Desert Donkeys

Olympic Hockey Highs, Miami 11 Nights, Golf Pool Pain & Why We Need a Friday Tee Time | Desert Donkeys Ep. 24

In Episode 24 of Desert Donkeys, the hosts recap the end of the Olympics with a focus on the men’s hockey final, praising Team USA’s goalie performance and a player who lost teeth before scoring the game-winner, while noting Canada’s recent string of runner-up finishes. They react to Pat McAfee paying a post-win tab at Miami’s E11EVEN and discuss Miami travel stories and real estate around the venue. The conversation shifts to a struggling golf pool on a new platform, their picks, and a detailed round at a Phoenix-area CC featuring birdies, triple bogeys, brutal bunkers, and how hard golf is mentally without regular play—prompting plans to book a Friday round. They touch on Middle East attacks impacting Dubai, soccer and Champions League/World Cup timing, a Tony Gonzalez 50th birthday trip and LA lunches, disappointing NBA load management at a Suns-Celtics game, spring traffic, March Madness, and a possible guest to talk college hoops and betting.

Football Withdrawals, Degenerate Bets & Golf Is Back (Plus Soccer, NBA & Prediction Markets)

In week two of no football, the Desert Donkeys recap Super Bowl disappointment, reassess the halftime show, and spiral into a chaotic gambling confession featuring random college hoops, a Duke spread that pushes late, and even women’s basketball—offset briefly by a win on Awae in a golf pool. They break down the Pebble Beach finish, slow play pressure, Morikawa’s drought, and why Scottie Scheffler feels inevitable, then preview Riviera/Genesis with picks like Matthew Fitzpatrick and Jake Knapp and stories from playing Riviera with tournament-speed greens. The conversation hits learning golf fundamentals, how pros generate speed, and the frustration of starting late compared to young plus-handicap players. They touch on the NBA All-Star format, load management, and the Suns/OKC game where stars sat, debate shortening the NBA season, and shift to Premier League and Champions League excitement as knockout stages begin. They discuss prediction markets dwarfing Vegas Super Bowl handle, potential pop-culture expansion, and insider-information risks, then close with Vegas bankroll nostalgia, a high-limit blackjack heater to $106K, and the ongoing belief that a big comeback is coming—just in time for March Madness.
