Namaste. Oh, I'm so glad to be with you for another episode. And I know you're in for a treat today. I can just feel it. I've just been chatting with our guest today, and I know it's going to be awesome. So let me, without further ado, introduce you to Cindy James. She helps deeply caring people get unshakable confidence in themselves so that they can attract and master gobs of money and oodles of power without compromise and with the full support of the divine forces of creation. She's a former top corporate litigation attorney, but now she says that she is a practitioner of universal law as opposed to man-made law. And I love that. So first off, I want to just welcome you, Cindy, to live, love, engage.
    Cindy James
Thank you, Gloria. It is truly a privilege and an honor to be in this present moment with you and with everyone who is receiving this.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Well. I'm so intrigued by… I love meeting people, especially people who have sort of gone through a journey. And it looks like you have certainly been on a journey, having one lifetime, shall we say, as a corporate litigator. And now you're doing more energy healing work. You're also a podcaster, which I did not mention, but also you have your own podcast, and maybe we could chat about that a little bit later as well. But really being in this more of an energetic, spiritual type of type of space. So, I would love it if you would share with our listeners and also those watching on YouTube a little bit about that journey. What kind of led you to make that shift?
    Cindy James
I love talking about this. Thank you, Gloria. I remember being about seven years old and Godspell had just come out and my dad sung in the choir. I was born and raised Catholic, and I still feel that I'm Catholic. It's like it means universal. I'd be like Catholic girl. And I loved it was a progressive mass and it was guitar songs. And then Godspell came out. And then I heard “Day by Day” and right now I say I'm having a crown chasm. Like, when the energy is really big, I get all this tingles and it comes through and it just like so big right now. I love that I can talk like that with someone like you and with your listeners because I know they're very high vibrational, meaning just really deeply caring, open people. And so I started singing Day by Day to myself, and I felt amazing. And I had two younger brothers. My younger sister was a baby, so she didn't play in the neighborhood. And I just played with a lot of boys. And I mean, classic female role. I was the one sweeping up the fort or the treehouse or whatever it was. I still do like that. I inhabit my feminine ability to create space. And I remember sweeping the treehouse in our friend's backyard and singing Day by Day over and over again. And I think I got into some sort of ecstatic trance. A seven-year-old didn't know that. And I was like, this feels amazing. And I called my brothers and their friends. I'm like, come here, come here. I got a great new game. And I said, okay, this is how you do it. You just sing like the chorus of Day by Day, Dear Lord, three things I pray. And after, like, two or three rounds of it, my younger brother Stephen, who has since skedaddled to the other side because I don't believe in death, it's just a change in state. He goes like, this game is stupid. It's not fun. Hit the ball, or something like that. And I was, how are they not feeling this immense pleasure and freedom and joy? And so that's like little Cindy-Lou Who. And I loved singing to Mary in the May procession. And I loved Confirmation. Like, we are the light of the world. Yes. Like, what? I can receive the Holy Spirit and be able to talk to people and be a messenger of God in my maturity of love and light. I'm like I was so much about that, and my experience of the Catholicism was lovely, and it was also not lovely. And I think the Catholics, this is my demographic, but we have such longing, and then we just kill it. We're so close, and then it's dead. It's like it's like, you are the light of the world, but don't you get too full of yourself. God is real. But we have to worry. Faith. We worry. We worry. Worry means love. So that was always in my upbringing. I was blessed by God with a super great intellect. So I was top of my class and everything, and that's just the way it was, and including in law school and law review. And I was wined and dined by the big firms in Philadelphia, which is where I lived at the time. And I chose a firm that I thought, like, had a soul, because I was still always longing to know what is God? What are miracles? What is happiness, what is healing? And that's the kind of stuff I occupied my mind and my entertainment with. Movies about life after death, all that kind of stuff. And then when I became pregnant with my fourth of four children, it was the result of an energy healing, a free energy healing at my chiropractor's office. They're dear friends. I've now facilitated birthing and God children to them. And I was told that that baby was going to die in utero, that I should abort the baby at 22 weeks. And it was the only morally responsible thing to do. And Mother Bear, I'm wiping the jelly off my belly with this high risk perinataologist, and I'm saying, what is the medical opinion? I said, Am I in danger by bringing this baby to term? And he said no. But the only rational yeah, save your moral opinions for your people. And then it was going to Children's Hospital Philadelphia every week. It was ultrasounds, it was blood tests. And my now ex-husband, but my husband at the time was just asking, is there any way this can be a mistake? No. Major