Republican presidential candidates have another shot before the Iowa caucuses to convince GOP voters they are best suited for the nomination during Wednesday's fourth primary debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Roughly 40 days before the Iowa caucuses, former President Donald Trump is reserving most of his ire not for his GOP primary challengers but for President Joe Biden, his presumed 2024 rival should he secure the Republican nomination. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who this fall became the first speaker to be ousted from power in the middle of a congressional term, said Wednesday he will resign from office at the end of this month. A handful of former United States military leaders have argued in recent days that the Department of Defense has not adequately responded to a series of attacks against U.S. forces carried out by groups with Iran's backing.
