Vintage Gown, Diamond Tiara, & Murder in Vermont
A Treacherous Trader, the fourth in the series, is probably my favorite so far . . . Molly is engaged to Matt and planning their wedding . . . in Vermont . . . that Yankee state . . . whose inhabitants are so NOT accustomed to the sweet twang of Molly's and her mother, Clara's southern accent . . . Molly's search for the perfect wedding dress, cake, photographer, and place for her ceremony leads her into more than she bargained for . . . and uncovers an age old crime and love story in the process . . . great listen, unexpected resolution . . . had me guessing until the end . . .
Molly's mantra must be, "Focus on the wedding!"
Molly travels to Vermont; so far away from friends and warm weather, to plan her wedding. You'd think planning a wedding would keep Molly out of trouble; but she's in the middle of it again, to only find her wedding accessories are what lead her there. This could only happen to Molly. Thanks for letting me come along too.
Ellery--where did you come up with all this. A Fun read and better listen. Again applause to the talented And Arndt.
    Book 4 - antiques mystery
This is the 4th book in this series, and I've loved them all. This book however, I had mixed feelings about. There was a lot I liked, but also a lot of really unlikely and unbelievable things happened which seemed forced or too unrealistic.
But first, let me mention the things I really liked... I liked that this book again was set away on vacation, because we get a new locale with all new characters. Molly & her mom were the two main players, and the others are all brand new. However, if Molly ends up moving to Vermont with Matt then these characters might be mainstays going forward.. So I look forward to seeing if that happens. I also liked how there is a two fold story line happening, which is introduced from the first page. A story from the past intertwines with at story in the present and it was really cool to see it come full circle in an unexpected way.
Things I didn't love.. At first, Kitty goes to Vermont with Molly and she complains the ENTIRE time. Finally she leaves and Clara (her mom) comes alone to finish wedding planning and it was a breath of fresh air.

Detective Reed Mattox, just three months removed from the death of his partner, has turned invisibility into an art form. Switching to the K-9, taking over the graveyard shift, moving to a farmhouse miles outside of Columbus - his every move has become predicated on putting as much distance between himself and the outside world as possible.
That distance is shattered, though, when bodies begin turning up in The Bottoms, the poverty-stricken section of town he is assigned to patrol. Grisly, horrific scenes start to pop up in the middle of the night, and the overburdened precinct has no choice but to put Reed on it.
Now operating far outside of his comfort zone with a Belgian Malinois for a partner that attracts attention wherever they go, Reed is forced to unravel the murders, taking him clear across the city and back years in time, to an event that some very influential people will do anything to keep buried.

    Macabre Mythological Mystery
After reading the reviews and listening to the "sample," I knew I had to listen to this book. It is one that does not disappoint. I like a story I can visualize in my head. This one adapts to my need easily. Slowly ( not boringly) the story unwind as the killer is found. Both the killer and the detective have been "deeply hurt." There is a certain amount of respect for one to the other. Good story, good descriptions, good flow to this audio book. Good narration.
    Gritty police drama, NOT!
If you like flowery prose, this just might be for you. "His skin became moisture ladened". Why can't you just say he started to sweat? Then the long, long plea to stop trying to hurt/ kill his dog, explaining, hey that's a police officer don't ya know. Two chapters to go, just couldn't take anymore.
    A New Favorite Series
Dustin Steven's The Boatman is incredible. It's a detailed crime thriller that bit-by-bit pulls together the pieces and thrills to the very end.
    Very good Book
Thi# story is well written with a well constructed plot and story line. The narrator had a wee modulated voice for easy listening.
    Gasping
Narrator kept gasping for breath. Very distracting. Good story though odd word choices in places. Not all synonyms are equal.

