Director Showdown

Dennis has allowed Adam and Brent a brief armistice, in which the guys watch the Ridley Scott 1982 Sci-Fi classic, ‘Blade Runner’! In their excitement for Blade Runner 2049, Dennis let them revisit and discuss one of Brent and Adam’s favorite movies. On the episode, they discuss the many themes behind the film, some fascinating trivia on the process of making it, Linklater’s and Refn’s potential take on the movie, as well as get hyped about 2049 and talk about director Denis Villenueve! It’s a jam packed bonus episode, so check it out and tell all your Blade Runner-fan friends!

Join Adam and Brent on the final episode of Season 2, as they continue to be on the run from Dennis, going bunker to attic to bunker, trying to find a place to record. Everything comes to a head on this episode, but before that, they are joined in another undisclosed location by their friend John Casares and Brent’s wife Amy. They talk the final Refn film of the season, ‘The Neon Demon’ and get into the many possibly metaphors in the movie, as well as talk at length about how different people view and interpret film. It’s a bit of a deeper dive into movies in general than the fellas usually go, but it makes for a great final episode of the season, so enjoy and tell your friends about the podcast!

Episode 7 of Season 2

On the penultimate episode of Director Showdown, Brent and Adam are joined by their penultimate Stickerfridge friend David, for a deep dive into the 1993 film ‘Dazed and Confused’. The guys are doing their best to avoid Dennis at all costs, and have found a bunker to watch the film and record in. David brings a ton of fascinating trivia to the table this episode, as the guys talk about the origins of McConaughey, Adam Goldberg (the Hebrew Hammer) and plenty more. There are a few technical hiccups this episode, which I hope you guys can look past. Next week is sure to be a straight-up, by the books entry of Director Showdown, but we hope you enjoyed the episode. Show your friends and family, and thank you for listening!

This week, Adam and Brent are joined by a Stickerfridge favorite, Zach! They talk the most divisive Refn film yet, ‘Only God Forgives’ and the hidden layers behind the film, some wild trivia, and their personal origins with the movie. Yet again, the boys are joined by this seasons recurring character, Dennis, who will apparently plague us indefinitely. Again, we apologize profusely, as we want this to stop as much as you do, but please be patient as we look into different methods to deal with the issue. Aside from that, it’s a great episode, so tell your buddies and enjoy!

This week on Director Showdown, it’s School of Rock! Adam and Brent are joined by Stickerfridge ‘Fam Films’ favorite, Brian Menard! Brian tells the guys which director he prefers, they talk about their personal history with the movie, and how different (and mainstream) it is from Linklater’s other films. We had a few technical difficulties this week, hence Brent and Brian sharing a mic, and a (hopefully not too annoying) buzz during the podcast. Regardless, it’s a great, wacky episode and we hope you enjoy it!

P.S. We want to sincerely apologize for Dennis’s continued harassment and annoyances on this new season. We’re doing everything in our power to rid ourselves, and our audience, of this menace. Thank you for understanding.

This week on Director Showdown, the boys are back in Refn’s corner, checking out his 2008 semi-biographical film ‘Bronson’, about the infamous British criminal. It’s one of Tom Hardy’s earlier breakout roles, and the fellas dive into his performance, his penises performance, and more! This week, Brent and Adam talk about Linklater’s experimental 2006 film ‘A Scanner Darkly’ and although they don’t have a friend on this week, are joined (interrupted) by an unexpected (and uninvited) new guest. Hopefully he doesn’t pop in again, but our apologies for his intrusion on this episode. Aside from that, the boys talk about rotoscope animation, how great Robert Downey Jr. is, and a solid amount about drugs! As always, tell your pals about the show and like, follow and subscribe Stickerfridge on all of the things! Also, it’d be awesome if you rated us on iTunes!

To kick off the first week of Refn flicks, Brent and Adam watch his 2011 masterpiece ‘Drive’, starring Ryan Gosling, Bryan Cranston and Oscar Isaac. They get into Refn’s incredibly stylized directing, dream up a world with a Ryan Gosling/Dan Stevens rom-com, and even come up with a pretty badass idea for Linklater’s version of Drive. Tell your movie-loving friends to check out the show, and get at us with any ideas or feedback you have regarding the episodes. Cya!

Director Showdown is back with ‘Slacker’ to kickstart season 2!

This season, Adam and Brent are facing off Nicolas Winding Refn vs Richard Linklater; The hit directors of such films as ‘Drive’, ‘Only God Forgives’, ‘Neon Demon’, and ‘School of Rock’, ‘Boyhood’ and ‘Dazed and Confused’! They kick things off with Linklater’s 1991 cult-classic and directorial debut ‘Slacker’. Neither of the boys have seen it (which is a first for the podcast) so they have a great time unpacking their thoughts, as well as talking of growing up near Austin and the authenticity the movie captures. A synth-y new intro song! More Tom Hanks talk! Fireworks galore! It’s going to be a great season, so enjoy the first episode and watch along with the episodes!
