Real Fun Book

I have read a couple of Clark Grahams books and I just bought this one without reading any of the review cause I have liked all of the books he wrote well Ms Emily is a cute little girl and her adventures would make a good read for the under 10 crowd. I must admit I did catch myself smiling more than once and I will save it to read to my grandkids...

A cute story with good advice

Where does Dairy Free and Happy! rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This is really the first actual audiobook I've ever listened to. I don't normally listen to audiobooks, as I prefer paperbacks or reading on my Kindle, but since it was a short children's book, I figured I'd give it a whirl. It wasn't bad. The narration was easy to understand, although it did seem a bit slow, like there were pauses between pages or something along those lines.

Would you be willing to try another book from Michelle Diana Lowe? Why or why not?

I suppose I might be willing to try another book. The story started off cute, with fun fruit and veggie characters introducing themselves. I liked it for what it was, so I'd read another book by the author, sure.

What about Sarah McNamaras performance did you like?

I did enjoy it. The narrator sounded a little like Emma Watson, and I've always been fond of accents, so listening to her read the story was enjoyable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't really make me laugh or cry, as it's a children's book that offers advice on how to deal with food allergies. It's not really emotional, just helpful.

Dairy Free and Happy is a children's book directed towards children with a dairy allergy. I would say that the target age range is in early elementary school.

I was extremely interested in this book since my youngest daughter (as well as myself) has a dairy and gluten allergy. She had to go gluten and dairy free while she was in elementary school, and there was some challenging times getting to understand how food impacted her body.

I read this book with my daughter and asked for her opinion. She said that the book said the information that she had needed to know when she was younger. She also said that it was done in a way that was easy to understand, although the first part of the book confused her a bit at first.

I think that her review of the book is perfect. There is a lot of useful information that is perfectly directed at young children. It shows what food to picks, emphasis eating whole foods, and treats having a dairy allergy as something that is not stigmatizing.

As a parent, the only aspect of the book that I thought was missing was helping a child to understand why dairy hurts their body. This could be very different for every child.

I'm very excited about using 101 Awesome Writing Prompts in my high school creative writing class. Every prompt is a refreshing challenge to the writer's imagination. The prompts are geared toward story writing, but many can be adapted for poetry writing, and several can be used to encourage writing from personal experience. They're great for avid writers in need of inspiration and reluctant writers in need of motivation.

Informative for children 7-10

My grandsons really enjoyed this book and it gave them insights into the thoughts and ideas that were important in that time of America. We read it on the bus going up to New York City to visit the Empire State Building.

This book provides a fascinating look at one of the Big Apple's premier attractions!

Everyone loves a little competition and John R. Raskob and Alfred E. Smith were determined to get ahead of Walter P. Chrysler and build the tallest building in the world. Chrysler (as in the New York City Chrysler Building) only kept his record for under a year. The Empire State building, which got "its name from a nickname for New York-the Empire State," was opened on May 1, 1931. The building clocks in at 1,250 feet (381) if you discount the lighting rod top. If you think it's a must to include it, you are looking at 1,454 feet (443m). The building is one of New York City's premier attractions and if you are planning to go you can view the city on the 86th or 102nd floor observatories . . . that is if you are not afraid of heights!

Can you imagine a building of that height going up in only one year and forty-five days? One factor that helped was the lowered cost of steel, the fact that it could be made more quickly and "stronger steel columns and beams were used to support tall skyscrapers." All 210 of them! In this book you will learn about the quick, efficient construction, how parts were built elsewhere, how railroad cars "carried supplies to workers," how different floors were built "at the same time," who the architect was, how many windows it has, what setbacks are and how long it held the record as the world's tallest building. Were you aware of the fact that "Different colored lights are used for special holidays?"

This book was very well researched and age appropriate. The flow of the writing was interesting, fascinating and pulled me right along. Any young person who is planning to take a trip to New York City or has already been there to visit the Empire State Building will love this book. There are nice crisp photographs on almost every page and naturally the older ones, especially of the fearless builders atop the building, will thrill the reader. In the back of the book is a simple map of Manhattan, some "Fun Facts," an index, a glossary and additional book and website resources. If there are 1,576 steps to the 86th floor observatory and the record time for racing to the platform is "nine minutes and thirty-seven seconds," how many steps did the winner have to jump at one time to hold the record? WOW!