    Enjoyable
A very good story and enjoyable listen.
The narrator could not have been better. What I need is someone with a pleasant voice to read the book. I'm not looking for an actor to portray each character; most of those of us who enjoy fiction have enough imagination to make the leap.
    I almost stopped listening
The book over was very good but if I encountered a Police Chief that talked like that I would think she was trying to seduce everyone she came in contact.
What is wrong with this narrator???
I don't understand how poor narrators cotinue to be used! Especially since the talented Debra Monk read the abridged version. Campbell makes Holly sound airy and cutesy. It's ridiculous. How could anyone take her seriously?! I want to know if these voice actors are receiving any direction and feedback as they read. If they aren't, START! If they are, get new directors.

    Publisher's Summary:
After her romantic idyll with the debonair Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Pearse culminates in a marriage proposal, Pru Parke sets about arranging their nuptials while diving into a short-term gig at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. At hand is the authentication of a journal purportedly penned by 18th-century botanist and explorer Archibald Menzies. Compared to the chaos of wedding planning, studying the journal is an agreeable task...that is, until a search for a missing cat leads to the discovery of a dead body: One of Pru's colleagues has been conked on the head with a rock and dumped from a bridge into the Water of Leith.
Pru can't help wondering if the murder has something to do with the Menzies diary. Is the killer covering up a forgery? Among the police's many suspects are a fallen aristocrat turned furniture maker, Pru's overly solicitous assistant, even Pru herself. Now, in the midst of sheer torture by the likes of flamboyant wedding dress designers and eccentric church organists, Pru must also uncover the work of a sly murderer - unless this bride wants to walk down the aisle in handcuffs.

    loved this book and series
If you could sum up Between a Rock and a Hard Place in three words, what would they be?
    loved them both
Which character as performed by Erin Bennett was your favorite?
    Pru and her husband
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
not extreme - just very enjoyable to listen to
    Any additional comments?
hope the author continues with this series
    Another Superb Book!
This third book in this series was excellent! I didn't figure out who dunnit in this one! Great story, along with suspense on more than one front! Delightful characters in charming settings. As usual, Erin Bennett did an amazing job. She's one of the few that can give characters different voices without making me wish for straight reading.
Everything I Want (and, then some)
What made the experience of listening to Between a Rock and a Hard Place the most enjoyable?
The sweet & captivating storyline with the little bits of "laugh out loud" humor. Pru, herself, is so down-to-earth and believable. And, I love that she's in her 50s. But, the "experience of listening" lay at the feet of the wonderful narrator, Erin Bennett.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Well, Pru, of course and I LOVED Christopher in each of the books, too! He comes across sexy and supportive - never over-stepping his bounds. But, Pru is a soft yet strong, loving, feisty, never full-of-herself woman and that makes her very interesting to me.
What about Erin Bennetts performance did you like?
She is the BEST!! Switching from a Texas accent to a British accent to a Scottish accent PLUS capturing all ages and sexes perfectly. Her delivery is appropriate to the story and leaves the reader with exacting visuals. She deserves just as much credit as the author. What a talent.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
A few tears and few laughs!
    Any additional comments?
Sometimes, in the series, there have been injuries that are never mentioned later on - like the first novel......

    Enjoyed!
Sad to hear this is the last of the series. I liked the characters and hoped to hear more of the lighthouse.
    Reading Up A Storm
Reading Up A Storm is pretty good. The mystery is well planned and the characters have moved beyond the love triangle. I look forward to seeing what happens next in this book.
THUNDER, LIGHTNING, WINDOW SEAT AND THIS BOOK!!
This was a fantastic, interesting and well written book set in my favorite place, A lighthouse, A storm, A murder and a mystery to solve. A cast of well rounded characters and twist and turns. I want more of this type of books, Eva Gates!!!!
    Reading up a storm
Good story, reader not the best, or the worst, suspenseful to the end, will read others by this author
    Look it up.
In the world of Google, there is little excuse for mispronunciation of unfamiliar words. Fray-nel lens, not frez-nel for instance. It reduces enjoyment for the listener. So, story is good but 5 minutes prep by narrator would help.

