Fast-paced Sexy Read

This book was a joy! I loved the feisty heroine and the old-fashioned hero who doesn't turn out to be as hard-hearted as he wants everyone to think he is. The secondary characters are well written, and story truly reflective of the times it represents. There's history here, but it doesn't overshadow the story (I like that). I gobbled this book up in one read! If you like a sexy, well-written romances, with lots of unexpected things going on - A Stylish Marriage is for you.

Excellent historical

A STYISH MARRIAGE is a touching love story. Regina Van Buren is everything a man could want, intelligent, spirited, and lovely. She's also a determined suffragette, who has no interest in marrying an old-fashioned man. Match her up with a man like the old-fashioned, but handsome, Jonathan Belmont Parker, and the sparks start to fly. Their story is entertaining, witty, sensual, and full of just enough surprises to keep you turning the page. I highly recommend this book.

A up and Coming Star

"A Stylish Marriage" is another star on this up and coming author in the romance industry.

Regina is a strong, spirited suffragette who never plans to marry until Jonathon walks into her life. Who will be the winner in this game of love and marriage. You must read to find out. I must add there is a sub plot to this book that brings Patricia Waddell's writing to full circle. She never leaves her reader's wanting more.

Her Best Book Yet!

I've read several of Patricia Waddell's books, and this one is her best yet. As usual, she does something really different--different setting, time period and characters. Jonathan is an alpha hero but still has a lot of tenderness and great charm. And I loved the women's suffrage element!

Definitely a one sitting read.

Loved It !!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a well-paced romp through the suffrage era with a delightful heroine and a charming hero. There's a touch of mystery, and a large dose of the sensuality Patricia Waddell does so very well. You won't be disappointed with this book.

Memphis, 1862. The Randolph men are off fighting for the Confederates and Charlotte is home minding the family mansion and her younger brother Alexander. Believing the Randolph home to be deserted, the Union soldiers take possession for use as a headquarters. Charlotte flees with Alexander, but her older brother convinces her to return so she can spy for them. Charlotte does her best to bat her eyelids and charm the young officers to spill the beans, but Captain Ben Chandler doesn't fall for it and he's determined to get to the truth. This being a romance novel and all I don't think it's any surprise that the one man who isn't fooled is the one Charlotte falls in love with - and by this time she's fairly torn over the consequences of her actions spying for the Confederacy - men may die because of what she's passed on.

I found this an OK novel, not great but not bad either. I had a hard time accepting that a gently bred unmarried woman would allow herself to live without a chaperon in a house filled with soldiers, yet no one raised an eyebrow over it. According to the blurbs I've seen Charlotte's story is based upon a real female spy, but I didn't find any author's notes in my Kindle edition and couldn't find anything remotely similar to Charlotte's situation so I have no idea how close to "history" her story really is. It also seemed a bit of a stretch how easily the Union officers fell for Charlotte's wiles and spilled all the beans about troop activity. I thought giving Ben a disability a nice change from the ever perfect male hero (he lost part of his leg in battle), but there again, I just didn't pick up on much chemistry between the two. A fairly decent story for fans of Civil War romances, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hunt it down. Thankfully I picked this one up as a freebie.

Innocent Deceptions

The civil war took its toll on everyone, Charlotte was no exception. Growing up in the south was the only thing she knew until the union soldiers invaded her town, along with them the injured captain. While her feelings were changed so was her mind.

I loved the characters in this book and I especially love reading about anything that has to do with the civil war. This book was a very good characterization of what people had to go through and what life was like being on both sides. Charlotte was strong and confident and I loved Alexander dearly. This was a great read and I am looking forward to more stories by this author.

A great read

Love this book. It's nice to see a Prince Charming that isn't emotionally unavailable but perfect in every other way as you so often find in romance novels.

Very insightful read.

The author has the rare ability to write a novel that holds the readerâs interest from start to finish and never stoops to mollycoddling said readerâs feelings. She is intuitive in regard to human nature and portrays it honestly without condemnation or flattery. The portrayal of the relationship nuances of the individuals in her book are insightful and surprising, most notably the marriage situation of John Davis and his wife. Captures the multifaceted essence of Montanaâs forests very skillfully in her story.

Review

I recently became aware of this author. I started with another of her novels then picked this one up partly because of the subject, but also because of the great character development in the other novel. This is an interesting novel, the plot is believable, but but not her best effort.

One of my favorite books, and a real insight to life 100 years ago in North Eastern Montana. Mildred Walker is a remarkable writer, one of my favorites.

an absorbing, quick read

I've read many of Mildred Walker's books, my favorite being Winter Wheat. This book takes a group of "city slickers" into the Montana wilderness where a terrible forest fire burns. The people are tested by the fire and learn about themselves and about the others whom they thought they knew.

