My favorite so far by this author

After Alice's mother is accused and hanged as a witch, Alice herself is in jeopardy. Until a friend of the family rescues her by marrying her. Being a great deal older then her their marriage is in name only. Even still they have a happy marriage. But when he dies five years later his protection to her comes to an end. If she doesn't leave for the new world of America she will probably suffer the same fate as her mother. Her husband planned for her to marry Christopher Gunn, a man she does remember from the past. But the man she meets doesn't resemble the man she remembers from her past. Will she choose him anyway or will she look to Jonathan Hargrave, another man who is interested. Not to mention that if she doesn't marry Christopher, Ishani would gladly take her place. This historical romance unfolds over the events surrounding war with the Indians as well as the Salem Witch trials. A historical romance full of both history and romance. I quite enjoyed reading the journey that both Christopher Gunn and Alice Hargrove experienced over the course of the book.

Content needs editing - not proofreading

While it was refreshing to read a book that wasn't full of errors, this book was just too long. I think editing out about 200 pages would help. The female protagonist was absolutely irritating, and stayed that way. I commend the author for her effort, but based on this book, I wouldn't suffer through another story like this one.

Unremarkable

This could have been a four star book for me had it not been for the lengthy descriptions. I'm one that enjoys good descriptors that take the reader into the story, but this was too much, even for me. I thought the h was too whiny and couldn't ever make up her mind. Too many times she changed her mind about something for no reason. I don't know how the husband could stand it.

The other thing that didn't do much for me was that there were so many things going on with her. **POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT** It felt like the author had to get as much in as she could. The part about the h living with the Natives was too over the top. And then the part about her involvement in the witch trials felt like a last minute addition just to get more to happen to her.

Good story, but it didnt need all the intimate details between the main characters.

Really fun reading!

I loved the characters and the storyline. If the outcome was a bit predictable, good! Easy reading.

The Titanic Series was great reading

I enjoyed all the Titanic Series, whished there were more to read. They are exciting in a relaxed way. I had troble putting them down. Enjoy yourself and have a travel to a different day and time.

It had almost nothing to do with the Titanic other than them meeting on the ship.I would have enjoyed it more if they talked more about the sinking of the ship as they met.

This book was not to my liking it was too religious for my taste. It seemed to be mostly Bible/scripture readings and very little actual story. In fact the 2 main characters do not meet until close to the end of the book. The 'romance' part is very far fetched, they meet, marry that same day, he is rude to her and then all of a sudden that night they discover they love each other... the end. Very abrupt end. I would have liked more story between the 2 of them, and show how they actually get to like each other and discover they do love each other and want to start a new life.

Having read and loved Tainted Lillies, I was anxious to read another by Weyrich.

This is the story of Desiree La Fleur. It begins in 1885 when she is seven and her mulatto nurse flees Desireeâs drunken father with Desiree and her infant sister, Innocente. In the swamps they become separated and Desiree is recaptured by her fatherâs men. We donât learn much of her youth after that except she is taken home and though she has a stepmother who has no love for her, Desiree is educated in the East. In 1899, when she is 21, she decides to take the money she gained from a writing contest and join her best friend, Nanine, in New Orleans.

As soon as she gets off the train, Desiree is mistaken for a woman named âGarnetâ who, she later learns, is a prostitute living in âStoryville,â the red lantern district of New Orleans. Itâs âthe scarlet threadâ on Basin Street. Right then I realized, even if Desiree did not, that sheâd found her long lost sister.

Meanwhile Nanine plots to match Desiree with Dr. Roman St. Vincent, dubbed âthe saint of Storyvilleâ for the help he gives to the young prostitutes. And the prostitute named Garnet is in love with him. Two sisters both in love with the same man. Because of their beginnings, one is ostensibly good and the other a fallen woman, raised to believe she is a woman of color when she is not.

Neither Desiree nor Roman want marriage but decide, at their early encounter, to pretend they are engaged to appease Nanine and her husband in whose home Desiree lives.

Weyrich writes well and tells a good story so, of course, I was sucked in from the start. There were lots of improbable twists and turns but once I got over that, I had to find out if this smart girl was really going to be so dumb as to do some of the things she did. And what of Garnet who really loves Roman but who he thinks of as a young sister? And then there is this âripperâ guy who goes around killing prostitutes. Ah, yes, lots to think about. And did I mention itâs a bodice ripper?

The Scarlet Thread

Enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to those who like reading an entertaining, action pack story with a good plot, intrigue, humor and a little spice.

The Tennessee Neely family traveled West under great obstacles. Samantha "Sam" protected her family since they were in search of her father, Emmanuel. Sloan Talbott's life was saved by Samantha on several occasions but he did not want women on his mountain and voiced it often. Life took some twists and turns that made Sloan admit who he really was and how he felt about Samantha. Great love story.

