My favorite of the series so far!

OH MY HAWKE, THIS BOOK! THIS BOOK!!!! *more flailing*

This is the book I've been waiting for all series long. I knew I would love it as soon as I read the dedication. I am ded. Ded of such good feels I thought impossible in this series' world.

Okay, I'm going to try to make a little sense here. Try being the key word

I've loved each subsequent book in this series more than the last, and that's something that's very difficult to pull off in any kind of series, let alone something as unique as the St. Croix Chronicles. Cherry has her ups and downs, and, let's be honest, has far more downs than she has ups. And we haven't seen her truly "up" for a while. The darkness we came off of from Tempered was brilliantly lifted in Engraved. And this is by no means a "light" book, but it has Cherry coming to a lot of realizations about herself and the people around her. And I couldn't be more proud of her.

Cherry is such a fascinating character. And a most amazing protagonist. She is called selfish more than once, by many characters, and it's very true. But it's handled so expertly by Karina Cooper that even in Cherry's darkest moments of opium addiction, a reader can truly never dislike Cherry. And I really loved seeing this sober side of Cherry. It's a new one, and watching her struggle (and come out on top) is something I really enjoyed. She always remains sympathetic and likable. Always. No matter how much she screws up or does something both she and the reader know is wrong, I can't help but love her.

And speaking of that pesky emotion...OH MY HAWKE.

Seriously.

HAWKE.

THIS BOOK.

There are still many mysteries about Hawke (who is my other favorite character, if you can't guess), but Engraved reveals several things about him, the Veil, and alchemy. And I loved every second of it. My heart is SOARING from the final scene. THANK YOU KARINA. THANK YOU.

If you are at all interested in Steampunk, science fiction, the magic of a demented circus, alchemy, or amazing world building and characters, read this series. Now. But from the beginning.

A good continuation of the series

This series is getting better, both in the characterization and the writing. The first book or two I slogged through the punctuation, repetitive phrasing, and typographical errors because I rather enjoyed the story.

Sweet, Adventurous Western read

Gem Sivad is one of my favorite authors and her storytelling style is so enjoyable for me to read. I liked this little novella and I liked all the sexual tension in it. Just to be clear, there is no sex in this story, but there is plenty of tension throughout their interactions. What kept this from being 5 stars for me was the actions at the end seemed hurried. The novella was the right length, it was just not as full as it could have been. I would have liked to seem some of the events fleshed out a little more. Good story, though, and I've always had a soft spot for Edge and River since Six Sentence Sunday. :)

Sweet, Fun Read

This book was really cute, fun, and for me a quick read. Edge I just fell in love with him, "I'd rather peeping-toms didn't watch me bathe. It appears we all get disappointed sometimes." River I just loved her as well, "I'm out sketching today," she told him, waving at her satchel. "I brought you fresh bread." The two things had nothing to do with each other other. She was a nincompoop." This book was so light hearted. Amos he was a sweetheart as well, "hell, I know that. It's River I'm worried about. She looked at you over Sunday dinner like you're a dollop of ice cream she wants to have for dessert. Don't give into her. Don't let her have a lick until she buys the cow."

River's Edge

A sweet love story; not exceptional but short enough to keep me reading without dropping off to sleep. River Prescott is a lady rancher who likes to draw and has sold some of her drawings to help keep her ranch up and make improvements. She meets her neighbor, Edge Grayson, when he strips naked and bathes in a stream nearby where she is drawing. She is taken by his good looking body and artist (or voyeur)that she is,she proceeds to draws him. Edge has a sad past and lost puppy dog present that makes you glad River is attracted to him; she starts out by feeding him and proceeds to offer him money if he will pose for her. River is bossy but Edge is happy to overlook that characteristic just to have somebody feed him, not to mention the physical reaction he has every time he's around River.

EDGE AND RIVER, LOVED IT.... HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

WOW, I loved this sweet story. It has allot of emotions for the reader, very well written. Great cast of characters too, I look forward to reading more in this series. River is an artist, who is sure she will never marry, she comes across her new neighbor as he is fixing a fence and spys on him most of the day as she draws him. Edge has a bad past as a gun slinger which he wants to leave in his past.

Gritty mix of fact and fiction.

Wasn't sure where this book was going at the start, the narrator gives it a very Philip Marlow'esque atmosphere which is in fact just right for the sort of story that unfolds. A mixture of detective story, romance and oddly enough some paranormal goings on are tied in with the real world development of the Manhattan Project during World War Two which gives the whole plot a degree of surreal realism. I just had to keep listening. If I had read the book I would be describing it as a page turner. What's more there are clearly more books to come - can't wait.

Great narration, I loved the concept, and the story kept me entertained. I have visited Oak Ridge TN (not the set for this book, but the government created a town for the building of the bomb in this location too) and the research in this story was plain to see - while being blended creatively with the supernatural -- fascinating!

