Differing Things

What is the "mystery" (secret) of which the Apostle Paul speaks and how can we understand it? In this episode of Differing Things, we will examine this topic by asking a series of questions:

Who is this mystery for? Where did the mystery originate? Why is the mystery referred to as a secret? When and why was the mystery planned? When was the mystery revealed? What is the mystery about? Why is the mystery so important? How are the things of God embodied in the mystery?

In 1 Corinthians 1:1-2,9 we read of three callings of God: (1) Paul's call to apostleship, (2) to sainthood, and (3) to fellowship. It is important for us as believers to look at these three callings and understand their importance.

It would take a careful student of Paul's life many volumes of books to express all of the leadership lessons that can be gleaned from his life and ministry. Church leaders can learn much going through the Apostle Paul's life, and how he demonstrated leadership for us.

Since the Biden administrations early years, we have been told that inflation is either insignificant, transitory, or a short-term pain for a long-term stable economy. But now, almost all economists and government leaders will acknowledge that inflation is here to stay for the foreseeable future. How should we think about inflation from the Bible's perspective? What lessons can we learn from the past? How can we prepare for the future?

The Bible is full of figures of speech which have not been brought into our translations accurately. One of these figures of speech is hyperbole, to exaggerate or amplify something for effect. Many of the figures of speech in the Bible border what we in the West would consider a lie, but not so from an Eastern point of view. These figures of speech and cultural differences can indeed make Bible study difficult. Recognizing these figures of speech and cultural differences helps the Bible student understand a passage in a profound way they never could have without that understanding.

Very few of us ever think about how different a modern Western economy is from a Near East Ancient economy.
