    Arranged Marriage Unwanted
Anna is upset that she's being forced to marry Irving, a man she has never met. And Irving doesn't desire to settle down. But after spending a few days with each other, they decide maybe marriage wouldn't be so bad after all. The end.
That's pretty much the entire story. As another reviewer said, there's no sub plot, no character development. The reader isn't even told why Anna's being forced to marry Irving. The author provides no character history.
Overall, a boring and juvenile story. Wasn't worth my time to read for free, certainly not worth the three bucks the author is asking for.
    Four Stars
Easy reading and enjoyed the book.
    Amazing
I never thought it will be a nice , romantic story. It was something different, but wonderful. VD Cain did a great job.
Congratulations. Love it. Enjoy it a lot.
    Boring. Ok for subteens.
This book is written like an imaginary fairy tale, a subject of daydreams. No subplot to add intrigue. Basically, to the adult reader, it is boring.
This story was better written than a lot of the ones I read ...
One thing that bugged me was the use of the word "reign" for the word "rein" when speaking about the horses and riding. This story was better written than a lot of the ones I read here on Amazon.

    Publisher's Summary:
    Eve was a handful.
She had a temper that could spook a cavalry horse, and she had never been tamed. Until her father's marriage brought a new stepmother and her son into the house.
Theo wouldn't be around for long. Officers in Her Majesties Navy rarely were. They came and went with the trade winds. One month. That's all they have.
A man of discipline and order, Theo knows how to battle insubordination on board a sailing vessel. But Eve? Her defiance brings her to the brink of mutiny, and he finds himself on the ledge between brute and gentleman. Her ferocity calls to inner beast, but to hell with her unholy fits.
Eve also balances on a ledge - somewhere between childhood tantrums and womanhood. A father who treats her like a sheltered child, and a new man in her life who pushes her to be a special brand of lady. The kid gloves and sewing clubs of genteel society have never appealed to her rebellious streak, but what Theo desires in a lady? That she is irresistibly drawn to.
Is it the heavy hand or the gentle touch which draws in an officer's lady?
Who will tame whom in this Victorian-era battle of the wills?
    Members Reviews:
    Great reads.
In book combines 'Taming Her Temper: Forced Submission Domestic Discipline Kindle Edition' and the bonus story 'Claiming Mae: Historical Victorian Forceful Men' by Rayann Kendal .
'An Officer's Lady' actually gives you a complete story for 'Taming Her Temper'. I enjoyed it. It basically about step brother and step sister taboo relationship, but it is pretty unique. Step brother is in the navy and is on break. During break things occur that changes their relationship. It was well written and I loved that this book had complete story to it. Steamy parts are on both versions.
The bonus story is the same one that you can find under Rayann Kendal "Claiming Mae". The notes from author does state something about finishing it into sweet love story. Yes!!!! Please finish the story and I would easily buy that version with full ending and all.
You also get sneak peak at "Claiming His Ward". That one can be bought complete under 'Claiming His Ward: Historical Victorian Taboo'
by Randi Stepp and Rayann Kendal. That one was great read as well, but this story only has teaser.
Anyway, this was worth it for me to buy this book since I got two stories I enjoyed; original and bonus story 'Claiming Mae'. Both steamy reads. I really hope author does complete 'Claiming Mae' because I would enjly reading full story to that bonus read.
    Alright
Being short stories there was little to build anticipation .
I did t feel as though I had time to connect with the characters.
The world building was OK, but the story lacked substance .
    Different
Short but good different and I'm sure your read will love it. But I like a little more story to my happy reading it really a good shot story. Continue success DH from New York City
My favorite kind of naughty but sweet historical
I'm no writer, but I had to convey how much I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The writing is exceptional and allows the reader to truly in vision all that happening. I look forward to reading more from this author. Well done.

