Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz and Jeff "Dawg" Healy did the show on Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/groups/DiamondDiehards). They went live during the decisive fifth game of the ALDS between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, hours after the announcement of the death of Whitey Ford. Riz put it all on the line and watched the Yankees get eliminated, giving The Dawg some solace after he watched the Mets go down time after time during episodes this season. They recapped the key points of the game and the series, broke down the Astros and how they got to the ALCS yet again, and looked at the paths of the Dodgers and Braves, who meet in the NLCS.
Are these playoffs legitimate? The guys give their answers, but you might want to especially hear their live reactions to some questionable umpiring. Was that enough to make them switch over to Game 5 of the NBA Finals? You might be surprised at the answer (actually, you won't be). Since it was a big day with all of this going on, there was a lot of Mike and the Mad Dog talk and homage going on. Mike Francesa did the final segment of Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo's show on Sirius XM earlier in the day, and it helped provide some memorable Diamond Diehards moments. There was also an influx of new names popping in to view the live stream, prompting Riz & Dawg to attempt to speak a little Spanish.
The guys continue to do more shows live, and are looking to move forward to also get it on YouTube, Twitch and other outlets, so keep an eye out for that and give us feedback. We want to know what you prefer!
The Veteran of the Day, delivered by Dawg, was Ford, the late Yankees legend and Hall-of-Famer. Ford began his career with the Yankees in 1950, won nine games that year, then enlisted in the military during the Korean War. He served as a private in the signal corps at Fort Monmouth. He played 20 games as a pitcher and 20 as an OF while in the Army. His service lasted two years, after which he returned the Yankees, where he played until 1967. Ford has been quoted as saying, "Army life was rough. Would you believe it, they actually wanted me to pitch three times a week."
