Dream House

Light, interesting story of widow and widower in their 60's who meet in supermarket. The main thing that bothered me was the voice of the woman, which would have appropriate for a woman in her 80's or 90's, not early 60's.

65 or 90?

The voice for the 65 year old women put me in mind of a 90 year old. But it was a cute story.

Good book for older adults

Tea with sugar please

This story about two older people who meet and fall in love is full of syrup and warm fuzzies. I loved that this book was about mature people. They fall in love too, but they were flat characters and had no depth or spice. If I had bought the book it would have been read in less than an hour.

In think all audio is better because I don't like to read. Concentrating is difficult for me when reading, so I do all audio books, even my Bible. I like to read along with the audio, if that is available.

As a Christian, I enjoyed listening to a book that was wholesome, inspiring, and as a senior widow, gives me hope for love in my future.

Not as good as I'd hoped

The authors all seemed to go to the "dark side" for this one. Most of them write books where the characters overcome significant odds to come out on top. Almost all of these short stories seemed to have the good guys lose. Perhaps, they were all trying to be more realistic. Unfortunately, I read these types of novels for enjoyment and escapism. I see enough "reality" in daily life.

Interesting concept, but stories were way too short. Less authors and longer stories would be much better.

It has several tales that really pulled me in, although I do not remember them since I have read several books since. It was about what I expect from an anthology like this. A few really good stories and the rest are ones that do not appeal to me.

Yes...they are all accomplished very good writers. Same appeal to me and some don't, but I would buy another book by the same authors.

5 Louis L'Amour Short Stories

Of the 5 stories I liked the first one best: "Riding For The Brand".

Then came: "Four Card Draw", "His Brother's Debt", "The Turkeyfeather Riders", and "The Nester and the Paiute", which has an amusing ending.

The narrator's deep voice was great for male voices, but left a lot to be desired for female voices, although it did not detract from the stories.

I have not been disappointed by any Louis L'Amour stories.

Because his stories are easy reading/listening and are packed with action, Unlike the majority of modern novels, there is almost no profanity.

Mary Higgens Clark Read by Golden Globe Winner Best Actress Sally Kirkland!!!

Sally Kirkland does an excellent job reading this audio book. Her voice is compelling, full of energy, and a pleasant to hear. The book itself moves a little slow, but having it read by Golden Globe winning and Oscar Nominated Best Actress more than makes up for it. Audible should hire Sally Kirkland to read some more books.

I thought this book was very boring.

This book was not a good read. The character development was not impressive and the ending was very anti-climatic. This story was not half as good as her other works.

Not My Glass of Sherry

I really did enjoy author Mortimer's wry and dry sense of humour, and the stories were enjoyable. However, I guess it's just not my cup of tea.

Bill Wallis's narration is top notch.

Rumpole's Last Case

The Rumpole series is absolutely brilliant and, having listened to some other versions, I would recommend that you always go for the ones read by Bill Wallis who IS Rumpole as per the television series. John Mortimer is one of the wittiest writers (or was, sadly) and Rumpole's antics will have you laughing out loud!

Rumpole, My Rumpole

Was driving from Manchester to Aberdeen and wanted some easy listening, saw Rumpole and thought i liked the TV series so why not, funniest thing Ive heard for years even sat in the car for a further 20 minutes on arrival at the hotel to finish a story.

Pure bliss

Listening to this is like double cream on strawberries - nothing new or surprising but utterly delightful. A wonderful way to spend a few hours.

Best Rumpole.

Every character has an authentic and consistent voice - male, female, from anywhere in the UK and beyond, and from all social backgrounds - Bill Wallis makes them all real. The books are more solid than the TV scripts from which they developed, funnier, more nuanced, and not subject to our horror at revisiting the unfortunate fashions/hairstyles/interior decor of 1978-1992! Ideas last longer. My only real gripe - chapters often don't correspond to stories, making it harder to find the point at which one fell asleep, listening in bed.

A book involving such fine detail of village life could only have been written by a person with first hand knowledge of Village life, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book,at times I found it difficult to put the book down.

This was a very good book. The reader was especially good with The Mrs Pringle character.

My church school was much like this and, like George Lamb, I'm very grateful for the excellent education, albeit in Spartan surroundings!

A very enjoyable book or to be more accurate books. Miss Read provides a wonderful escape from reality when the troubles of the real world are too much to cope with.
