Developing the Mind of Christ

Listen Later

One of the most transformative things that can happen to you as a believer is developing the mind of Christ. First Corinthians 2 verse 16 says, "But we have the mind of Christ." This means that as a believer, you have access to the very thoughts, perspectives, and wisdom of Jesus Himself. The Holy Spirit living in you can shape your thinking to align with God's thinking. You can learn to see the world, see your circumstances, and see other people the way Jesus sees them.My dear friend, your mind is the battlefield. The enemy attacks your mind with lies, doubts, fears, and deceptions. If he can control your thinking, he can control your life. That is why Romans 12 verse 2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Transformation happens through the renewal of your mind. When your mind is renewed, your life is transformed. Developing the mind of Christ is the key to lasting change.Think about how Jesus thought. He thought in terms of the Father's will. He said in John 5 verse 30, "I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me." Jesus's mind was completely aligned with the Father. He did not have a divided mind. He did not struggle with conflicting priorities. He knew the Father's will, and He did it. That is the mind of Christ you are called to develop.Think about the apostle Paul. He wrote, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." Paul understood that the Christian life is not just about behavior modification. It is about a fundamental change in how you think. He wrote in Philippians 4 verse 8, "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things." Paul was giving a prescription for developing the mind of Christ. Fill your mind with what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy.Think about the difference between the natural mind and the spiritual mind. The natural mind focuses on the seen, the temporal, and the material. The spiritual mind focuses on the unseen, the eternal, and the spiritual. The natural mind is anxious about circumstances. The spiritual mind is at peace because it trusts God. The natural mind is proud and self-reliant. The spiritual mind is humble and dependent on God. Developing the mind of Christ means learning to think spiritually rather than naturally. So how do you actively develop the mind of Christ in your daily life? First, saturate your mind with Scripture every single day. The Word of God is the revealed mind of God. It contains His thoughts, His values, His priorities, and His perspective on every area of life. The more you read, study, memorize, and meditate on Scripture, the more your thinking will naturally align with God's thinking. The Word renews your mind daily and progressively transforms your thought patterns from worldly to godly. It corrects wrong thinking that you have developed over years and establishes right thinking based on eternal truth.Second, learn to take every single thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Second Corinthians 10 verse 5 gives us this essential spiritual discipline. You do not have to accept or entertain every thought that comes into your mind. You have the authority and the responsibility to examine every thought, evaluate it against the truth of Scripture, and actively reject any thought that does not align with the mind of Christ. Police your thoughts diligently. Challenge fearful thoughts with God's promises. Replace lies with truth.Third, practice the presence of God continuously throughout your day. As you cultivate an ongoing awareness that God is with you at every moment, your thoughts naturally and progressively align with His. When you are consciously aware that the Holy Spirit lives in you and that He hears every thought, you begin to think more carefully, more purely, and more righteously.Fourth, ask the Holy Spirit daily to guide and direct your thinking. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth. His primary ministry is to guide you into all truth and to reveal Christ to you. Invite Him specifically to bring the thoughts of Christ to your mind. Ask Him to shape your perspective on every situation you face, every decision you need to make, and every person you interact with.Fifth, carefully guard what you allow to enter your mind through your eyes and ears. Be extremely selective about what you watch, read, and listen to. The old saying is absolutely true. Garbage in produces garbage out. What you feed your mind will shape your thinking whether you realize it or not. Diligently fill your mind with things that feed your spirit and align with the mind of Christ. Protect your thought life like the precious battlefield that it is.What this produces in your life is a transformed life that reflects Jesus. When you have the mind of Christ, you respond to situations differently. You have peace in chaos. You have wisdom in confusion. You have love for the unlovable. You have patience in trials. Your thinking becomes a powerful witness to the reality of Christ in your life. The mind of Christ is not just a concept. It is a practical reality that changes how you live every day.Let us pray. Father, I want to have the mind of Christ. Renew my mind by Your Word. Help me to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Help me to fill my mind with what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. Holy Spirit, guide my thinking. Shape my perspective. Help me to see everything the way Jesus sees it. Transform my life by renewing my mind. Let the mind of Christ be formed in me. In Jesus mighty name, amen. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
