    Fantastic
Amanda M. Lee is such a magnificent author and she does not disappoint with Grim Offerings. Characters are well deleveloped and we are taken further into their lives as the plot thickens and the story continues. Karen Krause does an excellent job at narrating Grim Offerings. I truly enjoyed listening as much as I did reading.
    Gets better and better
Although I felt Aisling made ridiculous decisions, I have to admit this series get better and better. I can't wait to see how the story developed in the next book.
    Great series
This is the second in what I hope is a very long series. The characters are quirky & unique, but also have depth along with all the hilarity. I can't wait for #3 to come out in audio & Karen Krause is on point with the dry wit & sarcasm.
    A.Grimlock needs help
The story was great, but the main female character needs to chill out. Her impulsive nature gets old very quickly, but with that said when all the characters are combined this book is quite interesting
    Laughed out loud. Loved it!!!!!!
This series just gets better and better. Loved it! The story was very entertaining and the characters are wonderful.

just when I started to really get into the story, it was over. I enjoyed what I heard and the narration. I just don't like things that end abruptly being used to Nora Roberts longer. alas this is a trilogy and I'm looking forward to the next book..

Luke flung the light of his torch full onto the face of the immobile figure. Then he had the shock of his life. The man had no face! Where his face should have been was a sort of inhuman, uniform blank!
When a body is found at an isolated garage, Inspector Meredith is drawn into a complex investigation where every clue leads to another puzzle: was this a suicide or something more sinister? Why was the dead man planning to flee the country? And how is this connected to the shady business dealings of the garage?
This classic mystery tale is set amidst the stunning scenery of a small village in the Lake District.

More of a Police Procedural than a Mystery
It was pretty good, but don't expect any kind of mystery. It's a procedural that walks you through discoveries, not deductions.
    A Cozy for Guys!
If any guys like to read cozies - for some reason I think of that genre as appealing more to women. It's a long rambling story with lots of detail and a glimpse of the fuel and trucking business and so forth back in the thirties. Much of the book is an account of Inspector Meredith's reasoning about the situation.
Gordon Griffin has a great voice, rather soothing, which is one reason I recommend this book as a good one to put you to sleep at night.
    Pay attention !
John Bude is my kind of author. Just try lolling off when you are listening; you will end up having to "rewind" because the details are not just window-dressing.
    I also appreciate the narrator.
    Thanks Audible !
    Couldn't finish
Got about 1/3 through this book and I just couldn't finish. The story was so dull, and I just didn't care who did it.
    I like details, but ...
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Develop real characters. Include a whole lot less tedium.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Something by Terry Pratchett to lighten up. Or maybe back to Amelia Peabody for the jillionth time ...
Which character as performed by Gordon Griffin was your favorite?
He did a decent enough job with all the voices, just not a lot to work with. His voice is pleasant enough.
Was The Lake District Murder worth the listening time?
I did listen to it all, but I used it a lot at bedtime to fall right asleep.
    Any additional comments?
I love the classic British mystery writers and have no objection to police procedurals, but this was exceedingly plodding and had no real characters. Yawn ... I had hopes of a new discovery with John Bude but was sadly disappointed.

A seemingly mundane computer cleanup leads to an electrifying quest for an enigmatic - and deadly - treasure in this gripping techno-thriller.
After selling his dorm-room startup for millions and effectively retiring at the age of 25, Alex Fife is eager for a new challenge. When he agrees to clean up an old PC as a favor, he never expects to find the adventure of a lifetime waiting for him inside the machine. But as he rummages through old emails, Alex stumbles upon a startling discovery: The previous owner, a shady antiques smuggler, had been trying to unload a mysterious object known as the Florentine on the black market. And with the dealer's untimely passing, the Florentine is now unaccounted for and ripe for the taking. Alex dives headfirst into a hunt for the priceless object. What starts out as a seemingly innocuous pursuit quickly devolves into a nightmare when Alex discovers the true technological nature of the Florentine. Not just a lost treasure, it's something far more insidious: a weapon that could bring the developed world to its knees. Alex races through subterranean grottos, freezing morgues, and hidden cellars in the dark underbelly of Los Angeles, desperate to find the Florentine before it falls into the wrong hands. Because if nefarious forces find it first, there'll be nothing Alex - or anyone else - can do to prevent a catastrophic attack.
    Members Reviews:
Feels like non-fiction, which is terrifying.
Alex Fife is a multi-millionaire former computer virus buster. He's also a fan of a good treasure hunt. The Florentine Deception is the perfect combination of both of these worlds. Mixing in old school treasure hunting with new school computer technology, The Florentine Deception weaves in and out of some amazing (and terrifying) worlds that feel more like non-fiction than fiction.
The narration was done by Nick Podehl, and holy crap does he kill it. I honestly think I've listened to a book or two narrated by him before, but I will definitely be checking him out in the future. The characters were 100% believable and the voices he gave them were very fitting for each character. Even the female voices were pretty good, which isn't easy to accomplish as a male narrator.
I consumed this book like it was real. Alex Fife and the situations that he gets himself in were just crazy. But the scariest part was that everything that Nachenberg wrote is totally plausible. That's what makes The Florentine Deception so scary.
Alex was so incredibly likable as a character. The way he was written made me really like him and all of his interactions with the other characters in the book. His roommates and friends were all the perfect additions to his life. Not one single person felt out of place in this novel. A feat in itself.
The techno/computer things in this were written by someone with A LOT of knowledge, but they are easy to read. They don't read like a computer manual or anything. It's actually borderline elegant.
I won't spoil anything for you, but I was extremely pleased with the ending. A few times throughout I wasn't sure how it was going to end, but I was happy with the choice that Nachenberg went with.
Overall, a wonderful technothriller that was full of twists and turns that had me begging for more.

