Wonderful book from start to finish

I don't usually listen to long books this fast but this book got me hooked from start to finish. This is a great book, lots of actions and educational materials. I will give it a 100 stars if i could. I am a very busy person but I finished this book in two days. I listened to this book in my car, lunch breaks, jogging, while cleaning around the house and doing laundry. I will strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a wonderful book to listen to.

What a terrific mystery; and a Catholic priest as a central character in a thriller may be a first. The ending is a real shocker! Wow.

I enjoy reading a clean fun story that I can escape in for a little while. Mail order brides have intrigued me because of the unknown about what these young woman were walking into and the faith that they had in God to provide a love worth the risk. This was a good book and I enjoyed reading it. The story line left me wanting to read more by this author.

A Bee in Her Bonnet

A BEE IN HER BONNET is the second book in this series. This is Poppy's story. Poppy is the tomboy of the bunch and Luke is a boy she beat up several times when they were in school. When he comes upon Poppy with her fingers stuck in the window of a moving car, he is quick to step to Poppy's rescue with a crowbar, but is Poppy grateful? Oh, no. She's mad.

Poppy does have a broken hand, and Luke wants to be nice and help her out with her chores, so he keeps coming around. But with Poppy's temper and Luke's arrogance, there seems to be no hope. Not only that but the attacks that began in book 1 are still continuing!

I enjoy reading Ms. Beckstrand's books and this is no different. I read them out of order as I didn't get book 2 until the night before the tour started, so I read book 1, book 3, and now box 2. You'll be happy to know you'll lose nothing from the stories if you do read them out of order. Recommended.

Disippointed

In the past I have read novels by Jennifer Beckstrand, and really enjoyed them. I was excited to read this series, but was disippointed by the redundancy of it. I read the first book in this series, "Sweet as Honey". It was ok, but it was irritating at how irrational the protagonist acted. I thought it may be a fluke, and that maybe I would enjoy the next novel in the series "A Bee in Her Bonnet". It was more of the same. Basically both stories goes like this. Girl and boy don't like each other. Boy falls for girl, but girl misconstrues everything the boy says. Girl whines things about "he thinks I'm ugly" and "he thinks I'm stupid" OVER AND OVER AGAIN, even though the situation doesn't warrant it. For example, Luke says he thinks Poppy is pigheaded. Poppy's response is that she thinks he is saying she is ugly like a pig. Seriously, if this wasn't the constant theme, I wouldn't find it as irritating. I highly recommend the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series, but I am disappointed in The Honeybee Sister series.

You'll begin reading and not want to stop...

The Author does an excellent job oc making you identify with the characters. This made me want to read and not stop. While the next part of the series comes out at the end of the month (my birthday is a bit before that time...would have liked to inish it before then!) I'm hoping she'll consider writing another book in this series. Maybe find someone for Aunt B...or fast forward a bit and let us know about the kids and if perhaps Billy Idol will have any progeny.

Very poor narration

I like all of Whitlow's books, and this is such a good story. This was another narration by Heath McClure which makes me think he knows someone to be given the narration. His reading is so affected and sing-song that it makes it annoying to listen to the book. Please, please get someone else to read Whitlow's books. I do not think I will endure another one by him.

If it was read by someone who had a clue about sentence parsing, intonation, pauses at obvious plot-line breaks, I'd absolutely recommend this book.

This is at least the 2nd Robert Whitlow book we have ENDURED with Mr. McClure as the narrator. Hire Adam Verner! He makes Charles Martin's books an absolute pleasure.

This was a good book. Not his best, but, apart for the narrator issues, a good story, backed by decent characters and a flowing storyline, despite many flashbacks. If you're not into hearing atrocities Hitler's thugs inflicted, then skip this one. Some are quite disturbing, even for baby-boomer era listeners.

The struggle was real

I finished it and still don't completely understand the plot. While I appreciate the christian aspect and the lack of vulgar language I would still like to have an attention getting plot that makes you not want to stop listening. It was highly based in the 1940's during the war so the story lines were intertwined. So for this to be billed as a legal thriller is totally off base.

For me there is a lot of filler writing and no sustenance.

I am not sure I will do another listen with this author or narrator.

Whitlow fan

I have enjoyed each book by this author but felt the story was weaker than his other books! I did really enjoy the amount of scriptures quoted plus the gospel presentation! That alone made it a good read ! The moderator was disappointing and distracted from the story!

Very good book almost spoiled...

Whitlow is an excellent author and I have read everything he has in print. This was my first experience with an audio version of one of his novels.

I'm enjoying this book series.

I wish I had the option of using audible on each and every book . In this series there was several books that had the ability to use the audible app for $1.99 and up, but the remaining did not offer this.. I did however downloaded the app offered by audible.com at $14,95 per month, first month was free. Today I d/l the next two books but I had trouble finding them in my library on this device nor on my cloud. And as for the audible app, it doesn't show them at all. And on this particular book and a lesser amount of skips and a notice some what like static. The books 1-8 were nearly perfect.

Now as for this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it! There was enough ties to the last book but not so much that someone could pick it up and read it without being confused. I think the stories are getting a tiny bit monotonous in that their story lines are pretty much the same. However, I have a very hard time forcing myself to stop for the night.

Wow, oh wow. This book was so good. I was so caught up in this book that I became emotionally attached. I was not sure who to believe or who to trust. I loved the way McNeill left bread crumbs for the reader to follow and how she slowly lead the reader through the story. Then, as the as the story slowly revealed itself, the suspense and thrill also increased. It was a roller coaster of a ride and the climax made me gasp. Sister Dear is about family, jealousy, justice, redemption, starting over and moving on. The reader will root for Allie while she searches for answers to prove her innocence. Will she be able to do it and at what cost? As secrets are uncovered lives are changed and long buried secrets both take unexpected turns and shatter everything Allie once believed was true. A great read for book clubs and lovers of suspense. 4.5 stars

Not Worth the Time

The story wasn't all that interesting and was a little all over the place. Is it about life in jail, getting out, a football team? A little bit to much going on in the storyline. I get what the author was trying to do, but I don't think it was accomplished.

I didn't like any of the characters and I don't think that a lot of their reactions were natural. Caroline was upset about her mom being released from ail for murder ( can you even get parole when convicted of murder?! ). The only reason I knew she was embarrassed/upset was because I was told. I didn't really get the feeling from her reactions and conversations with other characters. It wasn't a natural character development.

And Emma was trying to keep her niece with her after her sister gets out of jail. She was being sneaky and manipulative towards the situation. It was a weird reaction because I didn't get the feeling that she was that type of person. Again, I was told what she was doing instead of being shown.

The narrator didn't add anything to the story or characters. She was very plain and boring. Not much emotion and made it even harder to be interested in the story.

I really enjoy the books by this author. I just wish they were a little longer, maybe if Clint's brothers or Bess' ex boyfriend had showed up to cause some trouble it would have been longer and a bit juicier.

Just discovered Lis Weil

I just discovered Lis Weil. I love her book and intend to read or listen to all of them.

Strains credulity

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. The characters were all angel or demons, no one in between. And the story was interesting at first but kept getting more and more implausible.

Won't buy any more of Lis Whiel's books

I am so disappointed in The Newsmakers series! Lis Whiel's previous books did not have any foul language or sensual scenes. This first book was full of curse words and sexual innuendos. I've already purchased the second book in the series in Audiobooks, but am wary of listening to it if it's like this first one. I'm also disappointed in Thomas Nelson, a Christian publisher, for publishing a book of this nature.
