Destination Disaster

Well, we've reached a startling milestone in the war within Ukraine - we've officially reached the one year mark. This episode covers some key figures such as deaths, injuries, and infrastructure destruction. This war has become one of the largest humanitarian disasters that the world is currently facing today. The war has created a refugee crisis that has resulted in the mass exodus of over 8 million being forced from their homes. Total deaths are estimated to have reached somewhere near 300,000 total between both Russia and Ukraine with Russia suffering the latter due to poor planning and an overall lack of strategic planning. If you enjoyed the episode, please be sure to give it a like and share it.

Thanks for listening this week! We are discussing the Ohio-Pennsylvania Train Derailment and the associated affects and the devastating earthquake that impacted Turkey and Syria. The government response to the earthquake can be best described as lackluster. Over 40,000 have died as a result of negligence and mismanagement.

This week, we're discussing the 1883 Krakatoa eruption. This volcanic eruption was so violent that the sound produced was the loudest ever heard in history and traveled a terrifyingly fascinating distance of 3,000 miles to the south Pacific islands. Over 100,000 are estimated to have lost their lives during this eruption and the island where the volcano was located was left completely decimated.

Thanks for listening this week! This week, we're discussing the Domestic Terror threat and its escalation in recent years. At present, the FBI views White Supremacy as the top threat here in the country. Those very same groups have shown the ability to plan, communicate, and perpetrate attacks with the most recent occurring in Moore County, North Carolina. With these Domestic Terror groups now targeting Critical Infrastructure, this places a broader population at risk of an attack.

This week, we're discussing the I-35W bridge collapse that occurred in Minneapolis, Minnesota back in 2007. This episode explores the true risk of allowing aging infrastructure to exist in a state of failure. Bridge 9340 was rated structurally deficient in three separate reports, yet was allowed to remain open in its current state, and with continued monitoring. As a result, 13 people lost their lives and another 15 were injured.