    Oh no! I need more!
Please write more. NEED NEED to know what is still to happen to these characters who have become like family. We need a wedding between Cass and Danny. And maybe more babies for Izzy and Sam. Don't stop now!
    A little disappointed
I'm a big fan of Sea Harbor mysteries, but the reader was disappointing. Character voices did not ring true, tone was a little vocal-fried.
    Quite disappointing
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No - I would not. A very flimsy story with quite dull characters
What was most disappointing about Sally Goldenbaums story?
The fact I knew whodunit after about 30 minutes
What does Julie McKay bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
Probably makes the characters less cardboard cutout
If this book were a film would you go see it?

    Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton

    Publisher's Summary:
A decade after Nocturnes first terrified and delighted readers, John Connolly, best-selling author of 13 acclaimed thrillers featuring private investigator Charlie Parker, gives us a second volume of tales of the supernatural. From stories of the monstrous for dark winter nights to fables of fantastic libraries and haunted books, from a tender account of love after death to a frank, personal and revealing account of the author's affection for myths of ghosts and demons, this is a collection that will surprise, delight, and terrify. Night Music also contains two novellas: the multiaward-winning The Caxton Private Lending Library & Book Depository and The Fractured Atlas, featuring The Wanderer in Unknown Realms, previously published as an ebook, developed here into a five-part novella. Night Music: Nocturnes 2 is a masterly collection to be listened to with the lights on. Menace has never been so seductive.
    Members Reviews:
    Inconsistent
Some real gems, but I do not think the decision to use different voice actors for different stories is all that successful - save for chapter 4 where it works really well. In chapter 13 Jeff Harding draws you right into the story in his customary way. A shame about the narration for the Fractured Atlas sections, because I really liked story - the performances, not so much. If you've read all of the Charlie Parker novels it's worth a read on a dark winters night and your at a loose end.
    Unsure
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Unsure yet. May need another listen. Found my mind turning off. The first one really held me hooked.
Has Night Music: Nocturnes 2 put you off other books in this genre?
    No
What didnt you like about the narratorss performance?
    Not keen on some
If this book were a film would you go see it?
    No
    Laborious
Needlessly long winded, over detailed, tedious writing,,poor endings and no twists to the stories.I expected better from Mr Connolly.
the odd dodgy voice. But excellent stories.
one or two of the voices in some stories were obviously a reach for some narrators but apart from that a five star listen
    Disappointing
Long and too much like a history and religion tutorial. Jeff Harding was good as always though.

    love this series
Where does Opening Night rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
All of is series are great. It ranks in the top 10.
What did you like best about this story?
    The characters are richly described.
What does James Saxon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I am an auditory learner so these are wonderful.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
    No
    Any additional comments?
    Please continue this series.
    Theatre With a Twist
    Any additional comments?
    Not my favourite Roderick Alleyn.
I thought the story had some interesting moments, but not enough for me to want to listen to it again, or recommend it to others - I thought Marsh would have given Mike Lamprey, from Surfeit of Lamprey's, more footage and let him be the romantic interest for 'the' girl in the end.
I wanted to pre-view this title before handing to my young teen - glad I did; other parents may want to know of these potential content issues too: adultery between the lead actors, a marital rape scene is alluded to euphemistically, suicide.
Now for my teeny gripe about Saxon - just a small one since he is an excellent narrator - he always uses WAY to much affectation for 'gay' characters in Marsh's stories.
    Intensely written, performed and enjoyed
You don't have to know all about theater to enjoy the wonderful recreation of backstage and onstage life created here by mystery master Ngaio Marsh, who was also immersed in theater herself. This little troupe finds itself in a crisis. We are drawn in wondering first who will be killed (because someone always is) and then who did it? Plenty of motives and clues, as usual, brilliant and unbelievably speedy detection by Alleyne, but we still don't know who did it until the very end. How nice is that!
    Characters trump plot
Would you consider the audio edition of Opening Night to be better than the print version?
I read the book years ago and remember really enjoying it for the characters and the theater setting. Listening to it again years later, I see why I enjoyed it. While dated by time, the characters are interesting (except for the purposely annoying ones) and the insider's view of the theater is interesting.

    Blissfully Surprised
What did you love best about The Blissfully Dead?
I thought the overall story line was going to be boring and too teenage like, but I was delightfully surprised. I liked and was intrigued by all the twists & turns.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked Carmella's character. She was a strong woman who added a great deal of character to the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I couldn't stop listening to this book!!!
    Great Mystery, Great Police Procedural!
Don't hesitate to grab this one when you can -- it is a very good mystery which gives way to a very good account of police procedures. As others have noted, the violence is horrifying, but sadly, it is real world, part of the world we live in. While it is a book for mystery lovers first and foremost, it is also a story about on-line danger, on-line bullying and mental illness. That made it an even better listen. The narration was very good and I simply enjoyed it throughout.
Thank you Mark, Louise and Simon!
nice read, compelling. fantastic voice performance really polished a 5 karat story into 10! thanks
    thoroughly enjoy these police procedurals
Perfect author combo as u get clever mysteries with engaging stories, and I dare u to guess "who done it".
    Wonderful suspense/psychological thriller!
First, the narrator: This may be the first audiobook British actor has narrated. Darn, he is incredibly good!
The Blissfully Dead is the second Detective Inspector Patrick Lennon novel that British authors Mark Edwards and Louis Voss have co-written. The first was From the Cradle which I reviewed earlier. The Blissfully Dead is about teen girls who go crazy on social media about a a popular boy band. The girls' disagreements and one-upmanship with each other lead to a series of murders with severe torture.
This is a great suspense and psychological thriller.
