Arrived on time and as described.

A guide to help build business and customer value (for all), this book claims to be the first-of-its-kind for marketers in the 21st century; utilising research to identify 12 specific types of behaviours that can create impact, deliver results and lead to career success and accolade in the process. What a build-up, but can the book deliver?

The behavioural types are focussing on the big issues, creating leaders rather than followers, acting as a proactive rather than reactive guide. The authors reportedly have done a lot of groundwork, pulling in research from collaborative partners who looked at over 68,000 executives in 120 different countries, and added to this is real-world advice from some of the worldâs top CEOs and CMOs for good measure.

There is a lot of material to digest. This is a book you should set aside time to enjoy, just like a fine wine, rather than rush through it during a commute or when you have a few minutesâ downtime here and there. Low on hyperbole and high on quality advice and observation, this was a worthy book on many levels. It shows, for those who donât believe it, that marketing is an essential evil that can deliver a lot to the company. It should not be viewed as a silo-based activity and neither should its practitioners be side-lined into a narrow vertical area of responsibility. If used correctly, marketing people may even be better-placed to spread their corporate wings and take a much wider, even more responsible position within their company.

This may be one of those books that you ignore at your peril! This is not a marketing book per se, it is a leadership book for marketers. It may feel a bit heavy-going but perhaps deservedly so and the information being offered is worth it. It is also something that you may need on your bookshelf and it shouldnât be kept in âvirgin, unreadâ condition either.

What I wish I'd learned in business school

Intelligent Fanatics does for Entrepreneurs what Good to Great did for Corporations. It is an excellent case study of entrepreneurs who've dramatically outperformed their peers and how they did it. I highly recommended it for entrepreneurs, investors and managers.

Did you like "The Outsiders"?

If you have read and enjoyed "The Outsiders" by William Thorndyke as much as I did then you should consider this book for your library as well. It does not hit the technical case studies as hard but the book absolutely shares some terrific principles shared by top managers.

The book is well written and has a good narrator. Go 3x and re-Read often to help yourself apply the principals.

A must read for any HR professional

This is a must read for any HR professional with a sincere interest in building and sustaining a positive culture and diverse workforce. The author provides tangible tools to approach diversity and inclusion work through the use of both case studies and reflections. I appreciated her view of D&I and HR working as a team, which I agree is essential to this endeavor. I was particularly drawn to the authors attention to workplace culture, evaluating why your organization wants a diverse workforce, and understanding that it is a complex process that requires attention. As the author states, "a toxic workplace culture will tank a diversity initiative every time." Thus, we need to change the workgame!

Some books we should read - some we should digest.

As you can see from the pictures I have included this book got the juices flowing. There is not a page in the book without notes.

I am a software architect by choice, and an enterprise architect by title. I like patterns and authors that can communicate them clearly so they can become a common language with my team and the IT community in general.

Patterns are not new knowledge. They are something that has repeatedly succeeded and are worth recording to teach others and create a common language.

That is the way I see this book. There is no new knowledge in it. The knowledge has just been assembled and explained in a way that helps the reader turn the knowledge into wisdom.

This book is clear, clean, and very well laid out. It is one of the best books I have read in years. It takes the core of leadership and presents it in the clearest way possible.

If you are interested in true leadership, start hear. No matter what path you take in your quest to become a 'real' leader, if that is what you want, you will end up needing to know everything in this book.

You can go out are read 100 other books, attend seminar after seminar, and fall on your face 1000 times, before you arrive here, or you can just start here.

Can I write an unbiased, accurate review of my own son's book? It's an honor to try. I just completed reading, "Leading with Character and Competence," and I am pretty amazed. This book is a masterpiece. It is the best book on leadership I have read. It is an exciting read, and a must-read for anyone who is or desires to be a leader. Every page is packed with powerful insight into those two cardinal principles which all great leaders master. It is a reflection of who Tim is as a person, his excellent education and his many years training leaders in America and globally.