Horrible

Worst book I have ever heard. I was almost comical in how bad it was. The narrator was horible as well the storty was dumb- don't waste your time!

Editor should go back to school

I have read this book in print form, and it's lovely. The editor cut out everything but the sex scenes, including a half-dozen interesting and endearing characters and most of the personality traits and history of the main characters.

The narrator made it all much worse, with horrendous accent and inflection.

Waste of Time & Money

This book is utter drivel. There is no plot. The hero and heroine are idiots, having no interesting personality traits, just pleasing physical attributes. It takes more than explicit sex scenes to make a romance interesting.

Pale

Audio books are new to me.This was a nice story, though far from creative. I'm thinking maybe the unabridged version would have been more enjoyable. The story seemed to have been missing some....flavor? When it ended, all I could think of was "Is that it?"!

So Bad!

I've never felt so strongly in the negative about a book, but this one is bad beyond belief! I usually like to hear Anne Flosnik read a book, but this one makes her sound like count chocula on crack. I had to slow it down to even make sense of it. I usually speed books up. That's only the beginning of the pain that is this book. I tried to listen to it, I REALLY did, but i couldn't even make it to chapter 3. Yes, it's THAT BAD!

This is the most romantic, exciting historical romance I have listened to so far. I consider this a true gem among historical romances. It grips your heart and sweeps you away.

The narrator, Josephine Bailey is without a doubt the most talented of all of the narrators that I have yet to listen to. I only wish she would produce more historical romance audio books.

A very good read

This was a very good book, and well worth getting. The narration was excellent and the book itself was well paced. The only problem I had was that from time to time I wanted to hit Destiny and Jason over the head and tell them to get it together. All it all, it was a very good read

Beautifully written, off the beaten path

if all your historical romances are starting to run together, this story is powerful, gripping and emotional, with none of the expected plot devices. I didn't want it to end!

More Adventure then Romance

If you like detailed descriptions of battles, how to inflict wounds and stories where the hero and heroine spend more time chasing each other than in each others arms than this is the book for you. This story had lots of adventure but not much romance. Destiny needs a good shot of self esteem to help her realize that there were more important things in her lovers life then her!

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER

I enjoyed this clean Christian romance with two people, both Christians, but both considered plain in the eyes of most people. Sadly, others saw the outward appearance and did not see the beauty inside their heart and soul. Rose placed a mail-order bride ad and when it was answered and she ended up in Prairie City, the man who sent for her was only looking for a cook and housekeeper. Broken-hearted, but without any other options, she accepts what has happened. Her prayers remain steady, and her answers from God are always, Trust Me. Earl is in love with her at first sight, but why would she even look his way? A life and death situation opens the door for two people to admit their feelings finally, both trusting the Lord and His perfect timing. The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning in this sweet romance. The dialog is gentle in reminding us that Godâs timing is always perfect.

Wonderfully written!

Another great Christian book that will warm your heart. Rose has no family,now and she needs to marry. Thinking she was going to marry through the mail-order system, surprises don't stop once she gets to the end of her journey. Her hopes are to find someone who will love her for herself. Rose thinks she's just a plain-looking woman...and finds the man who paid for her travels is more handsome than anyone had the right to be. But it isn't marriage to her he had in his mind. What is a woman to do in a time where women couldn't be without family or husband?

Sweet Christian Romance

Just finished Wild Prairie Rose and loved it. Reading a sweet Christian romance is a real treat. This is a good one for any reader who has felt insecure about their self-image. Isn't that all of us?

I found this novella in the American State Flower collection and have ordered others.

I liked it

i did not know if would like this book after some of the reviews. I did after I started getting into the story. Antonia Locke wanted to be like her sister who was thin but she was plump . She was a lover of music and composed some herself. Patrick Fairchild Duke of Exton had been looking for two years to find a woman to be in his unfinished picture of other nudes he had done..he had always wanted to be a artist but his father forbid it. He sees Antonia sees his Venus and thinks he can get her to pose nude for him with no problems,. He already had done that with other women taking them to bed and they did it willing after that. He could not get Antonio to fall for his charms. He asks her to marry him. She wonders why a Duke would want someone like her. He has a partner in all his seductions before Gordon that is not a likeable person.You will see why as the book goes on.Antonio will find out the truth about the upcoming marriage will she go through with it?

Patrick is a rake he couldn't leave women alone in the past so I think that is why some reviewers did not like the book. I liked the story was a different theme but doubt if I would read it again.

Disappointed

I enjoyed Ferguson's "A Christmas Bride" but this one, not so much. The heroine lacked self-esteem, and the "hero" - I use that term loosely - was an unlikable man-whore. I will try more from this author in the hope this is an unfortunate exception and not the rule.

