Intriguing plot, well read

This is the only book at Audible by Teresa Crane, and I hope there will be more. It will not be satisfying for those who are squeamish about incest or emotional manipulation in relationships, or who are expecting more intrigue and less history and geography. However, the primary character is presented sympathetically, even though by today's standards, she is naive. If you appreciate the constraints placed on middle-class women in England in the early 1920's, you will find the protagonist's psychological needs compelling, and you will understand how she is drawn into two mysteries she faces.

Good clean historical Christian book

I loved the book and the characters, they were easy to relate to. I learned a lot about ww1, which I haven't read a lot about. The author is very talented and I appreciate all the scripture references and the central part about Christ our Lord.

disappointment heard great things about book and author, however this book did not live up to expectations

Could have been better!

This story was so slow, it took forever to lead us to the villain. It was drawn out way too long which made the story interesting instead of great! There could have been more meaning to the characters besides that the narrator pronounces some of the words differently which drove me crazy. Don't get me wrong she did a good job it was just the narration. I am going to pause first before I decide to listen to another book from this author.

A winters morning of snow brought me to the end of this audiobook. As I get older, I appreciate Miss Reads calm writing more and more. A very gentle book. Lovely.

Dreadful, Self-Importment, and Silly

This book seeks to present itself as Victorian erotica, in the then-popular style of memoir. However, throughout, the "writer" is clearly overcome by her own sense of self-importance, titillates with promises of erotic events to come that occur infrequently, and tells her story in a confusing way. Her too-frequent direct comments to her audience are so unbearably annoying that the listener simply has to grit her teeth and bear with them--if she is going to stick with the book at all.

I hung in with this book to the end, but really, "gentle listener"--save your money on this one.

There's a story in there somewhere..............

The idea of the story sounded so good, so different, that I thought that this would be a great addition to my audio library. Holy cow, what a mistake! I, gamely, hung in there for almost 2 hours to try to get past all the extraneous, explicit sex scenes, and finally decided that the story was actually, not even secondary to this author and book.

Way too bad, because the idea of the story was a terrific one, but, ruined.

Do yourself a BIG favor, save your credits and more importantly, your MONEY!! Pass on this one. I wish I had.

I was disappointed. I thought this book was a romance or a historical novel, but its nothing but hard core erotica. I gave up listening when the protagonist was getting turned on by her husband beating the servant wtih the riding crop. Life is too short to want to read this.

This is the final book in a series that takes readers from the beginning of WWII to VE Day and beyond. Thus it continues the stores of several people the reader first meets in Book 1. I do not have the other two books, and there seems to be no easy way for me to get them because they are published in Britain. I enjoyed what I did read and was particularly happy to see that one of the more gripping love stories (no sex scenes) was between two men. I have several newly married gay friends of both genders and see how happy they are to no longer be able to hide their sexuality. To read about an evolving romance in a book not aimed at the LGBT community was wonderful. (And no I am not gay.) I wish I had access to the other two books. That said, this one was nicely written and filled in some gaps in my questions about what life was like in Britain in WWII.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although I enjoyed all four books in the series, definitely the best was left till last. For me, it had just the right amount of suspense, drama, realism and romance.

I can truthfully say that I have enjoyed reading the whole series of 4 books.Loved the characters and the background during World War II.Nice touch with the love story between Rose and Richard.Definitely I will recommend the books to all historical fiction readers.
