This short collection of stories is absolutely outstanding. I liked all of the tales in this book but my favorite has to be the final story about the Samurai searching for an honorable death.

I discovered Jonathan Maberry when a friend recommended Patient Zero to me. I was very surprised to find it so enjoyable. His writing is impeccable. His attention to detail and knowledge of a variety of different areas of science and politics really blew me away. So when I saw a collection of short stories from him I grabbed it immediately, anxious to see if he could do more than a good zombie story. Well, I was not disappointed. This one and also Tales From the Fire Zone were both completely engaging and incredibly well written. His writing is smart and crisp and the stories move quickly and make sense. The gore is just the right amount, the romance is just the right amount, and the tension is perfectly drawn out. With these books Mr. Maberry has solidified himself as one of my top 3 writers. I hope that Hollywood will take note - his books would make fantastic movies.

I truly enjoyed the wide variety of Christmas stories and the variety of narrators, they each brought a little something extra to the story that they gave voice. I particularly enjoyed the tales by Washington Irving. If you enjoy a variety of holiday/Christmas customs then this is the book you may want to give a listen to.

Mr Fry is very good so are the stories

These stories are memorable and Mr Fry reads them well. The stories can be a little quirky and are quintessentially British. I love them dearly.

I would highly recommend this audiobook to you. Yes you. It doesn't matter how old you are, if you've read or listened to any of Roald Dahl before, or if this is what you'd normally listen too, it is amazing, fantastic and superb.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Vicar of Nibbleswicke and Other Stories?

My favourite story has to be the Vicar of Nibbleswicke due to the bazaar story and of course the wonderful writing of Dahl and fantastic voice of Stephen Fry.

Have you listened to any of Stephen Frys other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes. I've got a lot of Stephen Fry and love his reading and the man himself to piece's.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. I'd never leave a story in the middle due to how gripping they are. But it's nice to save them too.

Master Mystery Author Captures Spirit of the Holidays

Intriguing stories and inspiring poems by a master author kept me engrossed during the holidays. Points of view for retelling traditional stories in the Bible were imaginatively narrated (Mary's journey with the unborn Jesus, the "naughty" donkey who becomes a "reformed" creature when he meets the baby Jesus, and the story of an elderly Mary patiently taking care of a surprising character from the New Testament. The poems, too, were enriching, challenging, musical, and, at times, poignant. Having bad eyesight I found myself having to squint too much in the reading of the small type, but this was a minor obstacle to enjoying this edition.

I did read it again to simply enjoy it for a well-written story

I am almost afraid to say anything specific about the story since to do so might spoil it for a subsequent reader. I will say that the ending was unexpected to say the least. Such a thing only astonishes once. I did read it again to simply enjoy it for a well-written story.

Oh, and it really is a SHORT STORY, not a novella -- the description suggested there would be more to it.

Queen of Mystery Shows Her Human Side

While the stories in this slim volume were apparently aimed at children rather than adults, I found it to be a very valuable insight into a previously unknown aspect of Agatha Christie's personality. It's rather refreshing and also very interesting. Since the purchase, I have shared it with friends and all have found it worthwhile. The stories are simple, yet fun. The poems are also intriguing, as they show yet another aspect of Agatha Christie's person and talent.

The Queen of Mystery writes poetry!

Ms. Christie's short stories and poems are interesting to me mainly from the perspective of learning more about the character of the author. I have read all but a few of her novels that are unavailable to me in my current country of residence and am reading about her life. Her poems give insight into what she was thinking and feeling at various stages of her life.

Short stories yes, but size doesn't matter !

If you like vampire romances then you should love these three sweet short stories by well loved Authors about Vampires and holidays. One was better than the other two but still they were all very enjoyable.

Don't dismiss this because they're short stories - they are a very entertaining listen.

Worth my credit? Yes, I'm glad I bought it.

Crime Stories contains no Crime stories ? Just FYI

I disliked that the title of the book is a misnomer. It is a collection of satirical look at very disjointed topics. JA Konrath is of course known for his horror stories. I took it for granted I admit. I did enjoy it though as Luke Daniels is a great narrator . And the stories are sometimes entertaining. There were 2 I could really relate to, one on assassin novels , was great. Also the roast of James Bond gadgets. I believe people may want to skip this one if they want a crime novel .

Stinks! Save your money.

Several of the short stories are just horrible. Not one good story in the entire collection. I kept waiting for the non existent good story. Painful to listen to.

Fun for Fans of Konrath

I don't think it works well as a stand alone collection, but fans of Konrath will enjoy this lighthearted insight into his world.