organ malformation and when he was born, put on antibiotics right away and at three days went down to Children's Hospital for major surgery. They said if he was to survive, he would need major organ reconstruction. And, I mean, my milk has just come in. I'm feverish. It's my fourth baby, so it's like a bloody massacre. I talk like this still and doing tests that still I think I need some healing about watching this baby go through. And this doctor came out and he said, I remember with a Russian accent, why is this baby here? And in tears. I mean, I'm crying in a wheelchair trying to nurse him. And I just said all of the things and he said, your baby's perfectly healthy. Take him home. And I decided at that moment that every gift that I was given of intellect, of speech, of research, of strength, of chutzpah, character, of rebellious and dignified and mother bear was going to be channeled in my free time to learning about how miracles really happen. And one of the lineages that I'm a practitioner of is pranic healing. And I love this quote. It goes something like this. Miracles are not fantastical events that operate outside the laws of nature. They utilize the hidden laws most people are unaware of. Isn't that beautiful? So there it is, like universal lawyer, practical lawyer. I'm grateful for that training every day. I always say there's a cast of characters that a jury and a judge needed to debate about.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Yeah.
    Cindy James
I recently listened to your True North podcast and I felt that so deeply in my soul and resonated on so many levels. And it's beautiful to have the opportunity to come to True North, which is how it is to live the most healthy, happy, harmonious, joyful life plus and then share that with others. To enjoy life and share it. That's just like the only game in town. And I do believe it's what's going to bring us. I mean, if the hope for humanity is that. It’s dissolving unnecessary suffering and these hidden laws which are just always there, whether you believe in it or not, and move forward....

Namaste. I am so glad to be with you today. And of course, it's one of my favorite types of episodes, is the ones where I get to interview interesting and insightful people. And today's guest is going to be no different. She, her name is Wendy Posillico and she is an athlete, a coach, a mother, an explorer, and the founder of Live Your June. And after becoming a professional golfer in her thirties and a single mother through IVF in her 40s, her life went in a completely new direction and she came to understand the importance of a flexible mindset. And now she's created a coaching program that she helps people with and she really learned to embrace transition and to trust her intuition in order to transform her life. And she wants to help you do the same. And I love this topic because I love talking about intuition. It's so important. So I can't wait to dive right in. But first off, I want to officially welcome you, Wendy, to live, love, engage.
    Wendy Posillico
Thank you, Gloria. I'm so happy to be here. I'm excited to talk to your listeners and yourself and get to share whatever I can help in the journey of whoever's listening. So I'm excited.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Sounds good. Sounds good. Well, I love to start off these interviews with getting a little bit of background on our guests and a little bit about your journey that got you where you are today. What was it that really prompted this new direction that I mentioned in the bio? So I wonder if you would share a little bit about that so we could get to know you a little bit more.
    Wendy Posillico
Yeah, listen, I've always been an athlete my entire life, and I come from a big Italian family from New York. I'm one of six in the middle, and sports was my thing. And I played in college, division one lacrosse. And once college was done, I struggled in school and I had my education degree, but I kind of got flat. So in my twenties, I couldn’t… I traveled, I got my Masters, I did all the right things. It looked good on paper. But at 28, I remember having, I was teaching in Harlem, I had my Masters, and just in my head was like, okay, is this it? Like, I just find a guy and get married and have kids. And so I think there was this flat moment in my late twenties that something was like, confused. I was in a very flat state. Like, this is my life. And really what happened was I was on a Spring break and I went to visit my parents down in Florida, where you are as well, and I live here now. And my dad would ask me to play golf, and I dabbled in golf, but I was like, all right, I'll go play. And that day I hit some golf balls in front of my dad's friends. They were like Joe, she's really good. And then I was playing on the course and someone else said something and my dad was like, why don't you give this a try? And the journey of in my thirties to play golf was a bizarre how I got there. But there was just like this inner pulling that had never really happened in my life or I never listened to it and it was just like pulling me in a direction and I had no clue. So that is really the transitions that the introduction talks about is like walking in that place that makes no sense to go there but something was pulling at me to do it.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Right. I was going to say you don't typically hear of people deciding to become a professional athlete in their 30s. That's usually what well, golfing of course people kind of keep going for a while but still it's still not exactly something that you take up then.