Good Book, Clean content for the most part.
Would you consider the audio edition of Hooked on Murder to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
Its crochet theme, Not too many cuss words, not too much sexual content. One thing that grates at me in books is when authors use the name of God in vain, this one didn't, or didn't very often, so I was able to listen to the whole thing. I listened to the first of a different series and could not even listen the whole way through because of that. It just grates on my ears and makes me flinch. I know that is not everyone's opinion, but this is mine, and I would choose or not choose a book if this kind of thing was mentioned in a review.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrator did different voices, Not as seemlessly done as some other readings I've heard, but it did not put me off either. I will definitlely listen to another book by this narrator if the story interests me.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This wasn't a particularly amusing book, so I didn't laugh or cry. I listened to it because it is a quick, cosy mystery. It is perfect for what I wanted, something with no stress attached. It didn't scare me, but still made me think, "Who done it"?
    Love it!
Love this series. I just wish the rest of the books in the series were available on audible instead of just the first three...
    Light and Fluffy
What made the experience of listening to Hooked on Murder the most enjoyable?
For a change crocheting got to be the star in fiber arts. Crocheting has come a long way since the day of simple afghans, doilies, and scarves although this book hasn't taken it any further than the past. This reader loves to knit, crochet, and tat so happy to see the step child come to it's own.
What did you like best about this story?
    The topic
Which character as performed by Margaret Strom was your favorite?
    I enjoyed all the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. The first 3 chapters were not that interesting although introducing all the characters.
    Any additional comments?
If you love to crochet, you will enjoy the book. It's a good story with old fashion morals.
    Tangled in Murder
A fun story, I really enjoyed the simplicity and creative path of the story.
    Disappointing
I love cozy mysteries about people who are crafty. However, I can't say that about this one. The characters were a cliche. A bunch of women getting together to moan and grown about their failed relationships. Of course, the lead character, Molly, had a faithful and loving husband. Now that he is dead, she has a wonderful boyfriend, Barry, who wants commitment.

    Members Reviews:
Starts well enough, ends like a bad action movie
I like the writers general tone and ability to create the feel of a genuine Holmes story, but he was very slow paced in the beginning and had a silly action climax right out of grade B melodrama. The reader was good, though he was a slow speaker which took a little getting used to.
    Perfect narrator, great story!
The author has done a marvelous job of writing in the style of Conan Doyle, and the story drew me in until the very end. Edward Petherbridge is such a good narrator, wish there were more available.
    it's was pretty good.
it isn't the best Sherlock adventure, and it's not the worst. I did however, really like how the author brought historical figures into the mix, that was pretty neat.
    What? Who?
Oh yes, It is Shirlock Holmes, back to us from another author. Good story, a couple of new characters, and " A BIG SURPRISE! Being a big Shirlock fan, anyone who gives me more to read I will try. I am glad I did read this one. Good reader who sounds right in his parts. If you are a purist ...don't bother!
    Effortlessly excellent narrator
Where does The Last Moriarty rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
For Sherlock Holmes stories, narrators tend to be either bombastic or to gallop through the story as though they are in a race. Instead, Charles Velev gives each character an individual voice and gives Watson a nuanced range of emotions, so it is easy to relax and get completely into the story. I hope Mr. Velev will narrate many more books and stories. Thank you also to the book's audiobook producers who made a high-quality audiobook.

It is an excellent suspense mystery set on the sparsely populated Sandhamn island chain a few miles east of Stockholm. Author Sten is a very talented novelist who writes excellent crime/police novels. The protagonists of this series are a male detective (Thomas) and female lawyer friend (Nora) who works for a bank. Nora's husband and their 10 and 6 year old sons are also significant characters.

