Don't read if you are afraid of spiders
I love a good creature feature. The spider in 'Spider' is quite awesome. I love seeing some scenes from the spider's perspective and how R F Whittaker didn't just make a standard, unstoppable beast. I don't want to give too much away but R F Whittaker did his homework on the ways spiders act and what abilities they have and put them into monstrous form.
I only gave this 4 out of 5 stars because the beginning is a little slow, but I understand what Whittaker was going for. He spends a lot of time going over each of the characters in the family and shows how they are horrible human beings. When the spider appears, the story will kicks in and with what you know about the family, you'll be rooting for the spider.
I've read and enjoyed R F Whittaker's stories before and I plan to continue in the future.
Letter to Mother Nature
Dear Mother Nature,
I want to apologize for everything I might have done to make you mad. While, I am not a fan of bugs or creepy crawlies, I understand that they are in your care. I would never think of hunting animals and squishing their eyeballs *shudder* or taking fish and banging them against rocks and I surely would NEVERRRR think of blowing air up a frogs butt until it exploded (that's just...all kinds of...gross). I will admit you choosing a spider was a good choice. Because...spiders. I was scared and immediately went to see if that fly I saw was still around (it was-I let it out...even said goodbye...) Anyway, I understand your need to teach humans a lesson and TRUST me, I have learned it. Is it bad I didn't feel sorry for any of them? Anyway I just wanna say...I love you and from now on if I see a spider...I will just run screaming. In the long run, it will be better for both of us <3
The Spider You Won't Forget... ;)
This was my first trek into the macabre mind of R F Whittaker, and I loved every second! While this might not be for everyone, namely the faint of heart! This short story is filled to the brim with extreme imagery by an author with an incredible eye for detail!! From the first sentence, to the brutal end, the story will be sure to to be something you not only can entirely visualize, but that you'll never forget! I can't wait to read more! I don't want to ruin the story for you, but rest assured, the spider on the cover barely scratches the surface of what lies within the pages!! Highly recommended for all horror fans out there looking for a cringe-worthy tale!
Sometimes, Mother Nature wins ...
A truly disturbing tale of a pitiful man, named Wyberton Witherby, with an affinity for torturing animals and a morbid fascination with their body parts. This madness is passed down to his sadistic offspring; who callously hurt and kill animals of all shapes and sizes. A vicious cycle played out for years, until Mother Nature exacts her revenges in a violent, gory and twisted display of poetic justice.
Not for the faint of heart. Contains several graphic scenes that will stay with you for awhile.