    Wendy Posillico
No, to even know… I said yes and I didn't even know. It's not like I had a coach. I didn't have a plan. But it is funny when you… I think that's a gift of mine now is to not only myself to walk that harder walk, but also to help people have the courage to take their walk or that step in a direction that seems so out of the ordinary and it can go in any direction. It's not like yes, I went to be a professional golf, but I'm just like people don't love their job and what is that thing? And people don't make that step because they don't know what that answer is. So most times you got to explore and that's really how I ventured in that direction as I started to say yes and explore and found the answers and the people I met on the journey if I didn't take the step I wouldn't have got the next step, you know?
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah, absolutely. What do you suppose made you say yes? Because I think a lot of times people are afraid to do that and they might have that little inkling but they're like I don't know, I'm probably not good enough or whatever. What do you think it was for you?
    Wendy Posillico
We all have the chatter, we all have that voice it's like I'm not good enough. We all have that voice saying it's too late, we have that voice, we're too old. And I even had it at 28. Like how do I have the right to take up this sport at my age? Not really playing it very much, but there is this other voice or this other instinct saying I left a lot on the table in my younger years as an athlete, even playing Division One lacrosse. And I just wanted to see what I was capable of. And I think I just listened like I never had before, not knowing that there was this yearning, like I knew I had something else in me. And I think we all have that voice. It's not just, the loud voice is that limited thinking, that scared voice, the fear. But then there's this other thing that if you just sit in silence or really shut off the noise, there's something else speaking. And I really encourage or I really help people find that space to hear that voice. And that's where I feel like if you are someone who's listening resonate with what I'm saying at any age, in any chapter of your life, just listen in and shut off the TV, shut off the phone and just have some space to see what just comes up out of you. Ask the question like, what am I supposed to be? Where am I going now? And just ask a question. And sometimes that instinct starts to speak. I don't know if it's like a boy. It depends. Everybody's different. It could be like and I think when we really explore a lot of my clients are in their 50s currently right now, that I have this group I've worked with for four years, and they're empty nesters and they're in this stage and they really do work. They have a great job, but there's something that they don't have the fire in their tummy. They're starting to want more. I can feel it. And it's so cool to watch because I feel like the jam when you actually can start to listen, it's like something nice in your gut that gives you a little more excitement for when you wake up in the day. You're more excited for doing the thing you're going after. And I can see it in them shifting. And I think that’s why… kids all do that all the time. So why are we stopping? It doesn't matter what age we are, we still should have that excitement.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah, I agree with you 100 percent. It's one of the reasons I started doing this podcast again, because I did do it back in 2015 for about maybe eight months or so, and then it was too much and I gave it up. But then when I was working on my book, I was like, I think I want to do the podcast again, but I'm going to do it differently this time. And it's been so much fun to do. And I think that's so great that you're helping people to realize that they can try something new if they're feeling called to do it. How do intentions fit into that? Because I know that that's something that I do a lot of times, is setting intentions.
    Wendy Posillico
Yeah, intentions. Well, I actually have we were just talking with my team about I have to refresh this Be Intentional challenge I made two years ago because I think it starts there. It starts with awareness and intention and with your listeners or anybody, even me. And this is work, by the way. Everything I talk about or teach or share, I do everything. Like I'm not different. And so the intention that I really work on with my clients or whoever I work with, it's like I start the day with intention....

Namaste. I am so glad to be with you again for another episode of Live Love Engage. And I really want to welcome all of you here, those of you who are listening on your favorite podcast platform and those of you watching on YouTube. I am looking forward to our conversation today with Gavin Frye, who has 40 years of experience as a licensed spiritual therapist and leadership mentor to entrepreneurs. And he also has a new book called The Real You - Leading your life from your authentic self. And this book is a comprehensive work that illuminates and makes accessible the universal path of the authentic self. And I know we were going to talk about something, but I think I'm definitely going to want to actually ask you a little bit about that, especially the universal path of that. That's raising my curiosity. So, first off, I want to officially welcome you, Gavin, to live, love, engage.
