God breathed prayer book

This is a wonderful book of prayers with a depth that encourages further meditation.

I should have sampled this

I thought I was ordering the classic "The Valley of Vision" - a book of wonderful Puritan prayers. Not so.

Not what I thought

Something should be said for having the genius to name you book with the same name as a collection prayers. He has probably sold more than he ever expected.

I guess everyone who downloaded this was expecting the masterpiece Puritan prayers with the same name. What a bummer to open it up and find out its something completely different.

"Et il y avait la guerre, la même que pour tout le monde." Mais la guerre n'était pas la même pour tout le monde, ni pour Julek Gruda, la guerre n'était pas la même pour lui. Il n'était même pas la même personne pendant toute la guerre. Sa perception de l'identité et des relations se déplace comme du sable sous ses pieds. Nous voyons à quel point l'habileté de mentir est utile à la survie des enfants.

Ce livre audio a un langage très drôle et des observations pointues de la nature humaine appliquées à la guerre et aux révolutions. Malgré notre raison et nos idéologies, nous ne pouvons pas cesser d'être humains.

In this case, the soul is trapped in a 400 pound body, and Ethel Rohan allows Big Billy Brennan to bring the full weight of his being into the pain. Billy Brennan is such a wonderful character, it's impossible not to want him to reach his goal, but more than that -- to find some peace. I loved this book

I loved this book ,being a native Irish woman ,I felt the author portrayed the nature of Irish people beautifully,their struggles,griefs & glories were depicted with compassion & respect .From the getgo I liked Billy Brennan & found myself drawn back to the story rooting for him & enjoyed his vivid descriptions of favorite Irish foods!It is a story of loss & love & ultimatey hope .looking to Ethyl Rohan's next novel.

No fluff piece here

I really expected a fluff piece, something I could read easily while working out. This is a very layered and touching story of a family in crisis. Each character brings his or her own issues and complexities into the present day tragedy and the author brings that out in a gentle and relatable fashion.

It's a lonely road with no detours--but a journey that must be taken.

I just finished The Weight of Him--it was tragically wonderful and ironically consoling.

I am so pleased for you and your success.

Such a tough topic--suicide--making sudden loss a double whammy.

I did love Billy's frailty and his brave journey. It is a lonely road trying to put life back together after losing someone so close.

The story touched me deeply and I thank you for sharing your gift of writing.

Stunning

âWhen you give like that, you deserve whatever makes your heart wholeâ

The floods of 2007 are ingrained in my mind. I remember watching Look North with Harry Gration showing the images of Sheffield and the surrounding area devastated by Mother Nature and calls from work colleagues stranded at home unable to get to Leeds. I didnât catch much of the national coverage so I was never fully aware of the full extent of what had happened.

Maria In The Moon centres around the floods that hit Hull, the authorâs hometownâwell city. But itâs not about the floods in the main. Itâs about Catherine, a woman who canât stop listening to other peopleâs problems. Sheâs drawn to care-lines when she has her own relationships that need sorting out.

The writing totally surrounded me. I felt I was there in Hull, I was Catherine whilst my own life in Leeds continued around me as I read. I felt what she felt.

I thought the writing in How To Be Brave was beautiful but Ms Beech has honed her talent in this one. Where else would you read a description of âThe draught from the open door kissed my bare anklesâ? I felt my ankles shiver as I read that sentence.

âMaria In The Moonâ is an emotional charged read and I defy anyone not to feel a tug of the heartstrings as Catherineâs story reaches its climax. I cried as the book came to a close. But donât be mistaken, amongst all the emotion and angst of Catherineâs life and those she listens to on the phone, thereâs suspense but thatâs all Iâm going to say #nospoiler. The book has been labelled as âDark Dramaâ and it is definitely dark and dramatic.

âItâs not love unless it hurtsâ

Louise Beech is rapidly becoming one of the few authors who will draw me out of the dark world of crime fiction into her own unique genre of story telling. I adore her writing style! I now have to shoehorn in âThe Mountain In My Shoeâ into my reading schedule!!

My first Louise Beech novel but not my last

Iâve been wanting to read a novel written by Louise Beech for a little while now. I have to admit to being a little put off in the past as her novels, despite being classed as psychological thrillers, they tend to have words like moving or beautiful attached to them. So, cards on the table, Iâm not a reader who would usually seek a moving or beautiful novel. I want terrifying, gory, dark and gripping. Theyâre my kind of words.

