Needs editing before it is ready to be an entertaining novel

More editing is needed before this becomes a decent novel. Right now it is a very short story that needs editing. With a little work, this could become quite a nice story. I have enjoyed some of the authorâs other books which use some of the same characters. Right now the storyline follows the basic romance outline: bad guy, female victim, and dashing hero. Five minutes later it is happily ever afterâ It needs time for character development, twists and turns, romance, adventure, and then happily ever after if warranted.

Editing: 74% into the book â âChloe noddedâ. Next paragraph, âDidnât mean to frighten you there, Anna.â The female protagonistâs name changes from Chloe to Anna. That threw me for a loop.

She becomes Anna for the rest of the chapter. Then in the next chapter her name is back to Chloe.

My head is spinning at that point.

Liked this book. Sweet story and great for a quick read.

'Iâm not going to give up now.'

Kent Hamilton offers Chick Lit novels that rather than opening a few paragraphs to get to the boudoir and the steam, opts for a simple gentle romance. And he plays it very well. It is refreshing to read a story that is more about two people getting to know each other through the magic of place and shared interests rather that a relationship built solely on the physical gratification.

It is gratifying to know that an author already established in Chick Lit is able to see that not all romance stories today need to be in the realm of erotica. His three short books in his initial series WITHOUT A HITCH dealt with courtship, marriage, pregnancy and the need for understanding, sensitivity and forgiveness - all tales of couples who find each other and overcome hurdles that test true love. THERE ARE TIMES IN LIFE THAT PATIENCE IS NOT A VIRTUE WHEN DECISIVE ACTION IS CALLED FOR

The story kept me captivated with its mystery and suspense, along with a relationship that is full of angst. Valentine âValâ Calvert, being the second son, went into the military at fifteen years of age. With the passing of his father, his brother George became the Viscount, but now with his sudden death, it falls to Val. Val must marry well, needing the money for the estate that has been left to ruins. A wealthy bankerâs daughter, Rebekah Meadowes could be the answer, but she has a sharp tongue and has shredded countless men before Val. Their relationship before marriage is comical and without heated debates and angry words before a resolution is worked out. Trouble has been in the works at Calverton Estates. The plot twists kept me in constant suspense as the mystery unravels. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The story has many spankings, all well deserved, no sex scenes, and a great storyline.

I've a new favorite author

I think I've a new favorite author. I really love this book. It's so hard to find really good historicals. Well researched and so well written. I love the hero, he is not a fop nor is he mean spirited. Just the right touch. The plot is simply excellent. It's an extra good read. Kudos

Good

Slow beginning but overall enjoyable Regency era romance

This was a very well-written, Regency tale that contained a mystery long with a lovely romance. Val is a former army officer -used to giving orders and being obeyed. Rebekah is a very opinionated young lady who isn't afraid to share her views. The beginning was a bit slow for me - it seemed to take an awfully long time for Val and Becky to meet. When they finally did, the story took off. I liked that Val allowed Becky her opinions but clamped down when she became rude. He was never overly harsh, although I do think punishing her for hiring someone to watch his back was a bit mean. But I loved that all the discipline encounters turned into loving. Very fun story - I'll look forward to reading more from this author

Wonderful!

To sum it up-i loved this book. There were parts where I laughed, where I cried and mostly where I couldn't wait to turn the page! It is a story of romance, forgiveness and hope entwined with a piece of history. Sara Turnquist is a skilled author who makes the past come alive by drawing you into the story.

Historical Gold Mine

Katherine is going home to Cripple Creek, but an event from her past makes the homecoming bittersweet, and her brother's mine is on the verge of changes no one is expecting. Will Katie find hope in the end?

Tbh, this book renewed my love for historical fiction. It just got more interesting as the story progressed (lots of twists & turns). There was so much detail from the time period as well, and I really enjoyed the many layers to the story. As for the romance, it was both emotionally intense and a clean read! I will definitely check out the next book from this author.

Absolutely adored this book! Imagine if you combined When Calls The Heart by Debbie Macomber, Anne of Green Gables, and a Kate Alcott historical, and you've got this delightful story of a girl following her heart, even when it forges into the wild unknown. About halfway through I just started grinning and almost couldn't stop, except a few time when my eyes widened in shock. I couldn't put this one down. Romance, heartache, a headstrong heroine, and some twisty characters who don't know how to keep their hands to themselves, the bunch of them make up the fascinating little town of Cripple Creek, Colorado. The challenges that Katherine faces really spoke to my heart, and I think a lot of women will appreciate the struggle and how she manages it. It's a quick read with great pacing, lovely characters, a fun setting, and I wanted it to be longer. I cannot wait to read another Sara Turnquist novel! Grab this one, you will love it.

What a delightful romance.. Rose the educated daughter of a retired Army officer who owned a horse ranch which raised horses for the army. Rose unlike her sisters who wore pants and rode horses and helped run the ranching part of the ranch, felt she must be more refined dress like a lady in dresses... She desires to marry an officer, but when her sister Lavender and she are rescued by some army soldiers after an accident while driving home from town, she is drawn to one of them who behaves like he should be an officer.. latter she finds out that he is but a lowly private and is torn by her attraction to him and whom she feels she should marry... Will events in their lives draw them together or will Rose be able to give up her dream of marring an officer and give a lowly army private who has secrets of his own a chance to win her heart...

Good read. 2nd book ive read by this author

Rose isn't like her other sister's. They are comfortable wearing unfemine clothing, riding horses with the men, her desires are different she wants a military man with rank, she wants to aid where she is needed. Rose tries to show herself the lady type not tomboy. When something happens and she is rescued by a group of army men, she's attracted to one of them, thinking that he has rank she feels that maybe he's the one to fulfillment dreams. Finding out that he's just a private rank and not of the desired rank she is hoping for, does she decide that her heart knows best and take a chance on this and that it will eventually lead to what she wants in the future? I loved this book just like Sky of Wind featuring Lavender

An officer or a gentleman...

This was a nice story, but very short, and ended abruptly. I felt like if the story had to be so short, that less focus could have been spent on the sisters of the heroine. The beginning of the story focused so much on two sisters that I wasn't sure who the story was for. I also felt it should have been longer, so there could have been more connection between characters so the reader could connect, and also so the ending didn't tie up in the last sentence of the story.

Learning to love. Great read

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book. Lavender she's not the typical woman, she rather the independent type. Not wanting the frilly ways of the woman in this time period. She would be a tomboy by our standards, but dress her up and look out. She is beautiful in anything she wears. Ethan knows she for him and in the long journey that they take on with her father to gather horses he hopes she will fall for him. Read this story and find out if a wild young woman can be tamed to love a man.

A short but sweet story of a headstrong girl thinking love and the feelings of a man are something to play with. Finding out how even an animal is willing to die for it gives her something to think about. I am not a fan of women as callous as the one in this story even if she is young. She does redeem herself at the end though.

Good short read.

Entertaining Story; bad attempt at Old English

Would you try another book from Maryse Dawson and/or Charlie Boswell?

Yes, I found the premise of the story to be quite entertaining and the narrator did a fine job. The unfortunate attempt in writing style to use the Old English was terribly annoying and distracting but cannot obliterate the good writing with respect to the plot and character definition.This is the only book I've read by this author and I look forward to trying others when they become available on audible.com.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Removing the Old English styling attempt would make this an eminently more enjoyable book.

What about Charlie Boswells performance did you like?

I found this narrator's voice to be quite pleasing and easy to listen to.