    Gavin Frye
Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here with you, Gloria.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Thank you. And I, well, not always, but I would say 90% to 95% of the time, I love to start off these interviews with asking our guests a little bit about their journey. And so you've been doing this type of work for quite a while, and I was curious about what prompted you to get down this path of being a spiritual therapist and leadership mentor.
    Gavin Frye
Well, it's quite a story. All of us have our own challenges and things that we have to reckon with in life, and mine has been a ride. So my career got catapulted into this profession of psychology when I was in my teens because I grew up with a sister who was a heroin addict for 17 years. And then my brother took it even further. He was five years older than me, and he became, he took on the law and he started doing burglary and then kidnapping, and then he became a white supremacist gang leader, and he killed a lot of black people.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Oh, my goodness. Wow.
    Gavin Frye
I'm riding the horses behind them. And it's just decimating to my family, my mom and dad, and to me. I mean, I just held on, honestly, Gloria, for dear life for six or seven years. But it catapulted me towards psychology because I needed to actually find a place where I could come into healing and I could come into understanding. And then after psychology, then the whole arena of spirituality and its central importance in human evolution and my healing showed up. So by the time I was 25, I started having very deep… I started to let go of the trauma that I'd carried and learned how to do that. And I also started to open up to my spirit inside and the way spiritual energy moved through me with compassion and love and wisdom. So that's why, even though what, I'm 67, I just turned 67. It's been 40 years, but by my mid twenties, I had found my love, my passion, which was to really work with people. I was drawn towards intimacy and how can relationships flourish. I was stunned by the divorce rate, and I just watched my own parents, and I watched people have challenges. And said why is a committed relationship so darn painful and difficult and often breaks? And I started to discover a lot of keys about that, which we can talk about today.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah, absolutely. Well, first off, well, happy birthday, number one, but also sorry to hear about the challenges with siblings. Are you the baby in the family, then?
    Gavin Frye
I'm the baby in the family, and I had to do all kinds of things in response to all of that. Of course, I wanted to be the good kid, and I didn't want to cause my parents anymore. All the fallout in the wake of that was part of my reckoning.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah, I resonate with that because that's pretty much my story as well. Not exactly the same type of things, but yeah, I have older brother and older sister, and they both were having a lot of trouble with mom in particular, and so I avoided that. Now, did your siblings, did your sister recover? If it's okay for me to ask.
    Gavin Frye
No, you can ask me anything. My sister actually came out. She came through it, which is not easy because she was a long term and an early addict, but she used Narcotics Anonymous, and then she turned towards Christianity. So she's in a church in Oregon and doing well. Now my brother, interestingly enough, after 15 years and being locked in solitary confinement, he was talking to a prison ministry volunteer, and he had a full blown religious conversion to Christ.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Oh, wow.
    Gavin Frye
That was real. I mean, he was as if all that other stuff, all those layers just dropped away. He became a model inmate. They let him out of prison. And then he went to work in this church, same church as my sister in Oregon. And he worked with the youth. And you can imagine he still had all his tattoos. He spoke. He was a powerful influence on their lives.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Yeah, I can imagine.
    Gavin Frye
He married. He was going to have kids. He was taking a nursing program, but he died suddenly in an automobile accident when he was, like, 40. But the arc of his life was quite dramatic. But he did find the promised land.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Well, that's good. I'm glad to hear that. I may want to talk with you more about this afterwards. Definitely some parallels in our lives here, but that's for another day. So I want to get back to I want to talk first a little bit about the book, and then we can talk a little bit more about maybe the intimate relationships, because I mentioned when I was introducing you that I was curious about how you refer to it as the universal path of the authentic self. So what do you mean by that? And maybe even why did you wind up writing the book as well?
    Gavin Frye
Yeah, I hear you. Well, what I mean by universal is that within each of us as humans, in my experience, underneath it all, our deepest nature is what I'm talking about is the terrain of the authentic self. And I could call it soul, I could call it divine. Lincoln called it the better angels of our nature. But that’s like, aside from whatever language, there's love, there there's wisdom, there's compassion. So the universal path is really akin to Joseph Campbell's the Hero's Journey.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Okay.