Great story, Great Storyteller!

What did you love best about Chain Reaction?

There were 3 main reasons why I loved Chain Reaction:

1) The incredibly accurate historical references to places and people were like a snapshot from a day in history.

2) The gritty Film noir style voices the narrator made this tale come alive with.

3) The plot twists that just kept coming and coming, and throwing more and more people with special abilities together. It was like having the Avengers, the Nazis, MI6, and the X-Men in the 1940's WWII Era all converging on Eckhart Hall... and the people responsible for the atomic bomb.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Chain Reaction?

One of the most memorable moments of Chain Reaction was the fire. For any who may have felt that the fire which consumed Acme Truck Rentals in Chapter Thirteen was a convenient but not-too-likely event that enabled the authors to put unfair pressure on Jordan Pierce, this fire actually did take place on October 2, 1942the very date the

story takes place. I'm only sorry Jordan Pierce wasn't there to save those brave men.

Which character as performed by Robert Coltrane was your favorite?

Without a doubt - Jordan Pierce. Robert brought Jordan Pierce to life with reads that totally embodied the "film noir" & "hard-boiled" feel for this Sci-Fi & Romance Thriller. I kept thinking of a young Ray Liotta as a 1940's detective in a trench coat... who also happened to be learning how to deal with his new found Vampiric powers.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The fire scene was very moving and was based on history. An acetylene welding torch started a 5-11 alarm fire at the Acme Truck Rentals garage on S Wells Street in Chicago, when a spark from the torch ignited a section of the garage's wooden wall.

A Clean, Okay Story

Faith Walker has always wanted to marry for love, not convenience and comfort. Her parents, especially her father, have other ideas however. Thinking she at least wants some adventure, she chooses to answer a mail order bride advertisement instead of marrying the man theyâve picked out for her. Will this be better than marrying someone she'll never love and who doesn't really love her?

This is a 120-page novella. I would not call this âa full-lengthâ romance. Although I donât particularly like first person point of view, the first part of the novel held my attention, but the last part felt rushed, vague, and didnât let the reader see a relationship develop. It was almost as if the author didnât know how to handle the story once things began to work out. In addition, I didnât like that some important details were skipped altogether. For example, there are only horses and buggies, but no dates given, and the language sounds rather modern. Faithâs family home is back East, but thatâs all weâre told. It is a clean novella. With a little more effort, and the last part fleshed out, this could be a much better story. As it is, however, itâs just okay.

Not believable

The author had a good story but it was not developed well enough for me to really get involved. I found Faith to be rather silly and illogical. Why would she be angry with her parents for encouraging a stranger to court her, and then marry a stranger far from her family? Because if she can't have love, she want's adventure? I don't buy it.

Still Waiting for the Spark

I agree with all the negative reviews. This started out really good and I could overlook some of the stuff like they lived on a farm and had no milk cow or anything besides turnips to eat. Little Minnie should have had so many health issues like ricketts and Roy worked hard and only ate turnips; the man must have been skin & bones. I was really feeling for Faith at the train robbery and when she saw the wedding she signed up for and cold stare from Roy; feeling maybe her father was right. I was waiting for the spark between her and Roy even briefly but it never happened. All that happened was negative I was thinking she left the safety of her home because she wanted to marry for love but what was the difference between Roy and Mr Bryson. I felt cheated out of what led up to the happily ever after.

Heart warming WWII love story

Torn by the Sun is a Historical Romance that begins pre WWII in San Francisco, and then takes us all the way thru the wars' end. Honestly, I was surprised at how deeply I reacted to the story. I feel I have to share Jesse and Keiko's story with you, along with my thoughts on the whole matter. Lets begin with a short rundown of what their story is about...

Keiko and her family are of Japanese decent who live and work in San Francisco. Her parents own and operate the best Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. They are honorable people that keep to themselves. Jesse is your typical All American young man who works at his uncles realty office near Keiko's restaurant. Jesse lives with his widowed mother and enjoys the single life, until he meets Keiko. Keiko notices right away that Jesse is taken with her. Keiko's father also notices, and commands that she no longer visit with Jesse when he comes by for lunch. See, Keiko's daddy is not down with her dating a non-Japanese boy! So the sneaking around begins, lol. I did say short rundown, didn't I? Sorry! Jesse and Keiko are put through a lot from the beginning of their relationship, with the US Government screwing the Japanese residents over, and how this affects Keiko and her family's lives.

This story has a lot of historical accuracy in it, which brought to light some things for me. I did not know this is how it was for the Japanese residents, and frankly it upset me. I was outraged at the living conditions of the camps their own government, forced the Japanese into after the war started.

