Vintage le Carre!

Not author's most famous, but one of my favorites. VINTAGE le Carre. AND IT'S VERY LONG, which I love. Gave as gift for somebody going on a cruise.

Jonn LeCarre does not disappoint, even with a 1987 novel set in the Middle East. I like a long read and this book is such. The book drags a bit when well into the read but then it is full steam ahead.

Though written about terrorist in the 60s it is still the world we live in.

" Simply the Best. Better Than All the Rest".

What is their to say? It is a John Le Carre' novel. He is simply the "best in the business". One of the best writers in the English language, extant.

Our real world, exoplored by a master

I have read reviews of Le Carre's post cold war novels that treat them as of a lower quality than his classics. I must disagree with that view. Le Carre's more recent works evoke the murky alliances of modern powers, whether state or private, with a deft touch. His tales paint compelling, relatable victims, villains, and heroes, navigating today's brutal world of big money, omnipresent surveillance, and bought and sold governments. The NIght Manager works both on the personal level as a story of fully drawn people struggling in difficult circumstances and in terms of the big picture where compromised institutions perpetuate their existence by supporting the very evils they were established to combat. An eloquent examination of our times.

Classic LeCarre

The Night Manager describes the murky trade in deadly arms, and the equally murky corridors of government agencies that aid and abet it if this so happens to advance The National Interest. The novel is populated by colourful characters, and has a pace that will leave the reader at times breathless, and at other times admiring the effortless prose and delightful turns of phrase so typical of Le Carre.

Although Smiley catapulted him the fame, and I still re-read them regularly, itâs the non-dagger novels like The Honourable Schoolboy and The Night Manager where his writing is so rich, so full of flawed but loveable human characters, and the plots and sub-plots and viewpoints duck and weave and bob like corks in a torrent creek. Above all, Le Carre remains hugely entertaining.

Top Notch

This book is so good that it's hard to find a flaw. Perhaps the ending was a bit ambiguous; how Pine got from the deck of the Iron Pasha

in terrible shape to his new life with Jed. I would have liked more detail there. And what happens to Roper? Other than that, the book

is a brilliant depiction of the arms trade in an era like today, with many interesting characters, and top notch writing. A master writing

with all his powers intact....John le Carre at his best!

The TV miniseries, which won't be broadcast for a ...

The TV miniseries, which won't be broadcast for a while but is available for purchase on iTunes, actually has a more satisfying ending. But LeCarre's writing is well paced and sometimes lyrical, and his characters are real people, especially the title character and his MI6 "handler". This is definitely worth a read if you missed it earlier.

There is no writer that can compare to the masterful ability of le Carre to single out the character with the most romantic of traits, for sacrifice.

A great early Le Carre novel

An early Le Carre novel that sets the table for the great ones to follow. A terrific psychological cold war thriller that uncannily anticipates Brexit. Highly recommended.

This was definitely a very good book. There are a lot of twists and turns in this book which adds a nice bit of suspense to the mystery of Eve's previous life and her current situation. The main character, Eve/Jane, was psychologically messed with so much that at times it seemed a bit much. While the premise is not that original and some aspects of the book were a bit out there, I still enjoyed it very much. The narration was excellent and I highly recommend this book to lovers of mystery, suspense and thriller novels. On a serious note, the statistics noted in the novel with regard to domestic violence and crimes against women was a real eye opener.

Dead Women Have Books

Clan Destine: Dead Women Have Vendettas by Ruby Allure is my third book by Ruby Allure. AND: Its the best! Money Farm and The Office Zoo are both funny and good. This is darker, and i like, no wait; I freaking love it! Yes this not the most funny one, no it does not have the lough out loud moments, but the humor works even where it is a thriller. I recommend all the books i read by Ruby, and i cant wait to see what she is going to do next.

Mil Nicholson is the perfect voice for this book, her british accent is just what this book need. It is read with love and i do feel that. 11 hrs and 17 mins never feels boring, uninteresting or just bad. It feels right!

Ruby Allure is maybe new to you, but i see all bright things in her future.

Great Book

I loved this...such a refreshing read and great entertainment...Sophisticated and smart...took me on a great adventure. Thanks for the ride!

Gripping plot, but...

...the writing is not the best. The author is a Washington lawyer, and has not yet mastered fiction writing. But it's a pretty good read anyway.

terrific thought-provoking character driven espionage thriller

The six (Rachel Paulson, Alexander Bonner, Branko Rosza, Mickey Dooley, Martin Booth, and Beijing exchange student Lee Tai Ling) first met at Stanford and realized they shared an interest in China; Barry Lavin served as a mentor father figure encouraging them. Thus these scholars formed the MANDARIN CLUB to discuss China and hopefully make a better world by understanding the culture. In 1979 President Jimmy Carter following up on President Nixon's opening the diplomatic door, recognizes trade with the People's Republic of China. Suddenly the club members are no longer inane nonentities as Wall St and Uncle Sam need experts, which The Mandarin Club members contain.

Over time, each became a success. Rachel is a highly regarded Beltway lobbyist. Alexander is an investigative reporter following leads on intelligence leaks. Branko is chief of the China desk at the CIA. Dooley sells technology to the Communists. Martin works for the Congress. Lee keeps an eye on his country and his five associates as he still hopes for a free China. These six and their mentor will soon be caught in an international game of cat and mouse in which China and the United States appear heading to war; they are the only hope to prevent pandemic catastrophe.

This is a terrific modern day thought-provoking character driven espionage thriller that enables the audience through the MANDARIN CLUB members to eavesdrop on the DC powerbrokers. The action is fast-paced and fun to follow, but it is keeping the sextet consistent and genuine that makes the tale worth reading. Gerald Felix Warburg will have the audience pondering over abstract concepts like what and who is truly the patriot and who is the ideologue wrapping exclusive labels within the flag. Anyone opposed to the Patriot Act is obviously an anti-patriot.

Great Read

I just started reading this series and I'm hooked.

If you like characters like Scot Harvath

I read almost exclusively in this genre and Richard Fox is on point. If you like characters like Scot Harvath, Mitch Rapp, Dewey Andreas, The Grey Man, etc - you'll love Eric Ritter.

Fox is a strong writer and the book flows easily. It is hard to stop reading once you've started and I'm patiently waiting for the next in the series.

Short story?

I was expecting a decent read out of this but felt like I finished a novella with a rather abrupt ending as well. Not much to talk about in this short story really. Very disappointing

Good and interesting story

This is written extremely well with interesting characters. He shows an understanding of the world of intelligence operations. I am looking forward to reading many new stories from Richard Fox.
