These books are my kind of reading. Since we seldom have snow in Texas, I have to curl up with a book that makes me content and warm. You will love them.
    Five Stars
    Love the book. Very good.
    Give this one a pass
I don't normally write reviews for books because there are usually already reviews that confirm my sentiments. However, at the time of this writing there was only one fake 5-star review for this, and this most certainly did not deserve even that.
    *****May contain mild spoilers******
First of all, this story is NOT a regency story. It is a story that happens to be set in regency times where the characters wear regency clothes and throw out a few old-fashioned phrases, but that is all. I'm all for some allowance to suspend belief within a story, but when there are so many things in the story that do not fit with the time there is only so much belief-suspension that can be garnered. Maybe I could have been more forgiving, but the story was not good enough to warrant it. The situations were too implausible, the romance between the H and h way too rushed, and the story itself was very mediocre. In the end, the glaring errors could not be overlooked by the what good there was in the book.
The social mores and conventions of the time were probably not researched much because they were hardly followed. For starters, there was way too much informality between the characters. For example, formal introductions between two people just meeting for the first time are just that--formal. Even in slightly less formal introductions, when introducing oneself, a young man did not introduce himself to a young lady by only his first name. That's really petty, but there were other behaviors like this, and it distracted from the author's effort to make this seem like an actual regency story. Because of the informality of the characters' actions, I often found myself picturing them in a more modern setting in some place like the U.S. rather than in old regency England.
Secondly, I don't think any governess would be treated as nicely as the h was treated. I cannot imagine any employer of that time giving their governess as much free reign of her employer's home and horses or as much free time as she was given (especially not time off to go to a ball where she had to travel to London and stay at an inn), nor would they invite their child's governess and her old governess to join them for tea after the latter two had been frittering away the afternoon working on hairstyles for the ball. (Oh, and she's a governess. Where does she have the money to buy colorful clothes/bonnets/fripperies suitable for balls and general outings? As far as I knew, governesses were mainly resigned to drab colors, like gray, for their simple clothes.) I also doubt the parents would be the ones feeding their child breakfast in the kitchen in the mornings. When having tea, the hostess would certainly not leave guests to go do the dishes.

If you're looking for an escape, this book is a lot cheaper than a vacation! This story-line took so many twist and turns, this book gave me life-literally.Just what I was looking for, a romance with some facets I expected, but also unexpected story points.
Way to short. Lots of other short stories
Sadly disappointed that this was not a full length novel. They get married. Have sex once and its love at first sight. The end.

Wish I would have read this series instead!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the books, but not the audio version. The narrator sounded as if she was reading the text for the first time. She mispronounced several words which was very irritating. Ms Taylor speech was stilted in several passages as if she was reading unfamiliar text for the first time. Her accent was distracting.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The story lines were simple and easy to follow, it is too bad that the stories were so short that the characters could not be expanded on.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Brooke Taylor?
Someone that had more experience in narration. Either Brooke Taylor did not read the text in advance, or she needs to practice the skill of narration more before she narrates another audio book.
Did Frontier Brides inspire you to do anything?
Look at who is narrating the books more closely so I can avoid other books narrated by Brooke Taylor

    The Gift
Another well written short story. The writing really delivers the emotion of what is happening. While we don't know yet if Eli will die, his deterioration is very well described. Having gone through watching my husband turn from a hearty happy man into a weak, almost infant like person, I totally connected with what is happening.
    An Amish romance.
It was very well written with a little suspense. It was very intense. The book was very short, leaving you to not know what happened.

    A Cute Diversion
I enjoyed the characters as they were played out. The book had a decidedly sinister turn at times, BUT what this author did was leave the taste of the things unknown and did not keep her characters mired with past stories. While a bit more might have been appreciated, I was grateful that there were many, many moments to laugh at and found it to be an enjoyable rainy afternoon read.
    Five Stars
This was a wonderful read, and one of my absolute favorite Lucy Ashford romance novels! Very well done!
Nothing that outrageous about this Belle...
...not really. Book was ho hum.. lacked the spark of interest that books by authors such as Loretta Chase, Jo Beverly and some others have for me.
    Charming and well-written...
I bought this book because I got a "New and similar to..." email from Amazon. I'm glad I took the recommendation! This book is charming and well-written and made me look for more books by Miss Ashford.
    The Outrageous Belle Marchmain
Adam Davenant is a successful quarry owner in 1819, who intends shipping best Somerset stone to London via the new Avon canal. He meets a young woman from a local titled family riding on his quarry land; she is displeased with the noisy work, although she knows it gives jobs. But after the long years of war against Napoleon, taxes are high and some of the best families are now penniless....
THE OUTRAGEOUS BELLE MARCHMAIN is a war widow who runs her own dressmaker's shop in London. Her younger brother holds the family estates near Bath and sold the quarry land for a pittance. Edward is not good at managing money and Belle despairs; she is obliged to visit Adam's Mayfair townhouse to ask for a stay on her family's debts. Adam invites other landowners to discuss building a railway with him to transport goods to the burgeoning market in London. Though he has no sympathy for Belle's family, her outrageously colourful clothes and sharp wits capture his imagination.
The changing times are reflected in the stories of the characters - such as Lord Jarvis who has made a fortune from carting and carrying, and is convinced that the newfangled railway engines will blow themselves to bits. Adam makes a rash bet with Jarvis and compels Belle to agree to a temporary betrothal. Each of them sees it as a challenge. Sadler's Wells, Astley's Amphitheatre and Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens are the centres of entertainment, and with everything going well the couple become close. But flamboyant Belle discovers the wager and is furious with Adam, putting herself in danger from the unscrupulous Jarvis.
Lucy Ashford kept me reading due to the unusual, well-rounded characters, a long way from innocent misses at their first ball, or gambling rakes, in this interesting tale.

I bought this story because, at 3 dollars and 31 pages, I figured "why not?" It wouldn't cost me anything and it might be a fun diversion. My past experiences with cheap kindle books have been hit or miss and I didn't expect much this time around. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The plot is fairly typical for the genre but quickly paced, which I appreciated, with a few laughs thrown in to boot. The spunky female characters were also a nice switch from the typical damsel-in-distress trope. However, the real stars of this story were the romantic scenes. They were sizzling, creative, and really envelop the reader in the action.
I hope to see more of Miranda and Cory in the future.