    Publisher's Summary:
Tony Andrisoi is an Italian born in Palermo, Sicily during the Nazi occupation. He travels back and forth between Italy and the US with his adoptive parents. He has a music career in Italy and attends St. Joseph College in the United States. His parents are wealthy business owners of several leather shops in major cities of Europe and the United States. Tony falls relentlessly in love with Sophie Carrieri. So much so, he wants her to live with him in Italy after graduation.
Sophie Carrieri is an Italian-American. She lives in her parents' house but in a private attic apartment. She also goes to St. Joseph College where she meet Tony. She adores Tony, maybe even loves him. Nevertheless, she is relentless in her desire to attend Cornell Graduate School and become a veterinarian. Her one flaw in Tony's eyes is that she has a never ending streak of jealousy. Other than that, she is beautiful, honest, and sexy.
Will their relationship withstand living apart for four years on different continents, three mothers, and the sexual revolution of the 1960s?
    Members Reviews:
A book with promise but not there yet
Tony and Sophie meet in their senior year at a Catholic college in 1964 in New Jersey and fall helplessly in love. What follows is all their lovey-dovey talk between them, with Sophie in particular teasing and playing games with Tony, who remains a perfect gentleman.
After graduation, Tony goes back to Italy to become a pop music sensation, while Sophie goes on to veterinary school. They work to maintain their long-distance relationship.
Most of the book came across as repetitive and tedious, but there was one scene in particular that really gripped me. In having surgery to remove a cyst from her uterus, Sophie ends up having to have to whole uterus removed, and she agonizes over having lost what makes her a woman, fearing that Tony will no longer want her because they can't have children. This scene had me in years, both for Sophie and myself, as it caused me to relive my own grief over not being able to have children of my own. The author showed her real writing skills in this chapter.
The narration made a big difference in the book. At first I did not enjoy it very much because it came out as staccato and immature, but I soon realized that this was the writing style of the author. Since the chapters are narrated by Sophie and Tony, the style fits their style, and the narrator does a great job of portraying them, especially their accents. I also liked the way she voiced the sound effects in the books.
Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this book by the narrator, but it in no way influenced my review.

    Publisher's Summary:
She is safe, and she is free...but she is still alone. In the second chapter of the Grace in Africa series, slavers burst into Grace Winslow's life with guns blazing and tear her family apart forever. She watches in anguish as her husband is led in chains aboard a tightly packed slave ship bound for America. An old enemy has a more sinister plan for Grace and prepares her for a different kind of servitude in London. But Grace will not be enslaved. And she will not give up on the man she loves. In her determination to be reunited with her husband, she finds God reaching out to her.
    Members Reviews:
    Starts implausibly
I know that after reading this book I'm supposed to be aghast at the horrors of slavery, and I am -- don't get me wrong -- but the main thing I kept thinking in the beginning of the book was this:
Why, why, why did a whole village choose to live in the shadow of a slavery fortress? Yeah, the place was closed down, but how much effort would it require for slavers to return and take over their fort? I mean, these people themselves had been slaves in that fortress. Why did they stay anywhere in the vicinity? The answer: These are only moderately-well written characters, not real people. Any real person would have had enough sense to 1) move far, far away -- no matter what the difficulty. or 2) move into the fort themselves and use the fortifications to protect themselves. Really, who would choose to live next to a lion's den or a nest of snakes?
    Goes deep, makes you think
History matters. Not just the dates and the what-happened facts. Not just the famous names who made their marks on important documents. Ordinary people also contributed to our history--people who saw the need for change, who stood for justice when it wasn't popular to do so, who never gave up the cause for freedom. Kay Marshall Strom draws wonderful word pictures of people like these in her Grace in Africa series. Yes, of course her characters are fictional--but they are born out of painstaking research, out of passion, and out of a desire to communicate present-day conditions through stories of past struggles.
The second book in the Grace in Africa series, Voyage of Promise, gives the reader an almost too-close experience on board a slave ship bound for England in the late 1700s. Being in the mind and heart of a man living this horror will change you. Our story's heroine, Grace Winslow--the estranged daughter of an African princess and a British slave ship owner--believes she will be reunited with Cabeto, her African husband, in London and live a life of happiness together, in spite of the murder of their son and being ripped away from all they knew and loved in Africa. Little does she know her husband is bound for the Americas--and no one in London, not even her own father, is interested in helping her. She unknowingly becomes embroiled in an unpopular anti-slavery movement, which turns sour and puts her in harms way--a place she has become rather used to. Grace is determined, resourceful--and, yes, sometimes impulsive and foolhardy. But she represents what is best in those who truly care about making a difference in our world. And she believes that she, like the biblical Queen Esther, was born "for such a time as this."
If you love historical fiction, you will love this series.

When Isabelle Bishop is forced to marry a much older man at the demand of her father, she takes matters into her own hands to escape. She runs away to Nevada to be a mother to a child she has never met. Before he became Sheriff of Rock Creek, Louis "Chayton" Dreyfus had to deal with prejudice and judgment on a daily basis, simply because he was different. He finally proves himself to the entire town and the judgmental stares were replaced with friendly smiles.
Nine months after the tragic death of his beloved wife, Louis still mourns her death, and has a difficult time raising his daughter, Maska, on his own. He makes a bold move by placing an ad for a mother for Maska in the famous Matrimony Times and Isabelle Bishop enters his life.
When a dreadful fire destroys Chayton's house, he badly injures his face, leaving Isabelle in the dark about his physical appearance. If beauty is only skin deep, will the secret that Chayton had kept from Isabelle break them apart?
Or will Isabelle see past his physical appearance and love him for who he is on the inside, rather than what he looks like on the outside? And can Isabelle give his daughter the love and care she desperately needs?
A wonderful clean and wholesome story from Emma Ashwood, with suspense and romantic interest that will keep her avid fans enthralled until the revelations come in a surprising finale.

