Lucretia P. Hale
Lucretia Peabody Hale (18201900) was a successful novelist, journalist and served as a member of the Boston School Committee. Born in Boston to a newspaper publisher father, Hale developed her writing skills early on. Hale's childrens' stories are filled with humor and charm, entertaining for adults as well as children.

Awesome for transition readers.
Absolutely precious stories. This book is a good book for children that are just in between the reading of juvenile fiction and the harder adult time novels. The chapters are self contained, meaning that each new chapter is a different topic than the one before, however it is all about the same family and the characters stick with the reader in a delightful playful manner.

I grew up on some of these stories, and my kids did too -- as soon as I realized that there were many of these stories (written for a Boston newspaper in the 19th century) and they had been collected into a book. Take these stories in small doses. The silly pickles that the Perterkins get themselves into can seem repetitious after a while.

This is one of my favorite books from my childhood years. Now I read about this silly Peterkin Family to my granddaughter and she loves them, too.

This Kindle edition is faulty. There are missing sections and sometimes the first words of a story are not there. This needs to be digitized. The first part of the first story is not even there. That is a shame because the "The Peterkin Papers" are wonderful little stories that small children can really engage in.
