the outcome.

In early stages, one daughter and her family moved in with her (and father). The other daughter had to take over all financial dealings. Fortunately, they had the support of their brothers.

After a year, dementia advanced and Shari declined, so help was brought into the house. Only a few months after that, Shari declined to a state at which she needed an Assisted Living facility. Thankfully it was close to her house. Each step came with their own difficulties and education.

Lori and Donna want to share their journey with you and hope you will join them through this process. They also, would like to hear from others going through this. They hope this podcast serves as a  support group - learning from each other and providing suggestions, hints, and hacks of better dealing with dementia.
