    Publisher's Summary:
Age of the Dead is the sequel to Rise by Gareth Wood, a journey into the zombie-infested wasteland in search of that rarest of things after the apocalypse: hope. Coming soon from Permuted Press.
In the fall of 2005, after surviving the first year and a half of the end of the world, there is very little left for the remaining people of apocalyptic Canada. Salvage teams gather what supplies remain, survivors are brought in more and more rarely, and a cure is rumoured for the undead plague that has ravaged the world.
    Editorial Reviews:
In Age of the Dead, Gareth Wood's sequel to Rise, narrated with plainspoken purpose and adventurous amusement by Jeff Woodman, its been 18 months since the flesh-eating zombies have risen up and embarked on their rampage, devastating humans and their land with bloody violence.
Young hero Brian Williams and a crew of plucky survivors have managed to avoid the flesh-eating monsters at a safe haven in Western Canada. But food is dwindling and the courageous Brian and his assembled salvage team must go further from safety and closer to the zombies to find the crucial supplies that are the key to their further survival.

what happens after you survive the outbreak
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
most interesting: following salvage team 107 as they venture into different areas.
    least interesting: nada
How did the narrator detract from the book?
monotone voice recounting much of the story
Do you think Age of the Dead needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
yes, the ending, while not a cliffhanger, definitely leaves the story open for a 3rd book
    Any additional comments?
good follow-up to the 1st book. for those of you who may not have listened to the 1st book, the 1st book tells the story of brian, an investment banker, and his sister, sara, a pre-med student as they flee calgary as the dead come back to life. after rescuing some survivors, they eventually make it to coldlake air force base. once there, brian and some of the survivors he saved become one of the military's salvage teams, looking for survivors and supplies. age of the dead picks up about a year and a half after the outbreak.
the surviving canadian military forces have been able to clear the dead from some areas and make some safe areas. for instance, they were able to clear the dead out of the calgary terminal and air field, but the dead constantly threaten to break through their defenses. this adds a nice bit of tension to the time(s) brian and salvage team 107 spend there in both books.
this book is composed of a bunch of quests brian and his team are sent on. through these quests, we learn the state of different areas- the main safe zones, the farms and communities adjacent to them, and the areas in between. life is measured in simple pleasures- warm food, hot showers, and power.
i enjoyed this zombie tale b/c it's unlike most of the others i've listened to. most of the zombie novels i've read always center around the initial outbreak or the characters fleeing for their lives. so, this story was kind of refreshing.
my biggest problem was the monotone tone of the narrator. i guess it's not the narrator's fault, but more of the author's fault. this is a journal style story, and a lot of the story, except the action sequences, is read with a monotone voice.

Length: 12 hrs and 34 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-24-12
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi: Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Thomas Phillips knows he's losing his mind. He's been losing it for as long as he can remember. And yet, when a strange old man asks him to consider that he, out of everyone in the world, knows the real truth, Thomas' life begins to spiral out of control. He loses interest in his job and is fired. He refuses his wife's suggestion of psychiatric care, and she leaves him. In the end, Thomas is alone. Except he's not, because someone seems to be following him.
What if you were Thomas? Where would you go? What would you do? What if you realized every person in your life had been scripted to be there? What if you were haunted by the idea that you'd lived all these encounters before, hundreds or even thousands of times before? And what if the person watching all this time was you?
Thomas World explores what happens when the borders of reality start seeming a bit pores...when things start bleeding through the edges, challenging ones perceptions of the universe. The grand tradition of Dickian, New Wave SF is explored by Richard Cox in this 21st century thriller!
    Editorial Reviews:
Is Thomas Phillips crazy, or is it the rest of the world? In Richard Cox's mind-bending thriller, realities become blurred and lies are exposed as Thomas begins to figure out the truth behind his life. Andy Caploe contributes to the mysterious narrative concocted by Cox, using a searching and inquisitive tone to capture Thomas' sense of confusion as he navigates the strange events of his life and begins to wonder if all of it is fiction. An intriguing mix of The Truman Show and Philip K. Dick, Thomas World is a great addition to New Wave science fiction.

    Unique and Creative Listen
I really loved this. It reminded me of classic Philip K Dick. A very unique and creative storyline and I was totally sucked in. Well narrated.
    Derivative (PK)Dick - malevolent matrix
With an author by the name of Richard Cox, of course a story based on the life and writings of Philip K Dick is to be expected. Thomas World is a tale about an individual who possesses many parallels to the famed sci-fi author Philip K Dick. While the tale begins with a seemingly 30 year old slacker named Thomas losing control of his life and mind, the tale gradually evolves into a series of odd coincidences including both allusion to P K Dick wiritings as well as paranoid, narcissistic delusions with some basis in fact. Central to many Dick stories as well as this one is the question of whether this universe is "real" or an artificial construct of some other intelligence. Inconsistencies with how the world and people operate become the basis for questioning and explaining all the imperfections around us that point to this presumed artificiality.
Thomas gradually arrvies at the conclusion that he exists in an artificial reality centered on himself. Clues to distinguishing "reality" from fantasy are initially subtle and eventually are rendered unnecessary.

Series takes a turn for the better
I will say this book has absolutely out shined the first in the series.
The story bounces back and forth between the two siblings Chelo and Joseph culminating in a long deserved reunion. I really enjoyed Joseph's story and it looks like the third book in the series continues to expand upon the things he discovers about the wider universe they live in.
I will say I disliked Christopher Kipiniak's portrayal of some of the female cast. Luckily since he's reading while Joseph is the POV character these instances are minimized. Lauren Fortgang once again returns with a solid performance.

