    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 35 mins

    Publisher: Edward Barry Jones
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
This fast-paced thriller ensnares intelligence agents, drug cartel overlords, and politicians in a twisted web of deceit and deception.
Camila Sanchez, an Argentinian garbage sifter, finds a partially shredded confidential CIA document among her overnight collection of refuse. This document describes a program to hack into the Argentine Intelligence agencies' databases, including e-mails, and to glean details of their relationship with the powerful Mexican Gulf cartel.
Camila considers this find as treasure and sells the information to the Argentine Intelligence Secretariat. Armed with this knowledge, the Argentines begin to feed misinformation to the CIA. Crusading anti-drug activists are falsely portrayed as being secretly in the pay of the cartel leading to numerous arrest warrants. Information and misinformation flows freely on the corrupted e-mail system but one Gulf Cartel directive surprises both the Argentines and the Americans: "Activate Rosario 5."
Rosario 5 proves to be a highly effective sex stimulant that threatens to overwhelm the youth of America and Argentina. "Paradise Parties", mimicking the San Francisco sexual orgies of the past, become commonplace and pervasive. Both societies are deeply threatened. A cooperative effort between the two countries to eradicate the curse ensues.

It was a very interesting story.
What Ties a Garbage Sifter to a Sexual Drug and Drug Cartels?
This review is based on a free copy received from the author but reflect my own unbiased views.
This is the second book I have read from the author (Rusted Rails) and it is quite different. It is actually three separate stories that relate to the US and Argentinian governments battle against two Mexican Drug cartels.
The first tale is set off by a "garbage sifter" (Camilia) finding a sensitive, poorly shredded US document talking about a program called Wild Ferret. This program involves planting a computer worm into the Argentinian government computers to learn about the Mexican cartels. Camilia decides to sell the document to the Argentina government which sets off a chain of events putting her life in danger.
The second tale focuses on a sexual drug called Rosario 5 and the Argentinian's attempt to ruin a presidential candidate's campaign. The last tale involves an attempt to locate and thwart the production of Rosario 5 which is wrecking havoc with the youth of America.
The author has a fairly good writing style and provides a cast of characters at the beginning of each tale which is very helpful and I wish more authors would do this. Each of the tales has moments of suspense which serve well to hold the reader's interest. Though none of the character truly stands out there are a couple of moments where the reader feels for Camilia's struggle and later there are a few times where the reader cares about the interactions of Agents Rodriguez and Aguilar.
All in all this was a good book and well worth the four stars I gave it.
    Paper trails can be dangerous
When Camila Sanchez finds the government documentation regarding the âWild Ferret Projectâ partly shredded in her sorted trash she takes it home to processes. As she slowly pieces it back together she instantly realizes it is worth something.

    Fast paced French thriller
The second book by the author about a small private company of French intelligence agents working out of Paris. The story is complicated and held my interest until the end. I hope more of his work will appear in translation
    checkmate!
[ I received this book free from the publisher through NetGalley. I thank them for their generousity. In exchange, I was simply asked to write an honest review, and post it. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissionâs 16 CFR, Part 255 âGuides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising]
"Thereâs going to be blood on the steps of the Palais de Justice. The search for truth isnât off to a good start"
Victoire Augagneur, her husband,John Spencer Larivière and their collegue Luc Masseron run Fermatown, a private investigation service headquartered in their home in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. During a family celebration they are contacted to report to deal with an international terrorism "situation" that could jeopardize the precarious balance of power within the worldwide economic community. How they deal with it is unique. Each one has skills suited for their roles and together, their take on the situation is amazing!
This book is as subtle as a chess game and as explosive as today's headlines. More than one story runs concurrently as they work, together and separately to deal with eco terrism and people almost too smart for their own good. Besson has presented a fast paced, intelligent work of fiction that could rival the latest headlines in any news market. Well written, I highly recommend this book
Fresh and Entertaining Plot with True French Flavor
Of all the posted reviews, I agree most closely with 'Kayak Jay'. This is an amazing blend of the latest technology with primordial political corruption and human greed. Plotting in the story is a 'tour de force' (the book is translated from the French.) Bernard Besson is a master at weaving complex threads into a riveting plot. The premise about using precise time and mathematical algorithms developed for high-speed trading to aid cyber-warfare to facilitate illegal payments on an international scale and is fresh, as is the generally understandable explanation that gets readers through unfamiliar science.

    Seeing Double
This was an excellent book it kept me glued to it excellent story which more so tells what is going on in our world today
    Great new thriller!
Seeing Double Required Some Focus to Settle into the Story. I had a tough time diving into this book. I settled right into Reinhardt's chapters and interactions--but, found myself needing to re-read and refocus a bit as the other characters were introduced and the scenes began to form. Alexander creates some amazing characters throughout this book--I just found it a little complicated to "map everything out" with a single read through of the first several chapters.
Seeing Double offers a complicated cast of characters and twisting plot. Alexander is a very organized, detailed writer. Once I had everything (and everyone) "organized" in my own reader's mind--the book moved flawlessly. Seeing Double takes readers on a fast paced, complicated, twisting and turning adventure all the way through to the end. The author offers readers a lot of detail and a lot of information as she moves among her various characters to unveil the story. I love the design of this series--as readers are included in a host of subplots and scenes within each and every chapter.
Would I recommend Seeing Double? After reading and re-reading the first several chapters of the book; I settled into the characters and their stories. Alexander creates a wonderfully, complex, interrelated book from her various characters and a host of plot twists and side stories. This book is the first book in a series--and; unlike Relentless, this book does end with some unresolved issues--some of them larger issues, so readers should plan to add the next book of the series to their reading list. I enjoy Alexander's writing style. I enjoy the inside looks at each of her characters and their individual stories. This book will keep readers guessing--and create enough interest in the characters and their plights to pull readers forward to the next book of the series.
I received a copy of this book from the author or publisher for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.
Enjoy this action-packed novel filled with covert organizations!
In this gripping tale, several covert organizations are forced to interact with one another for the good of mankind. A new, extreme organization has been created and growing rapidly. In each organization, the individuals do not know who they can trust. While each feels loyal and dedicated to their organization and its participants, there are many unusual happenings which stirs up doubt of even the most trusted individuals.
There are several covert actions which occur.