Makes Being Full-Figured Wonderful

The heroine was wonderfully refreshing in that she was not the usual slim one. She was considered full in size and character with a love for the arts. The hero started out wanting her for a painting but ended up finding much more. I will say a wonderful story. I love the way jo ann ferguson can say so much with so few words has expressed by the hero to heroine. I am becoming more into Ms. Ferguson's writing everyday. Enjoy the read.

Had to read it!

Usually I read historical fiction, Gore Vidal, Gary Jennings & Umberto Eco are some of my favorites but I had to make an exception and read this. Although I have a taste for thinner women I was right in there with the Duke trying to get Miss Antonia's cloths off. How could I help but try to get into the Duke's devious thoughts. My hat is off to Ms. Ferguson for developing these two characters and bringing them together under such great circumstances.

didn't like the hero

I really didn't like the hero. He was shallow and his artistic desire to paint the perfect naked botticelli venus was lame. That he would trick someone to marry him just so he could paint her naked in a painting of other nude women he has slept with was disgusting. I hate how the author tried to make this seem OK because it is art.

Lady Liberated from Lecherous London Lord: Libido Likely Liable

What lessons - and pleasures - lay in store for a young woman pressed into selling her virtue at the hands of a debauched lord? The key to this erotic romance is the asymmetric transition of identity and experience encountered by our heroine, who, up until the end of the first act, has scarcely envisioned the nascent passion of a single kiss, let alone the more carnal pursuits of the bedroom.

The transformation is expressed through the duality of the voyeur and the exhibitionist: the heroine is first exposed to the images of sex through a surreptitious peephole in a bordello - and is discovered by one of the participants mid-coitus, when the peephole is exposed, leaving questions of viewing, identity, and sexual interchangeability worthy of a Calvino novel. This theme is revisited in a more nurturing, tender way via a lover's use of a mirror as he and the heroine experience each other's bodies for the first time.

Both events mark transitions for the heroine and mirror the courage she later musters to stand up to her boorish, domineering brother - who is eager to sell her off to pay gambling debts - and the slimy suitor meant to be the target of the marriage scheme. The themes of sexual liberation and self-determination are strong counterpoints to the regimented Regency era that forms the backdrop of the action and remind us that sex - unapologetic, indulgent, and fully-experienced - can be the spark we need to see ourselves as actors with agency in even the most grim of times.

Another great read from Olivia Waite

From Olivia's previous stories you can tell she has fun writing characters and the world they interact with. This is no exception. Millicent Harbinger is quickly established as the one responsible for keeping the remaining family together and fed. She refuses to let her fate be decided by someone else and quickly acts to make sure this doesn't happen. She's very clever and learns whats she wants and enjoys.

The intimate scenes are written very well and are kept at a good pace. You can tell when the next one is coming and you can't wait to see what happens. The author sometimes gets lost in the Millicent's character and in that way we get to experience what she is going through.

This was a great read and I can't wait to get started on her next book.

Heather Osborne is one of my favorite authors!

I must state that Francine Beaumont-Du Cormier is the most evil woman I have ever "met!" It's no wonder to me why her husband fell in love with her sister. If you are looking for an amazing historical romance novel then look no farther. Bitter Bonds is one of the best and is written by one of my favorite authors. Enjoyed this Story

I loved this book of 19th century Louisiana. It had everything you want in a historical novel of that period: Love, hate, betrayal, infidelity, scandal and redemption. A touch of black magic and murder adds marvelously to the story and plot. It is very well written and fascinating, and the story held my interest from start to finish.

Good read

Riding the tide of society and a need to be accepted by the plantation elite, a man makes a horrid decision. It is a tale of two sisters and a beleaguered man who wants desperately to be recognized. The recognition of the elite is far more costly than he could even imagine. Set in the pre-civil war South this tale gives an insight into the relationship between the slaves and their masters. If you have never stood on a balcony in the heat of a summer night and listened to the drums, this book will give you a taste of that feeling. Good read.

5 Perfectly Aged Stars with a Touch of Voodoo for Bitter Bonds

I adore Ms. Osborne's Rae Hatting mystery series, but I hesitated a while to agree to read and review Bitter Bonds, as I am not a big fan of hitorical romance. Now I am kicking myself as I absolutely adored this story set in Louisiana in the early 1800's about the daughters of a titled plantation owner, an arranged marriage to one of the daughters with the newly monied man who had purchased a nearby plantation. Add in a nice dose of gris gris and other voodoo, and you have an extremely complelling story that I simply could not put down. It was all I could do to put it down for a hour or so of dinner and family time. I rarely get so driven to see a story through so quickly, made even more exceptional by the fact that I am nursing the worst book hangover I have ever had, so I was wondering if I would be able to do any justice to this one at all, but felt it was my duty to give it a try. So much ado about nothing; this one sucked me in almost immediately. It is nearing midnight as I write this, after picking the book up around three this afternoon.

Adrienne could not be a sweeter character, and her older sister Francine could not be more vile.