Love this classic! And I love KAY LENZ!

I remember this book from when it was first released way back in the 70s, I think, or perhaps late 60s. It was one of those books everyone was reading - along with I Never Promised You A Rose Garden. I remember the movie, too. It had an all star cast and Kay Lenz, who played Lisa, was lovely. We all wanted to be her. She also starred in Breezy; with the still dreamy but much too old for her Bill Holden. That was definitely in the seventies.

This was a real pleasure to listen to. Like refinding an old friend. The story is a bit dated. The girls talk about musical groups and actors who aren't well-known today - although I suppose Paul Newman is still remembered, but is he remembered as a sex symbol? When this book came out, Paul Newman was a real hunk and soooo many of us were totally crushing on him.

I found Kay Lenz's narration charming. She has a lovely voice with a bit of huskiness to it, and she's a natural as a reader. I looked but couldn't find anything else narrated by her, but like any great actor, she's a master at providing that feeling/inflection that brings dialogue to life. I looked her up and while she's still acting, she also has a lovely pottery line! You can find samples of it on the Kay Lenz Facebook Fan Page. Good on her!

The story is about Lisa, an all-American girl - pretty, bright, confident - who is experiencing the onset of mental illness. Her behaviour fluctuates and at first, the main signs are her dark moods and outbursts. She reaches out to her parents, but they refuse to believe there is anything wrong, choosing to see her behaviour as attention seeking. As her friends become increasingly concerned, they reach out to the adults around them: Lisa's parents, the school counsellor, their parents, but no one seems willing to help Lisa. So they decide they have to do something, and that's what the book is about.

I found the story touching and surprisingly still relevant. Indeed, not long after listening to it, I was telling my sister about it and she related a story she'd just heard from a young couple at a wedding she attended. The young woman suffered from mental illness (I think she was bipolar), and when she was afflicted in her teens, she found it very hard to get any real help. She was lucky to find support eventually, and now in her mid-20s, she's doing great, but her parents are still in denial about her condition. They just refuse to believe that there is anything wrong or different about her, and if she'd left it to them, she'd still be without treatment, and probably wouldn't have been getting married, either! This strange coincidence of finding and listening to this classic only to have my sister tell me a similar story when I mentioned it tells me that this book is, sadly, still relevant. I hope that younger readers find this book!

A melancholy story about ice cream makers.

Who can resist a story about ice cream? I signed up for this book because of the title. I love ice cream and I was curious what story do ice cream makers tell.

There is a contention that ice cream did not originate from Italy. There is a claim that it actually came from China. But Giuseppe Talamini would absolutely oppose that. He thinks that Marco Polo did not actually go to China and brought ice cream making as one of the discoveries from the east with him. Giuseppe believes that his grandfather discovered ice cream. Ice-cream making is his way of life and the business will pass on to his sons and his sons' future sons.

This is a story about a family whose business and way of life is centered upon making delicious and creamy delights of multi-flavored ice cream. Yum! As it appears, ice-cream making is not as sweet as the concoction. It requires back-breaking dedication and a skill for turning fruits and flavors into heady and addicting combinations that will keep the customers coming back for more. As it turned out, not all ice-cream makers want to be ice-cream makers. Like in this story, Giuseppe, had no choice but to follow in his father's footsteps and take over the family business. He wanted to be an inventor. Someone who can create things. He is fond of tinkering and just making things, even if they do not have any specific purpose. But he has to forgo that dream and had to continue the family legacy of churning ice and fruits into mouth-watering gelato. And like Giuseppe, his first-born did not also want to be an ice-cream maker. Giovanni wants to be a poet and he became one, even to the cost of being estranged from the family. The second son, Luca, like his father was also forced to take over the family business because there is no one else. Luca's son is more curious on poetry rather than ice-cream making. I think the story is very realistic. Even though it centers on ice-cream, the dilemma of who's going to takeover the family business passed down through generations is also a question for some of the businesses today. It explores the reality between following one's dream or to get trapped in continuing the family legacy. I definitely could not relate to this since we do not have any family business but a similar question had been asked of me. When I was younger, whenever I was asked what would I like to be, my answer was always something else other than being a teacher.