    Gavin Frye
What's amazing is, when we're born, if you see a six-month-old child, they are totally authentic. They can't not be authentic. So that's the first stage. It's like this immersion. But most of us encounter difficulties in trauma, and then we adapt, and we often adapt things that are to survive and protect ourselves. I call that the false self or the adapted self. And then we mistake that for who we are, and we lose touch with that deeper connection. So that's the second stage. The third stage is when you touch back into who you are, and you go, oh, my God, like I did at 25.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Right.
    Gavin Frye
And the rest of my life has been about getting more anchored there. The desire often is to serve from there, give to others. And so that's what's fueled my growth and my work. But I'm always stunned by… I'll have a client come in, and he says, I just want to tell you I've never had a spiritual experience. And I say, really? So I said, well, tell me about some of the richer experiences you've had. So they'll say, well, okay, well, I was in nature once, and there was this time where just I came out of the forest and something happened, and this energy descended on me, and it was like I was bigger than my body. And I said,...

    TRANSCRIPT
    Gloria Grace Rand
You. Namaste. I am Gloria Grace Rand, and so delighted to be with you for another edition of Live. Love. Engage. And I've got a lovely woman here today to talk to us about mentoring, but I'm going to give you a little bit more about her bio first. So Dr. Christine Van Horn is an author, a teacher, and speaker. She's been a certified emergency manager for 30 years and is now applying her emergency management experience to focus on character in society. And her goal is to help rebuild foundational values through mentorship. And her latest book, for those of you who are listening, you won't have the benefit of seeing it on the screen, but it is called Teach Your Children Timeless Truths in Uncertain Times. And before we got started with the podcast, I knew I wanted to be able to focus on, we were talking about what I was going to ask you about and about how you got on this journey. And I realized that I do want to talk a little bit about the book, even though I know we want to focus more on Mentorship for Business. But I would love to know a little bit about what even prompted you to write this book and why you are passionate about helping to rebuild foundational values.
    Christine Van Horn
All right, thank you. And first of all, it's wonderful to be on the show, so thank you so much, Gloria. And this is not my first book on character. I actually have two before that. I wrote a book for children, older children called Captain Character. But I have focused on character for quite a number of years, and I've just kind of looked around in society and seen where we are at and thought about how life was when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s, and there's a big difference. And the gap, I do believe, is character and lack thereof. Most of the things you see in society that are bad are due to a lack of character, so it kind of got me in that focus. But I really just kind of feel like the Lord's kind of pointed me in a direction that this is where I'm supposed to focus on in society. So I wrote Teach Your Children Timeless Truths in Uncertain Times, which is looking at character traits, life skills, and being an example in the lives of children. And those, I think, are three gap areas that I see in society today. That's kind of my focus.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Well, I appreciate you doing that because I agree there does seem to be especially with all of the not discourse of the, not disarray but just distress in how we communicate. I'll use that dis word. I'm trying to think of something here, but, yeah, there's just a lot of conflict and a lot of, my way or the highway, and there seems to be little room for compromise anymore, and that's disheartening. There we go. I got another dis word in there. So I wanted to talk about. Like I said, some of the things that you talk about in the book are not only good for kids, but they're also applicable for adults as well. And one of the things you talk about is one of the things that you're focused in on is mentorship. But for those people out there, they may be a little bit confused because I know sometimes I think even when I was first starting in my business, I wasn't exactly sure on what exactly is a mentor and how does that work, say, compared to, say, a coach or something like that. So can you talk about that a little bit?
    Christine Van Horn
Sure. Life coach and a mentor are very similar. So for people that I've been talking with, I say use whichever term you relate to the most. So I did not realize we needed coaches until about a decade or so ago, and I thought coaches were really just for baseball games and football and things like that. And then I realized, hey, I need a life coach. And so it's very similar. A mentor is someone who's been there before. So the person that they're mentoring is not starting off at the basics. It's starting off at a higher level where that mentor has been. So the person who is a mentor or a life coach, they're teaching out of their own experience. So you gain all of that benefit. And that's the beauty of having a mentor, somebody who has been there before, they've experienced it, and they can teach you what they know.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah. And hopefully save you from making some of the mistakes, probably, that they made early on. Which is one of the reasons I like to coach people as well, is because I have made those mistakes. And we all do as we're getting started in anything new. But if we can then pass those lessons on to other people, it's so important. So what are the timeless truths that you talk about in your book, and how does that actually apply to people in business?
