    Narrator: January LaVoy
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 14 hrs and 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-08-15

    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
In Obsession Falls, New York Times best-selling author Christina Dodd returns to the town of Virtue Falls, Washington - an idyllic place on the surface, but one that holds close its secrets.
When Taylor Summers witnesses the death threat to a young boy, she does the only thing she can do - she sacrifices herself to distract the killers. Her reward is a life in ruins, on the run in the wilderness, barely surviving a bitter winter and the even more bitter knowledge she has lost everything: her career, her reputation, her identity. She finds refuge in Virtue Falls, and there comes face to face with the knowledge that, to live her life again, she must enlist the help of the man who does not trust her to defeat the man who would destroy her.
She's being hunted, but it's time to turn the tables....
    Members Reviews:
    High suspense and romance
Taylor Summers lived a normal life, in a normal place, doing normal things. Then she went to her childhood stomping grounds, meandered up into the surrounding mountains, and saw a very not-normal kidnapping on the verge of becoming a murder. A murder of a child. She had to stop it!
She did, but life as Taylor Summers ended that day. Nothing was normal again. Not the months of scrabbling and stealing to preserve her life in the wilderness, not the work she could find to do, not the place she had to live. The threat of discovery and death hovered, and the source of the greatest danger was not clear. Was it the billionaire uncle of the boy she saved from death? The charming vintner? Or the famous football player turned assassin? And in the midst of chaos, could her heart find safe harbor?
Obsession Falls is the second book in Christina Dodds newest suspense series; Virtue Falls was the first. As a long-time reader of Dodds work, I find these books a departure for her. They are more complex, with the romance often taking a backseat to the suspense. That is particularly true of Obsession Falls. Perhaps this venture into deeper entanglements led to the flaws I found in the story, which were not deal-breakers but distracting. For me, the storyline became muddy a few times, especially when she was in the wilderness. The scattered scenes illuminating brief episodes over those months were sometimes hard to connect to the main story. I wondered if shed written this section much longer, then had to go back and cut out a lot of it. Overall, it felt like it wanted to be a longer book, with some of the action feeling disjointed. It is definitely Taylors story, with the romantic interest not even appearing until well into the book. The romantic aspect was likewise muddy, for me. If theres a Happily Ever After (HEA) in the offing, I want it to be clear and strong, at least by the ending. This was less clear. And speaking of the ending, it was definitely a setup for a sequel and felt crafted specifically to do that rather than to further the story told in Obsession Falls.
But, criticism notwithstanding, I enjoyed the book and have it in my Audible library. I will listen to it again, along with Virtue Falls, which I also like. Taylor Summers is an engaging heroine, likeable and real. The secondary characters are likewise well-drawn, and I was able to submerge myself into the story with little effort. Overall the storyline is strong, the action riveting, and the danger menacing.

    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 40 votes

    Publisher's Summary:
Rosie Maldonne is outspoken and sexy. She's also unemployed, and, with three children and a cat, life is a little tough. The four of them - well, five, if you count the cat - live in the South of France, in a run-down trailer near a vacant lot. They make do, living off her part-time waitressing job and a little help from the state.
Rosie thinks things are finally turning around when she meets handsome police officer Jérôme - until she realizes that his appearance coincides with her friend Véro's disappearance. Then, something even stranger happens: Rosie finds a package with a crazy amount of money in the trash can of a fast-food joint. With so much going on, Rosie has some big questions: Where is Véro? Is Jérôme too good to be true? Who put all that cash in the trash? And what happens when they want it back?

Rose Is A Different Type of Character
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I'd give this book a solid C, it wasn't great nor was it horrible. I don't regret the time it took to listen to it, but I do not believe I will carry on with the series if another book is published.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I'm not exactly sure of the book's audience. Is it for adults? teens? I checked the audible path and it wasn't listed under teens or young adults, so I'm going to assume it was for adults. The dialogue in the book frequently became childish (and i'm not referring to when the children are speaking). Maybe something was lost in translation.
Which character as performed by Carly Robins was your favorite?
I guess my favorite character would be the main character Rose aka Cre-Cre. The narrator did a fabulous job! The character Rose is the personification of the phrase "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." She's definitely a force that you cannot ignore.
Was Queen of the Trailer Park worth the listening time?
It was a fun listen! I can suspend realities for books, but these many of these scenarios were so unrealistic that I couldn't help but roll my eyes sometimes.
    Fun Story
Cute story. Hard to place in US terms. Did not see endng coming . Buy if on sale.
Weird and left me shaking my head
Not sure if it was the narrator or the story, but it was weird. wasnt believable and i strygglednto finish. ifnit werent the book club selection, i wouldnt have finished it
Narrator was fine, story was a little lagging
It was hard to keep my interest with the storyline. Hard to stay engaged with the story, although it got better toward the end.
What the heck is the plotline????
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
If you like hormonal, batsh*t crazy characters, you'll love this book. If you like books where the characters make actual sense, the plotline makes sense, and there is a flow of storyline...DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!
What do you think your next listen will be?
Anything not written by Alice Quinn
    Which scene was your favorite?
The part where it says "This is Audible..."
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    The narrator is good.
    Any additional comments?
This book should be free. It's not worth 1.99 I paid when I got the kindle version of the book.

