Get your friends together and get ready to quest because this week we are talking about the history of Role Playing Games!
Welcome to Season 1 Episode 24 of Digital Dissection: A Nerd Podcast; today Mark, Chelsea, and Joe cover the expansive, and frankly a bit overwhelming, history of RPGs!
Before they hit our consoles with adorable little sprites that traversed vast fantasy landscapes, RPG's had a far clunkier, yet refined (by rules), start on tabletops & computers that looked like something we used to put a man on the moon.
After Part 1 we'll be covering modern developments in RPGs after the late 90s when the genre waned slightly in popularity.

Take a hit TV show with entertaining characters, great writers, and hilarious antics and that should be easy to turn into a great video game right?...right?
In today's side stich, Chelsea, Joe, and Mark discuss how South Park had a pretty rocky start when it tried to enter the video game world in 1998. However, by the time the boys banded together to fight over the Stick of Truth, there was a lot of development in the gaming industry that led to a bigger, richer, and much more enjoyable gaming experience.

The Legend of Zelda would take many creative turns throughout its rich history spanning 35+ years. While to many the narrative might just seem like standard fantasy, it's actually a time bending experience the further you go.
To help better understand this narrative choice Chelsea & Joe share their deep understanding of the series with Mark whose experience largely rests with the most nostalgic entries on the Nintendo & Super Nintendo.
HEY LISTEN! It's time to learn about ALL timelines as The Legend of Zelda continues.

Mike Judge makes great movies... unfortunately they're not always marketed for a myriad of reasons.
Fortunately Joe & Mark are joined this week by Edward A. Havens III of the FilmJerk Podcast to break down the 2006 cult classic. Edward has a personal connection to the film and operated one of the 130 theatres selected to present the movie during its theatrical release.
This week includes history, the film's breakdown, and parallels to the modern day. Idiocracy may have been a satire... but are we living it now?

Many at least know Beavis and Butthead by name.
What about Office Space? Extract? Silicon Valley? Idiocracy? Mike Judge many ways understands his own brand of dry comedy that exists in several projects across film & TV.
Join Joe and Mark for a discussion on this legacy and a bit of background on the man himself.
