My name is Jojo. I am a dog.
This is my friend, Lin.
Lin jumped out of bed.
“It’s Saturday, Jojo,” she said.
“It’s time to play!”
“Come here!” I called. “I’m in
the backyard.

“We can’t play today,” I said.
“Mom is giving me a bath.”
Mom asked Lin to help.
Lin bent down to hold me while
Mom gave me a bath.
“Why are you taking a bath
now?” Lin asked me.

“I am going to work today,”
I said.
“What do you mean?”
Lin asked. “Dogs like to run and
play. Dogs don’t work.”
“Dogs do like to run and play,”
I said. “But I have been going to
school to learn a new job.”

Lin brushed my fur. I smiled.
“What kind of work can you
do?” she asked.
“Come with us and you’ll see,”
I said.

Mom drove us to a big building
in the city. We walked to the door.
I pulled on my leash to make Mom
and Lin go faster.
“Be good, Jojo,” Mom said.
“You’re on the job now.”

A woman met us at the door.
“My name is Ana,” she said.
“I’m so glad you’re here.”
Then she led us to a big, sunny
room that was full of people.
They were all waiting for me!

A man was sitting by the
window. I went and stood by him.
The man petted me and talked to
me quietly.
Then I went over to a lady
in a wheelchair. She gave me
a big hug.

Then I did a trick.
“What a smart dog!”
the lady said.
“I taught him that trick,” said Lin.
The lady squeezed Lin’s hand.
“Then you’re smart, too,” she said.
I smiled at Lin. I taught her
some tricks, too!

Lin looked at our new friends.
She saw that we made many
people feel happy.
“You did a good job, Jojo,”
she said.
“You did a good job, too, Lin,”
I said.