    Christine Van Horn
So my timeless truths are considered character traits. So being able to guide others in my book, it's your children in character traits, and then the other is teaching them life skills. And I'll explain a little bit about what that is. And then the last thing is really being the example for them. Now, that applies to children. And in my book, I'm really talking about nothing as formal as like, a life coach. It's more like parents and grandparents teaching their children and grandchildren. So it's a little more informal. And I guess that's another difference between a coach and a mentor. But in business, it really still all applies. You can be mentoring or guiding people that you work with or who work for you on character traits. You can teach them. Do not gossip. Don't take something that's not yours, even if it's just something simple. I learned a lesson when I was young and it was just I wanted to always pick up like a loose paperclip and instead of putting it like in a common area, I put it on my desk. And as I got older, I thought, no, that's stealing, that wasn't mine. Even if it's still being used in business, that was not something given to me. And so some things like that, that are simple, you could really just to teach to those that you are with and then being the example, being the example because people will follow what leaders do, whether you're a parent or you're a supervisor, those that are your supervisor, they're going to follow what you do. So you've got to be that same example for them.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Absolutely. And it really does make sense because when you're in a position of leadership, if you want people to be able to be good employees, for instance, you want them to be able to provide good service for your customers and your clients. And if they're just running amok and not taking care of the company, in a sense, then you're going to have problems. And it does start from the top, doesn't it? I think that leadership has to start at the top.
    Christine Van Horn
It really does. Yeah. If you're the leader, director, executive of a company, you have got to be on your toes because people will watch. You can't tell them don't do this or don't do that, and then you go ahead and do it. They're not going to follow you. So if you have a policy to do something one way and you do it the other, you can be assured that everybody else is going to follow what you do and not the written rule and things will not be done correctly.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Now, I can see that having a mentor can certainly help you in being able to, as we talked about, to be able to avoid maybe some of the missteps that someone made at the beginning. But does being a mentor benefit the mentor as opposed to the mentee? And how can it?
    Christine Van Horn
Well, it really does because if you're teaching someone how to do something, you need to make sure you're really doing it yourself....

Namaste and welcome. I am so glad to be with you today. And I've got a wonderful woman in the studio, well, the virtual studio that we have and can't wait to get into our discussion today because she's actually somebody that I've known for a while, the same organization and together. So maybe we'll talk about that a little bit later. But first off, I want to introduce Marina Shakour Haber to you and tell you a little bit about who she is. So she was a successful entrepreneur in the nurse staffing industry, where she started to observe that too many people were stressed, overwhelmed, and unhappy. And so as a result, she decided to become a life coach, motivational speaker, and author. And she also has written two books, Dream a Better Dream, and her new book, Your GPS to Happiness. So those of you who are watching on YouTube can see she has a lovely promotional poster back there, and I love that you've done that. So, first off, I want to welcome you, Marina, to live, love, engage.
    Marina Shakour Haber
    Thank you so much. Namaste.
    Gloria Grace Rand
A lot of times I'll start off the podcast by asking our guests about their journey and how they got to where they are. But you pretty much cover that already in your bio. I'm sure there's more to it, and maybe we'll get into that, but I thought we would start today instead with asking you a little bit about why you decided to write, especially your latest book, Your GPS to Happiness. So what prompted that?
    Marina Shakour Haber
It really happened around the last election in 2016, 2017, where I observed the great sense of negativity. And I also, what I saw was this trickle down negativity. And, you know, energy flows. And if the energy is positive, it lifts up a room. If it is negative, it pulls us all down. And I observed this enormous sense of heaviness, of discomfort within our inner world, and I thought we could do better. I thought there is something we can do to guide people and also ourselves to find more happiness within, to turn into our inner world and to clean house within so that our outside world will follow suit. Because we truly live inside, not outside. Whatever energy we have within emerges and goes outside and affects everyone around us. So where to start? With the individual, with the individual sense of happiness and well-being.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Now, did you have an experience in your life where you sort of had to come up with this, well, GPS for yourself? And is that kind of what sparked you? Is it based on your own personal story or is it more of just learning from other people?