Isabelle Bishop is of marriageable age but she doesn't want to end up in a loveless marriage to a man just like her father
Found and adopted and raised by the Dreyfus family after his parents were killed by bandits, he was also a widower, with a half breed daughter in need of a mother figure in her life, so he placed a singles ad for a mail order bride. A Mother Search
What a beautiful short story! The characteristics of each person were so clearly described that this reader felt she knew each one and loved most of them. My heart was breaking for the heroine, but she handled everything perfectly. Emma Ashwood is a gifted author and I eagerly await another of her novelettes. I have no reservations in recommending this book for the whole family.

In the middle of all this commotion, a certain Lady Carruthers and her daughter Arabella come to stay at the hotel. Lady Carruthers is a widow trying to pass herself off as much younger than she actually is. To this end, she dresses poor Arabella, who is all of 19, as a young schoolgirl and refuses to bring her out. It is up to the poor relations to deal with the lazy Mrs. Budge, find Arabella a husband, and trounce her terrible mother!

This series is wonderful, the book dramatic and humorous
I enjoyed reading this so much! I could barely put it down. I had to find out what was going to happen next. I'm excited for the next book in the series. The characters are wonderful and unique. I recommend this book to people who like romance with a surrounding cast of interesting characters and the romance is a part of the story, not the whole story.
    Fun historical romances
Sir Philip is the rascal in the Poor Relations business venture, and as always, his exploits create opportunities for romance to blossom!
    Fascinating Read!
Description: A tale full of scheming, deception, greed and romance. The owners of the Poor Relation hotel conspire to evict a vulgar leech of a guest while also attempting to help a young lady escape her mother's control and win over the man of her dreams.
You will find yourself transported to London in the early 1800s, engrossed in a story with a lot of twists and turns. Watch as this diverse cast schemes to unmask a gold digger and make a name for their hotel. This book is full of subterfuge and humor.
In Short: This is a thoroughly entertaining book. The characters are all unique and fascinating. The story is fast paced and full of intrigue. The ending is satisfying and leaves no loose ends untied.
Pros: Although this book is the 4th in the Poor Relation series it stands alone well and doesn't leave you hanging in the end. This book will make sense to you even if you have not read any of the other books in the series. This book has a fun, fast paced story. With no fluff it makes for a quick entertaining read.
Cons: The kindle edition has a lot of words smashed together and in one part of the book there is a block of text missing. I don't know if these problems exist in any other versions of the book. The words run together likethis interrupted the flow of reading but because I was so engrossed in the story I didn't dwell on the typos and just kept reading!

The Poor Relations Inn/Boarding place is doing better than ever this season. A 19 year old young lady and her mother, an actor, Miss Tonks, Sir Phillips' unsavory woman, an earl and more all make a wonderful new adventure for the owners of the Poor Relations
    Story was ok
But the Kindle version was badly done.

    A Fun Series
This is another entry in Ms. Chesney's series of parodies of Regency-ers novels, in this case The Poor Relations series. They are all written in a spirit of fun and often more than a bit far fetched but that is part of their charm. Like the others, it details the attempts of one of the "Poor Relations", penniless gentry, to find money to keep their mutually owned hotel afloat. While they're at it they usually manage to find a suitable marriage for some distressed (but beautiful and intelligent) young woman. The basic notion is that several penniless members of the minor nobility, tiring of their parlous state decide to open a hotel. This of course means that they have "gone into trade". This is a horrible fate that threatens to worsen their already tenuous social standing (status being all important during that period). All this leads to series of tong in cheek romps that are good fun if not tone taken seriously.
    A solid read
This book was a trifle sadder than previous installments in tone. The plot was not as intricate as books 3 and 4 but the heroine was amusing and her Hero tolerable if a tad two dimensional. I had high hopes for Jason Davy, but I just don't know after finishing this one. This book felt a little like a transitional book between 4 and 6 rather than standing on its own. But it is well-written, the recurring characters were on their mettle and the Prince once again favored the hotel. A pleasing read. Highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
Great series from start to finish.
I have really enjoyed this series. I have read a few of Ms. Beaton's from start to finish. I enjoyed all the characters in the book. The action, adventure and mayhem are cute and keep the plot moving. The author knows how to tell a story and she also knows when the story is done.
Interesting story lines, romantic, and funny
Another in the series of Poor Relations. Very interesting story lines, romantic with humor.
    Go Colonel Go!
This was another entertaining book in the series. I was kept in suspense almost the whole story. I am a fan of MC Beaton, and I was not disappointed.