LOVED IT!!!

Wonderful, memorable characters. Strong, intelligent, independent heroine and maddening, alpha male hero. Held my interest. Wil be looking for more of this author's books!

Rollicking Good Fun

Emmanuel Neely is a free-spirited inventor who has a strong sense of wanderlust. In his absence, the eldest daughter Samantha has always taken care of her mother and her twin sisters. The family has left their war-decimated Tennessee for California; Emmanuel has written to tell them of their new home in the Sierra Mountains.

However, when they arrive in the town of Talbott, they meet the awful owner of the town (and everything in it) -- Sloan Talbott. He has one ironclad rule -- absolutely no women. The Neely's are not particularly impressed with no. They decide they must stay in Talbott until Emmanuel comes back.

Samantha dresses in trousers and shoots better than most men. It doesn't take long for Sam and Sloan lock horns. I don't really want to tell too much more about the story; it is fun and funny (Sloan and Samantha are evenly matched). The reason this book did not receive a 5-star rating had to do with the ending. During the last few chapters, a major character is injured and the author used a device that seemed fairly pointless. I thought it really damaged the overall quality of the novel. Overall, the story is a delight.

Lust Was the Only Thing They had in Common

This was one of the most unusual frontier novels that I have ever read. I really enjoyed it because I just didn't know what to expect next.

Sloan Talbott was the king of his mountain and the absolute ruler of his town until a red-headed tomboy named Sam and her mother and sisters moved into his private domain. He couldn't drive them away, so he tried other means of ridding his town of these independent females.

The only thing he and Sam have in common is lust for each other, until things take an unusual turn of events.

Good story. Well done.

Very good, very touching

There must have been a lot of dust around when I read this, because I got a lump in my throat about three paragraphs in and it stayed there the whole way through. This novel is a superb evocation of small-town America on the eve of the Great War, and of our naive but determined heroine's adventures running a soup kitchen for soldiers just behind the front lines. Rinehart's prose is perfect, and although the heroine is perhaps a bit too good, Belgian officer Henri and her fiance back home, Harvey, are well-drawn and very much alive.

World War I Love Story

This story dates itself in regard to the relations between men and women and their roles. You can tell it was written early in the 20th century and for a female audience. Although the main character,a woman, does break out of her traditional role, she is still very much the "type" who would stay at home and do as she was told. Her personality seems rather submissive while her actions are those of a much more liberated spirit. In this respect, the story doesn't quite ring true and is more of a wish fulfillment fantasy. The western front of WWI is merely a setting for this unlikely romance to play out. Far more interesting than the relationship part of the book are the accounts of what it was like on the front during World War I and the activities of soldiers, citizenry and the men who performed espionage operations. Apparently, the author, Mary Roberts Rinehart, was a war correspondent on the Belgian front during World War I, so this provides the only notes of verisimilitude in the story. So she certainly did know what it was like to be a woman doing a job in a place were women were usually not likely to be. Worth reading for that alone.

Loved this book!!

I've got so many books on my kindle that sometimes I forget to read the older stuff. I am very happy that I happened upon this book. I think I've read Mary Roberts Rinehart before and picked up several of her books at once. This story really affected me. I loved Sara Lee and her determination to help even though it wasn't "her fight". She was very strong although as often as possible she was depicted as passive. But when she finally allowed herself to think for herself and not worry about other people's opinions, She matured into a lovely giving woman. I have often, in these days of war and worries, wished I could do something to help like she did. She was selfless and willing to go all out to help the Belgian people. I wish I were as Brave as she was and not as cynical and self-defeating as I am. She is an inspiration even in these modern times.

Good medieval romance set in Scotland

This book was quite all right. The beginning is very exciting, with a thrilling and dramatic rescue at sea. The first half of the book is very entertaining but the second half not so much. The characters are very good though. Nevertheless, I felt that there were some loose ends and not all aspects of the character's pasts are well developed, for example the hero's dead wife and the circumstances of her death and the way it impacted on the hero's character.

Notwithstanding, I wold recommend this scottish medieval romance since I enjoyed reading it.

This is the story of two main characters who both bear scars, one more obvious. In a gripping suspence story set in Medieval times they have to overcome almost impossible odds.But the reward is worth the journey you would want to share with these extraordinary people.

I enjoy her stories nonsensical, easy reading

It begins with a rescue from the sea.

Isobel and Marc are distrustful strangers; though they are enemies sworn to protect each other. Will M betray and lead an army against I and her clan, or will he save her? This story is quite an adventure!

A nice story

I really like Sophia James but this was one of her weaker stories. It was a fun read but not up to some of her other stories.

A different narrator is badly needed. This sounds like a text book being read.