An Outlawâs Heart : A Southern Love Story

I throughly enjoyed An Outlawâs Heart , a western southern love story by Shelley Shepard Gray. If you are a big fan of western, then you do not want to miss out on this one. Gray grabs your attention right at the start and holds onto you till the end. When I started reading An Outlawâs Heart I did not want to put it down till I finished. Gray writes these page turners , you cannot read and turn the pages fast enough to see what will happen next. There was a few times I caught myself holding my breath. I loved the two main characters , Russell and Nora. I felt sorry for both of them. Russell was sent away from his home at an early age. What could he do, to young to do anything? Later he joined an outlaw gang. Nora was the girl he loved and left behind. He was betrayed by the two women in his life that he loved. Does he have anything to go back home to after seven years ? Will he be welcomed back home or sent away again? I loved this story and the characters. I felt like I was right there with them.

An Outlaws Heart

This was a short book but I enjoyed it, really a conclusion to the series of the heart of hero's. Read the other three books first then read this book it bring it all together. Good book.

A delightful quick read

This was a delightful quick read. I fell in love with Russell and Nora. I loved the message of forgiveness and emotional healing. It is well written and one I know I will want to read again.

Great!

I truly and thoroughly enjoyed Shelley Gray's western series and wished she would write more in that genre. She writes mostly Amish fiction and I am not a fan, so when I saw this, I was absolutely delighted! She goes back to the western series and tells Russell's story, who was a member of the Walton Gang.

Russell comes home to find his mother dying and the girl he loved seeing a preacher now. Well, things are not always what they seem. I can't say more. I loved Russell's character. Gray's descriptions and sometimes comedic turn is absolutely fabulous! I seriously wish she'd write more westerns. Loved this~

Good Read

I enjoyed this short story. If you like sweet western romance novels, you will like this interesting book. The two main characters, Russell and Nora were very like able. It was a story of second chances.

An unique, enjoyable and satisfying read!

HEART OF ICE by Sibelle Stone is a unique Victorian Gothic Historical romance with a variety of other genres included. Such as Steampunk, Paranormal, and Supernatural elements.

Meet, Lucinda Stafford, a a strong, determined, independent, Governess, in need of a job and Grayson Throne,a revolutionary inventor, geothermal (he is trying to use steam to make electricity) and he is in need of a Governess for his two young children, Mair and Niels.

While, Grayson is trying to improve his Geothermal Plant, some is out to stop him.

Well written with engaging,interesting characters and a unique, intriguing storyline. It is a steady paced tale filled with a uniqueness, and a bit of suspense. Not just another Governess and Gentleman.

With danger lurking, passionate embraces, an inventor, a huge, dark secret, two smart, but sad young children, a Governess, an apparition, a legend, and romance, a reader will be filled with wonder and lost in a vortex of discovery. It was OK

The supernatural aspect of the book played little part in the story, and frankly I think could have been left entirely out.

The heroine was a wealthy, young woman who had been staying abroad with an aunt. Her stepmother was busily trying to get her married off. The stepmother wasn't an evil woman -- just a bit of a social climber as she had been an actress before marrying the heroine's father. However the heroine wanted to prove she could look after herself, and she really had no romantic feelings for the man the stepmother picked out. So she gets her aunt to write a letter of recommendation. The heroine travels to Iceland as she wants to see a volcano and finds employment as a governess.

The hero is a busy fellow, working on harnessing on geothermal power. His wife had lost her sense of reality and committed suicide.

This is a lovely and interesting romance that keeps your attention. The attraction between Adelaide and Vickers is believable and super romantic. I was quickly brought into the story and could not put it down. Elizabeth Klett is a fantastic narrator and makes the characters interesting and believable. A great audible book!

A Waltz in the Park by Deb Marlowe is a fantastic novella that was hard to put down. Not ever having read or listened to any other Half Moon House book, or any other book by Deb Marlow for that matter, I wasn't sure what to expect. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for a review and was pleasantly surprised with this complete story and loved both lead characters who were well developed. At almost four hours, it's the perfect length.

Adelaide Stockton is the pinnacle of propriety who is on the marriage mart after her mother's death and father's abandonment. James Vickers hates his father because of his poor treatment of women and believes him to be a traitor to the Crown. Because of his father's position and past misdeeds, James does everything to make his father look bad, including acting scandalously and pretending to be the worst sort of rake. Adelaide and James first find themselves glancing at each other across a crowded ballroom, then confiding in each other in order to obtain proof of his father's treachery, and finally waltzing together in the park by the end of the book. I loved the ending!

Elizabeth Kletts narration is simply fantastic. She really brought the characters to life, giving each character their own distinct voice. She was very believable and helped me become totally engrossed in the story. I can't wait to read my next book by Deb Marlowe and narrated by Elizabeth Klett!
