  • The Way of the Gundam
By the time of the late 1970's, Japan's airwaves were flooded with giant robots.  Every week new adversaries would appear for their super-powered robot heroes to smash and save the day.  However, as the animation genre itself was changing from TV Manga to Anime, giant robots also needed to change into something more meaningful and Yoshiyuki Tomino had an idea how to do it.
Welcome to season 1 episode 34 of Digital Dissection: A Nerd Podcast! Today Joe and Mark give you a crash course on the making of Mobilesuit Gundam and the plot of the original series.  This week's topic is also at the request of twitter follower "GeoFire" after winning our contest on twitter...a little while ago.  Be sure to like, comment, subscribe, and review as we bring you more content each week!

  • Gundam Wing
Welcome to listener's choice week! Some time ago, in the world of Twitter, a winner chose a topic for the three of us to discuss! However, like any good RPG, we may have gotten caught up in a few side quests...
We are finally giving @Geofire the week he requested, oh so long ago, with Gundam week! Today we focus on Gundam Wing, which was the first exposure most people in the US had to the franchise.
Be sure to join us Wednesday for more on the original Mobile Suit Gundam!
Fact Check! Gundam Wing premiered in 1995, not 1997. The OVA Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz premiered in 1997. My bad. -Joe

  • An Ode to Voice Acting

Throughout our childhood an into our adult lives, we here at Digital Dissection love us some good cartoons, anime, and video games.  Something that always makes the characters of these mediums stand out are the men and women who provide their vocal talent to bring those characters to life.

On today's Side Stitches, we talk about some of our favorite voice actors in preparation for this week's interview with the incredibly talented Kyle Hebert.

We may do a little voice acting today ourselves, albeit very awkwardly... but acting none the less!

  • The Many Easter Eggs of Ready Player One

What happens when you mix a story about fighting corporate greed, an immersive online world, a dash a romance, strong friendships, and pop culture references that span four decades?

You get Ernest Cline's READY PLAYER ONE -- a best selling novel (2011) followed by a movie adaptation in 2018! It'd go on to feature roughly a million Easter eggs as a full blown pop culture celebration Directed by Steven Spielberg..

In today's episode of Side Stitches, Joe and Mark don't go over EVERY Easter egg, but they do cover some of their favorites, as well as where they think the world will be in 2050 -- the timeline where the story takes place.