    Publisher's Summary:
KOP Killer, a darkly dystopian science fiction thriller from Warren Hammond.
Juno Mozambe once had a life. That was when he was a dirty cop, married to a woman who suffered such profound abuse that she murdered her vile, drug kingpin father. Juno loved his wife and did his best to help her survive her guilt, her drug habit, and her desire to end her life on the dead-end planet of Lagarto.
When she died, however, Junos life went downhill. And then his first partner, the corrupt chief of the Koba Office of Police, was murdered. The man responsible, Emil Mota, is using the KOP for his personal gain. Juno has been laying low, but now hes ready to do whatever it takes to take down the bastard.
Rather than working from inside the system, hes decided that the only way to take down the KOP is to create an independent base of power. So he gets involved with a team of dirty cops and starts working as a rent-a-thug for a whorehouse that needs protection.
Junos last partner knows that his risky plan has a purpose, but shes that rarest of creatures on the hothouse planet of Lagarto: an honest cop. She cant help him. When Juno discovers a series of profoundly twisted murders, he faces a bleak possibility: in his desperate quest for vengeance against the man who targeted him for death, Juno may have placed himself beyond any hope of redemption.

Another solid noir entry in the series
This is the third in the series taking place on an impoverished, backwater world. Our anti-hero again finds himself against forces with technology out of his league as rich off-worlders take advantage of the desperate population.
If anything, this is the darkest yet in the series. Some of the events are extremely brutal and our lead character is really hitting rock bottom before a somewhat satisfactory ending and the promise of more stories and a developing story line.

    Publisher's Summary:
The year is 2071. It is very recognizable world, only now the United States has implemented a wide-scale, government-run cloning program that is tied directly to health insurance. Each U.S. citizen has a copy living separately in a cleared zone in the Midwest. If an original is sick or injured and requires surgery, whatever he or she needs is taken from their clone.
In the two decades since the programs inception, no person outside the government has ever seen their copy or been inside the Clearances, and no clone has ever successfully escapeduntil now.
The Bradbury Report is a fascinating meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of as a race and society. It is a powerful work of speculative fiction, beautifully written, about love, identity, free will, aging, and intelligence that will linger with you long after listening.
    Critic Reviews:
Polansky's debut features well-developed characters and strong writing. (Publishers Weekly)
An inventive, cerebral thriller.Polansky does a fine job of wrestling with the moral dilemmas posited by writers like Philip K. Dick.Sublimely witty and soulfully sympathetic. (Kirkus Reviews)

The inspiration for the movie The Island
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book was definitely time well spent. The ethical questions raise by having a clone for spare parts how one would treat such a clone once met, and at a time when spare parts are needed to live, make the an engaging read.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The best description of my reaction to the ending would be conflicted.
What three words best describe Stefan Rudnickis performance?
These word describe nearly all of Stefan Rudnicki's performances: powerful, engaging, hypnotic.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes. As stated above this book is easily the inspiration of the film The Island. While the film has more action that this book they are both well worth experiencing.
    Appalling and disturbing book
    Any additional comments?
The book is very difficult and unsettling - I may say evil almost. There are no explanations, happy endings and no answers to the horrible problem the author creates within the world of his book. The book itself is one big unpleasant question.
In some way the subject may remind of Kazuo Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go": clones, created only to be a spare-parts containers for theirs' "originals", have no rights, they are helpless and have no hope for better future. And a whole system is created to supress even thinking of change. But also these books are very different. The only clone we see in "Report" does not have the air of painful lightness, resignation and devotion of Ishiguro's heroes. He is angry, full of protest and willing to live. He tries to struggle against the system, condemning him to death - even if his ways of doing it are very limited.
The narrator is brilliant. His voice is perfect for the first-person story, told by very old, ill and desperate man. His tragic story stayed with me long after the book was over.
    Weak
The Story and the reader need a shot of espresso, I even tried reading the actual book and it was not good

"[A]n epic chase across a near-future landscape, enlivened by twists, complicated puzzles to solve, plenty of intriguing technology, and a strong element of romance." (School Library Journal)

    Just so-so
If the heroine and hero got kidnapped and then escaped ONE MORE TIME I was going to stop listening! I know it's fiction, but geeez!
I did enjoy the technology described in the story, I found it believable for the era, original and intriguing.
I did not enjoy the narrator so much. I felt she made the heroine's voice too sweet. Make me not like her just because each time she talked it sounded fake, like someone trying to be over feminine.
A good romance. Not science fiction.
I read or listen to science fiction to get inspiration. I love it when a book can present concepts that both challenge me and interest me. When an author can go into some depth with one or more of their concepts and make me believe that it actually might happen some day, then a book is worth my time. This book has none of that. The main emphasis in this book is a womans adventure in falling in love with an android who has been programmed with the mind of a man. None of the concepts, while interesting, were expanded upon to any degree. There simply was no science to this book. There was however, many insights into a womans mind and her emotional states. The main character is a scientist however, she never really applied any scientific principals during this adventure. This book was well written and it deserves its due, but it belongs in the romance section, not the science fiction section.

    Members Reviews:
    Dissapointing
I love the first book, there was NO action in this one. I have enjoyed Scott Brick work on other books, but his performance fell very short when it came to giving believable accents here. Too bad I really wanted this one to be a home run!
    Interesting but Average
A little dark, but good story. Not really blown away, but wanted to see how it ended. A little anti-climatic however...
    Excellent second book
John Twelve Hawks has created an unorthodox and dangerous world with just enough reality to pull the reader deeply into the parallel dimensions of his world.
