We have our first ever fan submission this episode! That gives us 5 whole topics in this episode! We have Dan leading us off with a discussion about the Nintendo Switch getting a whole bunch of Asmodee distributed board games, Max talks to us about how media as a service, at least when run by Apple might not be a good idea, Dan brings us back up to speed on the continuing trials of getting a film made from the Lovecraft classic “The Color Out of Space” and then Max runs us a neat little story about a lake that wound up with a Jason Vorhees statue at the bottom of it that’s causing quite the controversy. Then our first ever fan subscription from longtime listener Natalie who wanted us to know about the continuing troubles that American Gods Season Two is having, now having lost yet another show runner.
But this week Max can’t win as once again Dan has scooped his story about the Academy Awards scrapping their proposed “Most Popular Film” category which launches a healthy discussion about the things wrong with Hollywood. Dan then gives us a short story about the fact that Guillermo del Toro once made fun of Alfonso Cuaron for not wanting to direct a Harry Potter film. Max tells us all about how Sand Diego Comic Con is in court over the rights to their name, and Dan rounds us out with discussion about Warner Media’s new promise to be an inclusive company, which leads us back down the rabbit hole of discussing everything wrong with Hollywood. Is there something you want to know if we’ve seen or think we should see? Let us know on Twitter or Facebook!
Welcome back, friends and fans. This week Dan leads us off with discussion about what a David Cronenberg TV show would look like, Max gets excited about Guillermo del Toro producing the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" adaptation, Dan is excited about a 33-person Game of Thrones megagame, and Max tells us about Matt Groenig finally confirming that it was actually Michael Jackson in that episode of The Simpsons with that guy who looked like Michael Jackson. Sad start to the episode this week, talking about death as Dan informs us about the passing Neil Simon. Max (yes, Max) then tells us about video games with the announcement of Supermassive Games Man of Medan their stylistic follow-up to Until Dawn. Dan takes us to dancing school with a review of the trailer for the Amazon Studios "Susperia" remake (spoiler, there are several witches). Max then rounds us out talking about a true banger, the newly released Gunship track "When You Grow Up, Your Heart Dies". Is there something you think we should have seen or wonder if we have seen? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
In a row! Clerks joke. Also, this episode features the rare Max going first and it features 3 stories from Dan, because that's just how it went. Max leads us off with discussion about Cards Against Humanity hiring freelance part-time writers for their world famous card game. Dan takes us into comic book news to discuss HBO's Wathmen adaptation? Reboot? Something? which apparently also takes place in Tulsa, OK which is the same town Dan has been living in for the last year! Max takes us back to tabletop gaming with a review of a recording of a Magic: The Gathering tournament from all the way back in 1994. Dan keeps us in tabletop with the announcement of a Dune RPG coming late next year to tie in with the new film coming in 2020 and then finishes us off with the fact that Keanu Reeves and Winona Rider might be actually married from their time filming Dracula 25 years ago. Is there something you think we should have seen or wonder if we've seen? Let us know on Twitter or Facebook.
