Sam and Deepa discuss protests across the world. In the United States, demonstrations against police brutality were spurred by the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police and in Hong Kong by the increasingly totalitarian reach of Beijing. Although these are difficult subjects to talk about in objective terms, we hope you may find our perspectives helpful in making sense of recent events. Hollowell and discuss Church politics and the role of religion in the contemporary political landscape.

We're joined by two guests this week: Putnam County Sheriff Scott Stockton and recent Georgetown graduate Cheryl Liu! We begin with an interview with the Sheriff where we discuss his role, the biggest problems he sees in Putnam County, and his opinions on prisons, civil forfeitures, and Facebook hashtags. Then, we chat current events with Cheryl, including recent DHS shakeups and the latest polling in the 2020 democratic field.

This week's episode features an hourlong discussion with DePauw University President Dr. Mark McCoy. We begin by unpacking the conclusion of the Mueller investigation and discuss its ramifications. Next, we talk about the politics of being a university president: Was the selection process “political”? How does one appease myriad constituencies? What is the best approach to communicating controversial decisions? The conversation then moves to free speech on campus as we discuss Trump’s recent executive order on conservative speech. We conclude with a conversation on Dr. McCoy’s policy advocacy and why he chooses to speak out on political issues that impact DePauw students.

We’re joined this week by DePauw student Sam Heichelbech. We begin by discussing the tragic Christchurch shooting and New Zealand’s political response to it. We then discuss the grounding of Boeing 737 aircraft and why the FAA may have too many regulatory ties. A relevant issue to college students, our current events conversation concludes with discussion of the recent college admissions scandal. In the second half, we debate and discuss a number of hot-button policy issues from a recent national debate tournament.
