since elementary school, we've gotten our names pronounced because it's too "difficult" for people to pronounce. but the question is, why are people so willing to pronounce long european names while ethnic ones are mentioned as broken syllables?

we heard a quote recently by the late nipsey hussle (rip) that goes, "the reasonable man adapts himself to the world. the unreasonable ones persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. therefore, all progress in the world depends on the unreasonable man." in the south asian community, any individual that's en route to pursuing a career outside of the traditional ones, the ones we're all aware of, they're pretty much given the side eye. the two of us are currently following a path into the arts, but the journey definitely hasn't been just a walk in the park. in this episode, we dive deeper into the reasoning behind why we're so persistent in pursuing our odd paths, the different struggles and roadblocks we've faced along the way, and share some of our listener's responses to what obstacles they're actively working through in their lives. listen to us in explaining why we chose to go against the grain in our community and become the unreasonable ones.

both of us have grown up working different fields, one working in coffee shops and clothing stores while the other working in a dentist office, a pharmacy, and schools. as adults now, we realize that these jobs determined our status, reputations, and our overall outlook on society. in this episode, we talk about why we felt like we had to get these jobs, the negative stereotypes that are associated with certain professions, and what we did to unlearn them.

the both of us just came back from vacation, but the guilt we felt prevented us from completely enjoying ourselves. since it has always been our moms' dreams to come on luxurious vacations like ours, it felt wrong that we were there without them. it felt wrong that we were relaxing and reaping these benefits when they deserve it so much more. in this episode, we talk about the guilt that south asian children feel when they go on vacations, especially if their family wasn't able to afford many growing up. do we deserve this vacation?

the two of us are workaholics to the core. but where does this work ethic come from? probably something that all of us can relate to, from learning how our parents immigrated across the waters to a foreign land where they had to build their lives up, brick by brick. in this episode, we go in depth on the work backgrounds of our parents and how they influenced our work ethic, and what we think about the work-school balance in our community. in the words of A$AP Ferg, Rihanna, and many more moguls, what's your reason for not putting in work today?

growing up in a south asian household is probably the scariest, most exciting thing in the world. with the increase in age comes the beauty of expanding knowledge, but just as much the pressure of upholding certain traditions. the two of us are both turning 23 this month, and we've learned a thing or maybe two along the way on how to maneuver through life as young, maturing south asian representatives. listen to us speak about our lessons including humility, distance, forgiveness, and so many more!

things like this can be difficult to talk about, not only with our parents, but even with ourselves. anxiety is a feeling everyone on the planet as felt, some stronger than other, but the anxiousness that comes within a south asian upbringing is in its own realm. in this episode, we start scratching the surface of what makes us feel anxious, hitting on points including misrepresentation and failure, the effect that our culture and identity plays its part, and things we find helpful for alleviation!

In today's first ever episode, we start from our roots. One of us grew up in the suburbs of Long Island, NY while the other grew up in Orlando, FL. where we rarely saw anyone that looked like us. This affected our perceptions of ourselves, our relation to our culture, and our entire upbringing. Listen as we talk about how our upbringing shaped us, instances where we ashamed of it, and how we embraced it. We hope you enjoy it! Stay tuned every Friday at 10 AM EST!
