Independently battling lymphedema

My co-teacher's sister suffered from this disease, although at first they thought that something was wrong with her heart, liver, or kidneys. When the attending physician found nothing, he considered lymphedema.

Here's my review.

I love how the content of the book progressed. My sister is a nurse, so she was able to explain it to me, but reading this book gave me the layman's explanation. Now the real deal was at around 56%, when the author provided us with steps on how to deal with the condition, including how to properly choose a garment.

What I wish is for the author to add some more is diet. I hope she provided us with more options and of course explanation. Other than that, this book is recommended :)

A great guide to identifying Lymphedema. I'm not a doctor but I like to research things like this. Now I know how to recognise the symptoms. If I ever did I would definitely seek a Doctors opinion.

Wonderfully written and illustrated guide for the health professional looking to learn how to help patients with this disease. If you suspect you have lipedema and need to educate your physician and others on your health care team, this book is head and shoulders above the alternative of handing your doctor a file of research articles. Lipedema - The Disease They Call FAT is a perfect conversation starter and hopefully it will help to get you the medical treatment you deserve.

Poor image quality

My primary criticism is that there is no way, at least on the Kindle version of this book, to view any of the images any bigger than thumbnail size. That's WAY too small. For most Kindle books, images are significantly larger, and readers can zoom in for more detail.

Still, I appreciated info about diagnosis & treatment.

The First Monumental Step to Increased Awareness

Although identified in the 1950's - this disease has had little light shown on it until now. Women ignored and chastised by the medical profession for years, now have a book to share with their medical professionals to explain the fact that this IS a disease. That the Lipedema fat is resistant to diet and exercise. The disfiguring fat is diseased fat - and structurally different than the fat caused by obesity. Women who suffer from this currently are typically diagnosed (if at all) in the later stages of the disease when conservative treatments are to little avail to turn the disease around, and are often referred to invasive bariatric surgery procedures which does little to change the affected areas . Women need more awareness of the disease so they can be diagnosed at earlier stages in order to adapt conservative preventative measures into their lifestyle.

The audiobook is well done; flows smoothly!

Special Forces Handbook of Medical Secrets written by James Li is an amazing collection of tips in treating wounds, illnesses, and other medical ailments. These are not the typical home-remedies that many of us know or have heard of, rather they are practical and easily accessible to anyone regardless of how remotely you are located. The book is geared towards those who live or work in remote areas of the world where access to medical supplies may be limited or non-existent and those in real-life emergency situations.

Among the topics tips for treating malaria, wounds, cuts, severe stomach and colon issues and much more. Everyone knows salt added to water will help ease the pain of sore throats and heal sores in the mouth, but healing puss filled wounds with sugar or honey? I had to laugh over the fecal treatment I am sure that is not something anyone will willingly consent to having all the same very interesting!

This is an excellent audiobook that describes the treatment and uses of such remedies. A definite must-listen audiobook for everyone! It is a brief audiobook but one that is packed with useful and vital information.

The narrator, Mike Ortego, performs the book clearly and well. His voice is authoritative and concise which helps add to the validity of the book. Ortego performed the book in a soothing tone, yet not one that puts the listener to sleep.

Written by a Medical Professional Who Recovered From Chronic Pain

Anyone suffering with chronic pain owes it to themselves to look at the work of Dr John Sarno upon whose work Georgie Oldfield's book is based. So why not just buy Dr. Sarno's book? Why not indeed. Anyone who believes them self a candidate for a TMS diagnosis should read one of Dr. Sarno's books. But where Georgie's work comes in is in two ways. Many people have difficulty believing their pain may be due to TMS. It's always good to read a book by someone who recovered from it them self. Especially when that person is a medical professional who probably had a lot more difficulty believing in TMS than you're having.

Georgie is a physical therapist, more correctly a physiotherapist as she lives and practices in Great Britain, who recovered from chronic pain herself. She tells you about her recovery and she offers something more along the lines of an organized program to follow to help recpver from TMS.

A practical book on chronic pain treatment

The magnificent Dr. Sarno's books on tension myositis syndrome and other psychosomatic disorders for some patients do not provide a practical approach sufficient for the treatment. This book of the British physiotherapist Georgie Oldfield is very well written, and designed with an eminently practical character, so it will be of great interest for many patients with chronic pain and also for health profesionals, which unfortunately in Europe few are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of painful psychosomatic syndromes. Mrs Oldfield is a wonderful exception.

AMAZINGLY helpful for chronic pain

The author acknowledges her book is based on the work of Dr. John Sarno, and explains the role that emotional stress and turmoil play in chronic pain. The great thing about this book is the last chapter and the appendix where she gives very practical and easy methods to deal with emotional stress. I have had chronic migraines, etc. for almost 20 years and have found very little help in traditional medical treatments. I saw a HUGE reduction in pain right away using these methods -- thank you Georgie Oldfield!!

It's the best!

I've read a stack of books about the mind-body connection, TMS, and chronic pain; this one is far and away the best and most practical of the lot. The material in Chronic Pain: Your Key to Recovery could change your life, as it has mine. Thank you, Ms. Oldfield, for writing such a wonderfully hands-on book.