    A bit predictable
Not the best written thriller I've read, and I guessed the highly predictable outcome from about a third of the way through. Seemed to drag a little bit unnecessarily at times. I was hoping for another Gone Girl type story but it was lacking in depth and originality. Read the Robert Galbraith stories if you want an intriguing storyline that keeps you guessing until the end. Sadly this one doesn't.

    Members Reviews:
    Predictable and maddening
I'm so disappointed in this book. I enjoyed Before I Go to Sleep, but this book is sort of the same except that the main character, instead of making stupid decisions because she's brain-damaged, makes stupid decisions because she's stupid. She doesn't do a single thing right no matter how many chances she gets, and she seems not understand very basic things about cell phones and social media even though she's only in her 30's. It really surprised me. I read an interview with Val McDermid in which she said that SJ Watson was a fresh new voice, but nothing about this book was fresh or new.
If you're new to crime fiction, you might enjoy this book because you won't have heard it all before. But if you've been reading books like this for a while now, don't bother. You'll feel like an idiot if you stick around waiting for the plot to twist.
    Terrible :(
Found the main character infuriating. Her bad decision after bad decision were so frustrating to listen to. Would not recommend.
    Don't do it
I'm going to keep this short the book was awful, the performance was even worse! I got a refund on the book that's how bad it was!!
I agree with all the other negative reviews
Would you try another book from S. J. Watson and/or Susan Lyons?
Not if the main character is as dimwitted as this one! She was so irritating- it made the story completely unbelievable.
Would you ever listen to anything by S. J. Watson again?
    Probably not.
What aspect of Susan Lyonss performance would you have changed?
I enjoyed Susan Lyons narration of Me Before You. I don't think anything could have helped this story.
What character would you cut from Second Life?
    The main one!
    Lurid, unconvincing & overwritten.
Julia, the central character is a tiresome self dramatising hysteric. I wound up disliking her more than the villian of the book.

    What a Disappointment
The first in this series led me to believe that they would get better. The 2nd was ok. This one was so far-fetched the reader must suspend all reason. Will return this.
Literally on the edge of my seat awaiting the next book in the series!
J.T. Ellison has crafted not one, but two series of novels with two amazingly talented, brave, smart and mega-tough women who make things happen no matter the risks! Both the Taylor Jackson series, and now the Dr. Samantha Owens novels leave me on the edge of my seat waiting for what will happen next! Don't miss out on finding out more about both of these tough, beautiful and endlessly resourceful women as they do whatever is necessary to stop the evil and bring down the "bad guys!" JT Ellison is the real deal! Keep 'me coming girl!
Another Strong Entry in the Samantha Owens Series
This series is good because of the strong cast of characters, including Dr. Owens herself.
The series is set sometimes in Tennessee and sometimes, like this one, in Washington DC.
The men are all really macho and Sam is both beautiful and brilliant, as you would expect in this series. But the plot is good and the violence isn't particularly graphic.
    Great Story line
Would you consider the audio edition of What Lies Behind to be better than the print version?
Just enjoy listening instead of reading, because I can do other things at the same time.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters and on going plot, hopefully she keeps adding to this series.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Of course the end when justice is obtained.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, if I had the time.
Best of the 4 novels in the Samantha Owens series
Dr. Samantha Owens continues to live and work in Washington DC after moving there earlier in this series. What Lies Behind is a superb suspense thriller and having listened to all 4 books, it is the best of the series. The publisher's summary should be read before purchasing this book. With only one exception I have found all of JT Ellison's novels very worthwhile. Narration by Joyce Bean is rock solid.

    Critic Reviews:
"Shemilt injects a great deal of suspense into her narrative in both time frames even as her fluid prose eloquently captures a mother's grief and painful journey to self-awareness." (

    BORING...
The book had too many slow parts, it didn't make sense at times and overall was just not interesting.
    It's was ok
The book was good but very long for to me a disappointing ending and left it on the hinge which I don't like I like closure
    Never saw it coming
Beautiful - sad - surprising turns. Families are complicated- the mother/daughter relationship the most of all. Kept me listening!! Going to try another book from this author if out there.
    I expected better.
This book would have been so much better with more than one narrator. Only the mother's voice gets a little tiresome. Also it was ver predictable for the most part and then it went off on tangents. Not the best writing. I think this author is trying to copy Liane Moriart's style and wasn't successful in doing so.
I gave up on this one...
I rarely ever give up on a book once Im at least half way into it.
This one just lost me. It seemed to move very slowly and I just completely lost interest. I decided to read other reviews and when I read over and over how readers were frustrated and disappointed with the ending; I gave up and moved on to a new book.