Cooper Lee is at a crossroads. Her boyfriend of five years just left her for another woman, she's living in an apartment above her parents' garage, and her job as a copier repairperson is feeling a little, well, repetitious. Hoping for a fresh start and a new outlook on life, she joins the Bible study group at Hope Street Church. The last thing she expects while studying the Bible is a lesson in murder.
When Brooke Hughes, the woman who first invited Cooper to Hope Street, is found murdered in her home, all signs point to her husband as the culprit. But Wesley Hughes was an elder at Hope Street Church, and the members of the Bible study are filled with disbelief that such a kind and loving man could take a life, much less his wife's. Unwilling to let an innocent man and friend be railroaded into prison, the Bible group decides to investigate on their own. As Cooper and this humorously diverse group of people - including a blind folk artist, a meteorologist with a taste for younger women, and a soft-spoken web designer who might be out to catch Cooper's eye - dig deeper into the clues, they're about to discover that finding the truth sometimes takes a leap of faith.

    Really love this series
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoy this series. I first read the Hope Street Church books in Kindle version (published under the name Jennifer Stanley). I like the stories because they have a spiritual feel, but are not preachy. These are people who want to do good, but are also very human. I'm so glad this series is being released in audio. This book introduces you to the main characters, who are likable and that I can relate to. I listen to a lot of audio books, and the narrator for this one did a very good job. I highly recommend this book and the others in the series.
    Loved it!
I am a HUGE fan of the Books by the Bay series, so I was unsure how I would feel about a different series by the same author. I was so pleased! I loved the characters and the beginning of the evolution of Cooper towards the end of the book. My only complaint is that so far only books 1 and 2 of the series are available!!
    Enjoyable read
I like a cozy mystery that entertains me without scaring me. This one fits the bill. The characters are enjoyable - the story was interesting and I find myself wanting to read the next one in the series. Excellent narration.
    Another Hit For Ellery Adams!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! I am a huge fan of Ellery Adam's "Books By The Bay" mysteries and also her Library mystery series. So naturally, I was thrilled to check out another series that she wrote. It did not disappoint, and I would definitely recommend it someone who loves cozy mysteries!
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot kept me interested the whole time, yes. You are introduced to a group of friends and they solve the crime together, and I really like that. It's reminiscent of the 'Books By The Bay" series by Ellery Adams too. This small church group has an interesting variety of characters and they rally together to get intel and solve a mystery. I like this better sometimes than just 1 main character doing all the crime solving alone.

As Molly digs beneath the genteel surface of antiques and collectibles, she finds a world filled with backstabbing and competition, and what started as a story about rare collections might leave Molly with nothing more than a collection of corpses.

    A Killer Collection
I LOVED this book! The whole collector mania is portrayed nicely. An obnoxious buyer of pottery suddenly dies at a ery important auction,is it natural or murder?Andi Arndt was the perfect narrator.I may have been given this by the author or narrator...but I think I purchased this one.
New pot? No, sorry, just a dead body!
Ellery Adams writes fun cozy mysteries. I find they are well researched, lots of detail, but not so much that the story slows down. Andi Arndt, one of my favorite narrators, takes on this mystery with the voice that matches the age of the leading character. I usually listen to her in tandem with a male voice reading contemporary rom/coms, so this is a departure for me and it took me a few chapters to adjust. (I know, it's just me.. not Andi).
The story is complex, multiple characters, all well developed. A good mystery, as predicted since the story teller is Ellery Adams. I liked it. I am a fan of cozy mysteries and will recommend this book and series.
    I have downloaded book #2.
I didn't think I would like a book about pottery
But I enjoyed the narrator's voice , the mystery and the characters a lot. Actually couldn't put it down!
An Excellent Cozy Series for the Antique Lover
I finished this sixth book in the series just this morning. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys antiques and cozies.
I listened to all six books in the series, one after another. Two things bothered me a bit, which I may have noticed since I listened to them in quick succession. As the series progressed, the world of antiques and antiquing in general played a lesser part in the storyline, while the murder investigation gained a much more prominent place in the story. This seemed especially true after Parker Riggs joined Ellery Adams Adams as a co-author.
Second, while the heroine in every cozy gets caught up in investigating the crime, the overwhelming majority -- all that I have read before -- are generally told by the local authorities to stay out of their way. Let the experts handle it. That is not the case in this series.