    Release date: 06-02-16
    Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Espionage
    Publisher's Summary:
From the winner of the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger 2012 for Best Thriller of the Year comes a gripping and suspenseful new spy novel. Perfect for fans of John le Carré, Charles Cumming is 'the master of the modern spy thriller' (Mail on Sunday).
Thomas Kell thought he was done with spying. A former MI6 officer, he devoted his life to the service, but it has left him with nothing but grief and a simmering anger against the Kremlin. Then Kell is offered an unexpected chance at revenge. Taking the law into his own hands, he embarks on a mission to recruit a top Russian spy who is in possession of a terrifying secret.
As Kell tracks his man from Moscow to London, he finds himself in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse in which it becomes increasingly difficult to know who is playing whom. As the mission reaches a boiling point, the threat of a catastrophic terrorist attack looms over Britain. Kell is faced with an impossible choice: loyalty to MI6 - or to his own conscience?

    Never again
Another readable book by Charles Cumming. But the most irritating narrator. Unfortunately Spoilt the book
Not even on the same planet as Le Carre.
Absurd storyline; stilted dialogue and totally lacking in subtlety. Made my excuses and left after the first course.
Underwhelming after an excellent first book
I really liked the first book so then bought the next two on the spot. These two, however, have been a frustrating listen.
The colder war is far too slow. The main storyline takes far too long to get going. To build the romantic aspect, but it's frankly boring and over egged. I felt a man of this age and training wouldn't let it be so consuming. It feels forced and a plot line to lead onto the next book.
What is continually frustrating is the manner in which Kell talks and treats C. I feel the author thought he would get kudos for writing the head of the the secret service as a woman. Then the way he not only talks to her but treats her, a friend and a colleague he apparently has high respect is infuriating. The author with one hand gives us a woman in the highest ranking position and with the other continues to treat her as women have been treated with the world of secret service.
Overall I found myself continually frustrated by the series and will not be returning to the next in line.
    Another intelligent story!
    Any additional comments?
This is a very good continuation of the Tom Kell series. By the time you get to this book you are aware of why Tom is a divided, ambivalent character. This books shows a path to his repair, and old fashioned word, redemption.
The series is realistic in that it does not use 'super human' characters and allows for frailties and failure along with an admirable desire to get the job done. Tom is a surprisingly sensitive and thoughtful man and that contrasts satisfyingly with some of the more functionally amoral protagonists one comes across in this kind of literature.

    Good but not great.
A good first novel, but I did feel that some heavier editing would have been helpful. Just a bit flabby in places.
    Edits!
Mature and intelligent thriller with a great level of 'insider' detail, well read. Sadly there are some poor edits which irritated but didn't stop me enjoying it.
Hopefully the start of a good little series!
    Good enthralling story.
A great captivating story but the narrator could be better, too "breathy", slightly too dramatic all the time.
    Wow what a story
Frank Gardner's knowledge of the underworld is very evident and the clarity of his writing style adds impact and authenticity.
    Awesome
This book kept me coming back for more, excellent storyline! Well read and truly gripping!

    Exciting book
This was a really exciting book. There is a lot of action and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Though this is fiction, it seems very realistic. I listened to the Audible audio version narrated by David Dietz. He does a good job overall, but I have a little problem with his "frantic" female voices, which tend to come across a little whiny to my ear. Fortunately, there is less of that in this book than I have listened to in other books narrated by him. Overall, a good book, and if you like stories about the Middle East, I recommend giving this one a try.
    Intense right from the start
If you could sum up Secret of the Oil in three words, what would they be?
    Intense mysterious an exciting
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the whole overall story. Who doesn't love spies espionage an a good mystery.
Which character as performed by David Dietz was your favorite?
He did a great job with them all
    Any additional comments?
If your looking for a story to fall into right from the very 1st page filled with espionage mystery an intensity, a story that will keep on the edge of your seat this is the book you have been looking for.
Espionage Prequil To Donavan Chronicles Intense
Where does Secret of the Oil rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I've read too many to rank. Among this type (espionage) probably the middle. Vince Flynn will always be the bar to beat.
What did you like best about this story?
Learning the cast of characters, the hints toward their plans. It is always neat to unravel these complex story lines.
Have you listened to any of David Dietzs other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not, but he is an excellent performer. Dietz's was born with the voice to narrate this book/series.
    Any additional comments?
This is a prequel to the Donovan Chronicles, with the potential to be a 5 stars series.
I don't know enough about espionage/or technical weaponry to know if it is accurate or not, but it kept me entertained. It kept me listening and lead to a satisfactory yet cliffhanging ending. Great accomplishment.
    Notes: violent and strong language
