It’s the final bonus episode of the season as the boys watch ‘Super Mario Bros’! Friend of the podcast John Casares returns to discuss his pick in the new bonus episode competition ‘Director Showdown Roulette’. The guys talk about converting Mario into a film, some deep Mario lore, and possible ideas to successfully adapt video games to film (your welcome Hollywood). It’s an extra length episode, and unfortunately, the last one from us for a little bit (while we bank up episodes for next season amidst our increasingly busy lives).
Again, we thank you all for listening to our most popular season yet, and make sure to tell your friends about Director Showdown, rate, review, and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts! We’ll see you guys soon!

It’s the first bonus episode of Season 4 and we’re joined by the Menard brothers (Sean and Brian) to talk a few experiences we had watching ‘Close Encounter of the Third Kind’, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and ‘Book of Henry’ (those first two on the big screen!) It’s a bit of a ‘fam films-one-off-crossover, unlike any bonus episode we’ve had before, but we couldn’t pass the opportunity to see these films in theaters, and to talk about that experience for the podcast. We talk about the meaning of Close Encounters, seeing 2001 in IMAX, and just how insane Colin Trevorrow must be to follow up ‘Jurassic World’ with ‘Book of Henry’. It’s the first of 2 bonus episodes, so stick with us during this interim between seasons, and enjoy the episode!

On this final episode for season 4, Adam and Brent watched the 1950’s period romance ‘Phantom Thread’. The boys talk about the quite nuance of the romance in the movie, Brent takes a test to see if he’s a sadist, and they talk about the season as a whole and if they can successfully crown a champion. There are no guests on this one, just our good ol’ boys talking a couple of their favorite directors, so enjoy! As usual, please rate/review/subscribe and tell your friends about the show, and thanks for listening to season 4 of Director Showdown!

This week on Director Showdown, Adam and Brent are joined by Delfin pod network creator, Emmanuel Delfin to talk The Hateful Eight! It’s a pretty lengthy episode, with tangents aplenty, including discussions about Wayne Brady, attending Tarantino’s 70 millimeter roadshow and fucking peaches? It’s our last Tarantino movie for the podcast, so tell your friends about the show and rate/review/subscribe on iTunes or wherever! Thanks for listening!

This week, the boys have a laid-back discussion of PTA’s meandering, labyrinthine Pynchon adaptation ‘Inherent Vice’! They hang out with returning guest Sean Menard, and talk the movies meaning, performances, and entertain a few tangents that may or may not be relevant to the topic at hand. It’s a bit of a weird one, but it’s only fitting for the strange experience that is ‘Inherent Vice’! Make sure to tell your friends/family about the show and rate/review/subscribe on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, man!

Adam and Brent are talking Tarantino’s revisionist-history WW2 epic with returning guest Zach Cavender! The boys talk about what makes this movie so incredibly tense, Hans Landa as one of the best villains of 21st century cinema, and plenty more! They also dive into some rather #triggering territory near the end, so buckle up for another great one, now with even more tangents!

This episode of Director Showdown, the fellas are talking PTA’s underrated masterpiece ‘The Master’. They’re joined again by their friend John Casares, and they talk about PTA’s writing method, how incredibly Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are in their roles, the depiction of Scientology in the movie, and a dabble into some politics near the end. It’s another extra length episode, but filled with great stuff, so enjoy and don’t forget to rate, review and subscribe the podcast!

This week, Adam and Brent are joined by Stickerfridge cohort (and returning guest from A.I.) Brian Menard! They’re talking one of the best movies ever made, ‘There Will Be Blood’. Among the talking points are the discussion of faith and capitalism as American pillars, TWBB as a kind of American origin story, and how fucking good Daniel Day-Lewis is. Is it better than Pulp Fiction? Is it even possible to compare two radically different movies? That and more on this episode of Director Showdown!

Adam and Brent welcome back Sergio Banuelos (2001 episode) to take a deep dive into Tarantino’s nonlinear masterpiece ‘Pulp Fiction’. The guys get deep into the meaning behind it, whether Tarantino will ever top the movie (or even really try) and a little about his upcoming film ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’! It’s a jam packed episode, with plenty of Bruce Willis puns as well, so tell your friends to listen and enjoy!