Cooper and Lee come together well again!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Certainly for the performance of John Lee alone! This is a wonderful performance by a master at the top of his game, reading an interesting and well researched book by Cooper. I think anyone that would enjoy a biblical/history/thriller book would be well served by this one.
Who was your favorite character and why?
All the biblical characters were very well defined and voiced. Hard to pull them all apart.
What about John Lees performance did you like?
Everything. He owned this story! One of the very best performers in the business, at the top of his game with accents, nuance and consistency . Well done!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    I sure tried!
    Any additional comments?
This one snuck up on me, and it will you as well. It is well researched, with a fascinating contention, and rich in detail and plot. Some good bad guys, and some plot twists keep the listener engaged right to the finish.
    Highly recommended!
    Who Came Back
This was a very clever book. If you like alternate possibilities for the foundation of Christianity, with a little physics thrown in, this book might be for you. I liked the characters. Twists with good guys versus bad guys in the end were a little predictable, but it didn't change the book's enjoyment. John Lee did a good job with all the accents.
    Nothing less than riveting!
If you are looking for a book that will hold you in its spell until the very last word, The Resurrection Maker is it. It's an exceptional read (but not like great literature) that completely surprised me - in a good way). I've read two other Glenn Cooper novels, but this one is a stand-out. It's part Dan Brown mystery (apologies for the comparison as the writing is far superior to Mr. Brown's), part Dark Matter material, part string theory, part travelogue . . . I could go on and on. You have to be 'in the mood' for this type of action story, but if you are, it's well worth the time to listen. As for one reviewer's criticism of the ending, I rather agree. I wanted more closure, but it left me wondering, "What if?" and isn't that part of the magic of storytelling?
The masterful John Lee NEVER disappoints as a performer. I could listen to his voice for a lifetime. His ability to create so many accents and bring myriad characters to life is beyond brilliant.
I'm not sure into what genre this book falls, but whichever it is, that matters less than the sheer enjoyment and edge-of-your-seat emotions that is evokes. Well worth the time and credit spent for it.
    great read!
I loved it. I've become addicted to Glenn's work. this is the second one I've read and I have no plans to stop any time soon
    Bad ending
    Come on.

This was not worth the wait for Bishop & his team
What disappointed you about A Deadly Web?
There was no ending but a lot of questions
Has A Deadly Web turned you off from other books in this genre?
Just when I was getting into the story line, it ended without a end. I am happy it was cheap because there has to be another door that may pick up in the middle where this one drop off. I will not be buying it because that leads to another.
Did Joyce Bean do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, she did a very good job.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    The characters blend well together.
    Any additional comments?
I have been waiting so long for the return of Bishop and his team. This story was a waste of him and his wife. This book must be one that you had to solve yourself.
    Incomplete
I sure hope there is a book three soon, there could have been another 4-5 chapters to help tie up the loose ends.
    Disappointed
I have read all of the Bishop books and loved every one.
In the new Bishop series, The Prophet was great. I thought it was going to be a young woman as she grew into all of her powers and to master them.
learned The second book in the series went in another direction, I was a bit disappointed, but all her Bishop books are good; so I started reading. It was simply awful. bland, colorless and boring? l
    Very Disappointing
Absolutely no plot. Very hard to follow what was going on - and definitely NOT one of Hopper's best. If it was my only Hooper it would be my last.
    New Series Book Two
Where does A Deadly Web rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
I listen to a great number of audiobooks and I am a fan of Kay Hooper's novels. This novel is not at the top of my list.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
At least one of the major storylines should have reached a conclusion. The only minor storyline which concluded favorably related to the foster child.
Which character as performed by Joyce Bean was your favorite?
Joyce Bean's performance was excellent. The personalities of the individual characters were easy to comprehend and helped to pull the listener into the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    No.
    Any additional comments?
Since this book was not a standalone novel, it seems that it should have ended with a "to be continued" comment. I hope that there will be a book three and that the storyline will continue.

At first Deirdre assumes her father's death was a tragic accident. But the longer she stays in town, the more she suspects it is merely the third act in a story that has long been in the making.
The sudden resurfacing of Deirdre's childhood best friend, Joelen Nichol - daughter of the legendary star Elenor "Bunny" Nichol - seems like more than a coincidence. Back in 1958, Joelen confessed to killing her movie-star mother's boyfriend. Deirdre happened to be at the Nichols' house the night of the murder - which was also the night she suffered a personal tragedy of her own. Could all of these events be connected?

This was a gripping and suspenseful tale. I got totally sucked into the story, and I was left guessing until (almost) the very end. I look forward to reading (or listening) to more of Hallie Ephron's books. And Ann Marie Lee was really a great narrator.
