FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The OPEC+ alliance of oil-exporting countries decided Wednesday to sharply cut production to support sagging oil prices, a move that could deal the struggling global economy another blow and raise politically sensitive pump prices for U.S. drivers just ahead of key national elections.

Energy ministers cut production by a larger-than-expected 2 million barrels per day starting in November after gathering for their first face-to-face meeting at the Vienna headquarters of the OPEC oil cartel since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group said the decision was based on the “uncertainty that surrounds the global economic and oil market outlooks.” Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman stressed the group’s stated role as a guardian of stable energy markets.

“We are here to stay as a moderating force, to bring about stability,” he told reporters. - AP News

Billy Eichner is getting the box office results of his movie Bros and although the film is underperforming, he’s “proud” of the work he did on the big screen.

“Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold-out theatre playing Bros in LA,” he tweeted. “The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end, and some were wiping away tears as they walked out. Really. I am VERY proud of this movie.”

Despite glowing reviews for the Judd Apatow-produced film, Bros has not been a hit at the box office and is estimated to only make $4.8M during its opening weekend, half of what Universal was estimating. Rolling Stone already has BROS on the list of the best comedies of the 21st century. What’s also true is that at one point a theater chain called Universal and said they were pulling the trailer because of the gay content. (Uni convinced them not to). America, yeah, etc etc.

That’s just the world we live in, unfortunately. Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros. And that’s disappointing but it is what it is.

Apple’s vice president of procurement, Tony Blevins, has left the company after a TikTok video showed him making jokes about women at a car show.

An Apple representative confirmed the departure to CNBC, saying “Tony is leaving Apple.”

The departure was spurred by a TikTok video posted in September, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news.

In the video reviewed by CNBC, Blevins is getting out of an expensive Mercedes Benz and he is asked what he does for a living by Daniel Mac, who has a channel centered around asking people in expensive cars questions.

In the video, Blevins jokes that he buys “rich cars, plays golf, and fondles big-breasted women. But I take weekends and major holidays off.” The joke appears to be a reference to a similar quote in the movie “Arthur.”

It was viewed 1.3 million times, according to the TikTok page.

Blevins was a VP at Apple, which is a very senior role that reports to top executives. His main role was to negotiate with suppliers to keep the price Apple pays for computer parts down, according to a Wall Street Journal profile of Blevins from 2020. - CNBC

Anthony Bourdain struggled with fame and heartbreak in the days leading up to his death by suicide, a new book reveals.

In an unauthorized biography titled “Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdain,” journalist Charles Leerhsen includes text messages sent by the late celebrity chef in his final days that give insight into his mindset.

“I hate my fans, too. I hate being famous. I hate my job,” Bourdain wrote to his ex-wife Ottavia Busia-Bourdain, who had become one of his close confidants, per an excerpt published by the New York Times. “I am lonely and living in constant uncertainty.”

Leerhsen also notes in the book, due out Oct. 11, that Bourdain and his then-girlfriend of two years, Asia Argento, often had fits of jealousy. - Eileen Reslen

Beyond Meat COO arrested, accused of biting man’s nose after college football game

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A food company executive was arrested on a pair of charges after allegedly biting a man’s nose in a parking garage in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday night.

Doug Ramsey, 53, of Fayetteville, was arrested on September 17 on charges of terroristic threatening and third-degree battery. According to a preliminary report, the incident happened at a parking garage near Razorback Stadium following the University of Arkansas’ victory over Missouri State.

Just after 10 p.m. local time, an officer was dispatched to Gate 15 for “a disturbance that had previously occurred in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage (SDPG).” The responding officer found “two males with bloody faces” at the scene.