    Marina Shakour Haber
It's truly many instances where I had to rewrite and reinvent and reroute, reroute, reroute and change course. So, yes, spinning, spinning. It happened really twice. Two major incidents that led me on this path. The first one was pretty significant. It was my husband's business really went into not only bankruptcy, forced bankruptcy for protection, but it was that there was an issue with the nurses and the way he claimed them. He claimed them as independent contractors, but the government said they are employees. Then it went from bad to worse. Things could have been done better on both sides. No blame, it's just the way it was. But one day the IRS agents came and confiscated, took everything pretty much out of our house.
    Gloria Grace Rand
    Oh my goodness.
    Marina Shakour Haber
And that was when I had already a two-year-old daughter and I was six months pregnant. We know those are vulnerable. We are a little bit more sensitive when that happens. A little bit, yeah. Throughout the day, I was really crying and I was really upset, but for my mother, who told me that this was not the moment that I can give in to this letting go, this losing control over myself, the day after she told me this is the time that you need to ask for guidance from your divine, divine supporters, your divine team, your spirit guides. You need help. You really need help. And two days after that, I collected myself and I very much in à la mode of Scarlett O'Hara, I stood on the mountain; there was a little hill in my property that no longer was my property. And I stood there and I vowed that I would never be down again, that I would never go through something like this again. And I felt empowered. Not to say that the journey ahead was easy and there were many, many challenges ahead. But I started my own business, followed the same business that my husband had been in after many not so good attempts. And made it only after 14 years of being successful, down again it went. And this time it was just that it was over. And a psychic later on told me that whatever I would have done, it was not meant to continue because I had to follow the path that I believe I chose before I was born to do what I am doing now. And so the universe had been knocking and I had refused to answer before. It didn't need to go to this point that it went the second time that I had to close. I could have sold it, but I said, no, my life is good. I don't want to give up the golden goose for chasing or going after something else. Are you kidding? No. And the universe, they win. And they did. So, yeah.
    Gloria Grace Rand
I so resonate with what you were just talking about because yeah, it is interesting. There's some of this what you resist, persists, but it's also that sometimes the universe really wants you to go down a different path. And even if you have to do it kicking and screaming, it sometimes will, it is the right decision ultimately. And I'm sure you're probably as happy as you were in the other business, possibly even happier now that you've made the shift. What do you think? Is that true?
    Marina Shakour Haber
Absolutely. And you know what? There was always something missing. There was something missing. I was also not authentically me. I denied my spirituality. I denied my beliefs because I didn't want to be so odd. So, no, I didn't want that. And I had to come out of my closet. Besides, I also realized that I was really suffered from not being good enough. I suffered from being uncomfortable speaking up. I was suffered from really the lack of self-confidence. And this journey made me have to go out, and I had to be vulnerable, and I had to break down again and again until it broke wide open. And I said, okay, embrace who you are. It is what it is. And that's all. It's wonderful when we come to this point. I just love it.
    Gloria Grace Rand
Yeah, absolutely. And the other thing I wanted to comment about, which I thought was so great, is that I love that your mother was the one who said, you got to listen to your higher power, listen to your spirit guides or whatever. And you are so fortunate to have such an enlightened person for a mother to be able to tell you that, because not everybody does. So you're very fortunate for that. If someone's listening to this, it's like, okay, well, it's nice that you say that we can do this, but can you give us perhaps some practical steps on how we can kind of navigate when things, life does throw us curveballs, which it tends to do from time to time. What have you found?
    Marina Shakour Haber
What I have found is when we understand, and this is really a huge concept, is that things do not happen to us, they happen for us. That one word. When we change that one word, it changes our perspective. We understand this is for our benefit. We do have to go through challenges. There is no way around. You might as well take the challenge and run with it rather than have it run against you. So accept you have to go through challenges. And so, first of all, it happens for you. Second of all,...
